पाण्डुनुत्कटुकस्तिक्तस्तुवरो मधुरोऽग्निदः ||२१|| (Guduchyadi varga)

HABITAT: It is found mostly in dried parts. It is easily available in upper Gangetic plains, Uttar
Pradesh, Bihar and Orissa etc. it is also easily available in coastal areas of southern India and dry
regions of western coast. It is also found in banks of Ganges and Bengal.

BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION: A large shrub or small tree reaching upto 9 m in height, with
more or less pubescent branches, found in dry parts throughout the country. Drug pieces 7-15 cm
long, 0.2 -3.0 cm thick, occasionally branched, cylindrical, tough, yellowish-brown externally,
bark thin, occasionally easily peeled, outer surface rough due to exfoliation, wood light yellow,
fracture hard; taste, slightly astringent.
FRUITING AND FLOWERING TIME: April to June.

Therapeutic uses-
 Skin diseases- Pulp of root are given orally to treat urticaria and other skin disorder.
 Dysuria- Decoction of root is used in painful micturition.
 Inflammotory condition- Decoction prepared of bark helps control the inflammatory
conditions.
 Obesity- Shilajatu is given with leaf swaras.
 Neuralgia- Decoction prepared from roots is useful in the management of neuralgia.
