Thevasam (with Homam )

 'Thevasam' is nothing but 'Sirardham' or ' Annual memorial ritual' performed for the deceased. 
 
According to the scriptures, a Thevasam is to be performed with Homam. This pacifies the deceased
 in 3 ways. Firstly, through the 'Agni Swaroopam' (Homam). Secondly, through the 'Brahmana 
 Bhojanam' (Feeding the Priests) and thirdly, through 'Pinda Pradhanam' (offering pindams or cooked 
rice).
 
 Thevasam can be performed at the Temple with or without homam. 
 When the priest goes to the homes of the deceased, offerings of raw rice, raw banana with pulses, 
 jaggery and 'Dakshinai' (cash) are offered to the priests instead of Bhojanam. 
 Arrangements can be made in the Temple for those who wish to feed the devotees (Anna Dhanam) 
 at the Temple on the day of Thevasam.
