Not Budging or Fudging on Budgets

We are all aware that our nation could be extremely close to financial collapse. We have forgotten the warnings of President George Washington, To contract new debts is not the way to pay for old ones. Another founding father, James Madison, said: I go on the principle that a public debt is a public curse. Though Thomas Jefferson did not claim to be a Christian, he echoed the teaching of the Bible in saying, Neither the representatives of a nation, nor the whole nation itself assembled, can validly engage debts beyond what they may pay in their own time. Of course, God said it long before them: The wicked borrows and does not repay (Psalm 37:21). We know about pork-barrel spending, special interest groups, corrupt executives, government-induced dependency through federal programs, deficit spending, and bailouts and stimulus bills. We have become one nation under greed rather than under God. Unemployment, mortgage foreclosures, excessive borrowing from Communist governments, and social engineering have brought us to the brink. There was the $700 billion of TARP, then the $787 billion stimulus bill, then the $410 billion omnibus spending bill (with 9,000 earmarks), then $634 billion which would be required for a down payment for universal health care as promoted by the administration, and on and on. People once believed that the love of money is the root of all evil (1 Timothy 6:10), but now people agree with George Bernard Shaw that The lack of money is the root of all evil. I could say a great deal more about our national situation, however, our church is voting this weekend on the 2011 - 2012 General Operating Budget, which remains static at the last two years level of spending. We have broken even in the midst of a deep recession; I thank God for His goodness and for your generosity. Our staff has held down expenditures for several years in unprecedented ways. When staff have left, we have often not replaced them unless it was absolutely necessary. We have combined ministry positions as much as possible for a long period of time. We have conserved energy and costs in an unprecedented manner. We continue to steadily whittle down our overall capital debt of the Phase 2 building complex to $9,665,470. We are committed to not spend beyond our receipts over any period of time and to carefully track giving patterns. We have always been and will continue to be honest and open about needs. We want greater involvement in missions and growth in our ministries. Pray that we will receive the weekly resources for ongoing cash flow, and that debts will be quickly paid. Fiscal discipline must begin in our families. As Randy Alcorn in his excellent book, The Treasure Principle, wrote: It is a matter of basic physics. The greater the mass, the greater the core that mass exerts. The more things we own the greater their total mass, the more they grip us, setting us in orbit around them. Giving helps us escape the gravity of possessions, entering a new orbit around our treasures in Heaven. Blast off!

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

In the Missions Kiosk this Weekend

Good News Club is a weekly after school program that is a fun and exciting way for school children to gather to learn about God. This past year our church had five teams that met at Pelican Marsh, Osceola, Lake Park, Big Cypress and Sabal Palm Elementary. Presenting Bible stories, teaching Bible Memory verses, singing songs, reading missionary stories, playing Bible review games, praying, and sharing snacks are just some of the ways our dedicated volunteers share Gods love with the children each week. Through these lessons, the children will learn Biblical principles, moral values, character qualities, and respect for authority. Central to the Club is the sharing of the Good News of Jesus Christ. Many Bibles have been given out and children have prayed to receive Jesus as their Savior. As a result of receiving an invitation at GNC, they and their families have begun to attend our church. We look forward to inviting children from GNC to our VBS and other childrens ministries that take place on our campus.

Good News Clubs

Specific prayer requests for the clubs would be:

volunteers to share Gods love with the children extra teams to go into new schools for salvation for the children and their families children to grow in the knowledge of the Word for the children to invite their friends at school to the club

Kidz Summer Quest

We had a bamboo adventure this past week at KSQ as we learned that God is wild about us. There were over 430 children in 1st-4th grade that attended with more than 150 volunteers helping them discover how much God loves them. We had the opportunity to pray with 54 children who decided to follow Jesus with their lives and got to share the salvation message with many more. Our mission project was to raise money to cover half of the expense of new playground equipment for the children at the Malnutrition Center in Guatemala. Due to the generosity of our children and volunteers, we actually raised over $6,000.00 which completely covered the cost for the playground. A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to all of the volunteers who gave of their time for children in Collier County to know Jesus. Words cannot say enough to show our appreciation for your hearts of service to our Lord. The Childrens Ministry Department

Immokalee Backyard Bible Clubs

We are hosting various Backyard Bible Clubs in Immokalee near the end of July. We need to collect backpacks and other school supplies to take with us and give to these needy children. Beginning next weekend, there will be bins in the Fellowship Hallway and the Commons for you to put your donated items in. Please help us give to the most poverished county in the state, and shine the light of Jesus into these precious souls! Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Mark 10:14
