ENGLISH LITERATURE C 2O2O

THEORY OF ITERATURE

How to bridge the theory of literature course with a lack of interest in reading? I will answer it
by reading a lot of books/stories/novels. But the question is how to bridge the course when
you are lazy to read yourself. I outsmart it by reading stories that I like, such as stories that
are not too complex, less conflict. Usually it will bring back my interest in reading again.

Usually when I have a reading slump (not in a good mood to read a book) or the desire to
read is low. Like a few months ago in 2022 I experienced a reading slump after reading
“petrichor”, one of the stories that impressed me in terms of writing, character development
and conflict, which I think is quite refreshing and the narration used is very very good and I
think the story deserves published because I think the story is the same as the stories on
Wattpad in general. And after reading the story, I had no interest in reading any more stories
for 2 months.

Until finally I regained my mood to read and this time the title is “Connected” I can say
“connected” is the most memorable story and is on the list of number one stories that must
be re-read.

Why is that? Let me explain

Connected, which tells the story of a woman (Mba Na) who was cheated on by her fiancé
(Fian) when their marriage process had reached 70% and that's where it all started when
Mba Na and Pak Algis met which accidentally led to their next meeting.

Until Mba Na discovers Algis's secret which makes her very shocked and speechless. From
then on their relationship was getting stronger and made them drift apart and away from
each other. Because the secret that Algis has been hiding all this time is related to the past
that had made Mba Na slump. Imagine his surprise to find that the person who ruined the
future plans he had designed in such a way was actually related by blood to the man who
healed him from his past wounds.

Mba Na thought that Algis was the medicine for all the wounds that Fian had inflicted on her
but it turned out that Algis was the same as her, kept many wounds and made him equally
sick.

What makes this story interesting is that in each chapter there must be a scene where Algis
and Mba Na argue and debate and the way they solve the problems they experience made
me change some views and perspectives on people and change life.

How they teach the true meaning of affection, their gazes are full of love. This story is very
inspiring and opens horizons of thinking because it is interspersed with social problems that
are related to everyday life.

This story ends with Algis and Mba Na who are no longer young, they already have beautiful
and handsome children and their intelligence comes down to them.
In this final chapter, there are a lot of moral messages that we can take and give a very deep
and traumatic impression for me. This story can be said to have a happy ending. Although in
the end Algis and Mba Na's children had to feel the loss of their parents.

The sincerity of their love brought tears to my eyes.

From the stories that I have read, I can find that this story contains psychoanalytic theory
that can influence the reader in understanding and changing one's perspective in life and I
realized after reading this story my mind is more open. For example, there is one character
in this story that is very relevant to my life. Her name is Adelia, she always feels insecure.
When she is around people who have more power than her, she is always a shadow in other
people's stories, even in her own story. Even though she also worked as hard as them.

But after moving away from people who make her insecure she can respect herself.

So, in conclusion, reading is not bad, very bad as long as we read according to our
interests, such as the genre we like, the author or anything that can raise our reading mood
again.
