Instrumentation Batch-25

The Valedictory function for Batch-25 of the CII-FM AA Control Instrumentation Course was held on
August 31, 2018, for the 30 participants of the course.

Priya Pujari, who is working with us in Bizdev, did the anchoring and welcomed the audience, after which
C’Shekhar Dhamankar addressed the audience to give them a brief insight into the students’ journey.

Dhamankar said that this batch had 19 girls and 11 boys, all of whom had grown a great deal over the
past few months. He also congratulated Divyaksh Bhujade, who was the first one from this batch to
secure a job and he has been selected in Sales and Marketing for our Nagpur office.

He spoke about the various additional sessions that the students were exposed to, such as Automation
workshop by Cubix Automation, an introduction to Auto-Cad Awareness and Engineering Software,
Supply Chain Management, Finance for Non-finance, Interview Techniques and Skills, Effective
Communication, Way to Success, Career Opportunities for instrumentation engineer etc. He especially
applauded Bhalchandra Puranik of ‘Focuss Training & Dev’, who not only conducted the full day
workshop on ‘The Secret of Happiness at Work’ but has become a ‘friend for life’ to the young trainees as
he also helps them to find jobs in other companies where he is a consultant for their People and Process
Development. He applauded Prof Moushmi Achari for additionally taking a four hours extra session on
‘Mind Power Techniques’ as her contribution to our CSR. Dhamankar also expressed gratitude to
everyone in Forbes Marshall and outside faculties who contributed to making this training a success.

This year, Subodh Govardhan took a full day session for the combined batches of Mechanical and
Instrumentation on Lean Manufacturing that was really appreciated by the CII-FM students.

He also said that the students were put through nine weeks Hands-on work experience by rotation to gain
exposure in various functional areas on products/systems and business processes in both Pimpri and
Chakan units.
He said that even this time the trainees had an Extended Learning of four weeks, in which they were
given various assignments in different departments. He also conducted a SWOT Analysis for each
student individually and mentored them about how to overcome their fears, look at the areas of
improvement and build a career.

He also felicitated the class monitor Stephy Roy, and applauded her leadership, maturity, accountability
and dedication to her task.

Anil Aras and Subodh Govardhan then handed out the prizes to the toppers of the batch. The third place
was bagged by Shubham Mugale with 68%. The second place had a tie among three trainees namely
Lokesh Mandwe, Prajakta Kakade and Sneha Bugad with 69% each and the first place was taken by
Divyaksh Bhujade with 72%. Abhilash K was given a special prize for being ‘The Most Talented Student’,
while Snehal Kalbhor won it for being ‘The Most industrious Student’.

Seven trainees namely Divyaksh Bhujade, Pooja R., Lokesh Mandwe, Prajakta Kakade, Shubham
Mugale, Nilima Suryawanshi and Stephy Roy shared their experiences and key takeaways from the
course, which provided a true campus to corporate transition for them.

All the students said the course broadened their horizons and made them better and more confident
people. They all appreciated and were impressed with the Arca, Krohne and Chakan manufacturing
facilities.

Divyaksh said that the bonding between them is so good that if anyone calls, the other will be able to
figure out the reason immediately. He said that he has made a lot of friends in this course and all of them
have emerged better people. He was happy to be selected as GTE (Sales) at FM Nagpur.

Pooja R said that she was hesitant to come from down south, but settled in quite nicely and was
impressed and awed by the open-door policy of Forbes Marshall.

Lokesh said that he found everyone extremely passionate about their work, right from the security guard
at the gate, to the senior management team.
Prajakta said that in college, everyone learns the theoretical aspects, however, very few people are able
to see the practical aspects and actually observe how a rotameter or flowmeter is constructed. She also
said that Forbes Marshall taught them about professionalism along with Family Spirit.

Shubham said that life gives you lots of opportunities, but it is up to you to grab it or not.

Nilima said that the work culture at Forbes Marshall is different from other companies she has worked for
before. Every day was a new learning experience for her and Mr Dhamankar groomed them in an
extremely professional way.

Stephy, the class monitor, said that she had mixed feelings – happiness and sadness. She said she had a
job and was not sure if she should leave it or not for the course. She says that her decision to leave her
job was the best one she had made and she thanked all her batch-mates for supporting her in her journey
as a monitor. She said that she learnt a great deal about the meaning of leadership and was grateful to
Mr Dhamankar for tapping her strengths and weaknesses and guiding her to overcome the latter.

After this, Bhalchandra Puranik congratulated the students and told them that the only way to do a job is
to “Try and understand what you can give back to the organisation. Implement the Lean concept in your
lives - be a good team player and have a solution-oriented approach. Remember to always keep
learning.”

Aspi Kolah then spoke about our illustrious history and how Indians invented the zero and the decimal
point. He gave the example of ISRO and said that the graduates should always remember three things in
their life. They should always have a strategy of where they would like to be and where their career is
heading, they should be passionate about their work, and they should never take short-cuts because
there is no substitute to hard work and diligence.

Jehangir Ardeshir then addressed the graduates, telling them to always stay fit throughout their career.
He said, “Always follow your passion as that is the key to success. Be consistent in your hard work and
have self-discipline in everything that you do.” He also advised them to learn from experienced people
and not judge them only on the basis of their education. He said a good leader is one who “enables rather
than controls others”. It also means “taking responsibility for your colleagues’ work as well as their well-
being.” He ended his speech by saying that the will and hunger to learn is what will take them places.
After this, Jehangir and Mr Kolah distributed the certificates and congratulated students on successful
completion of the course.
Kalyani Yadav from the earlier CII-FM.AA Batch-4 was specially invited for this function. She spoke to the
students about her work experiences and wished them all the best in their journey.

Abhishek Jain from CII’s AA group advised students to “keep society in mind and always find
opportunities to give back” in proposing his Vote of Thanks.

The session ended with a group photo and high tea, where the students interacted with each other and
the trainers.
