Lesson Plan in Science 10
(Gemini 2:00 – 3:00)

I. Learning Competency:

Explain how species diversity increases the probability of adaptation and survival of
organisms in changing environments (S10LT-IIIh-41)

Objective/s:

At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

a) Define biodiversity and stability
b) Explain how biodiversity is related to stability, and
c) Escalate the importance of biodiversity in maintaining the stability of an ecosystem.

Peace Education Integration: Living in Harmony with the Earth

ELICIT:
- The previous module thought us about how diversity increase the probability of
adaptation and survival of an organism on a changing environment.
- Where organism tend to undergo evolutionary change that enable them to be suitable in
an environment where they live.

ENGAGE:

Comparison of High and Low Biodiversity

- From the picture above, which one has a more stable ecosystem?
- Which can provide enough source of food?
- Which is most likely a better place to live for every organism?
- Presentation of Objectives

EXPLORE:
- Activity no. 1 Biodiversity or Stability
- Rubrics will be presented before grouping.
- The students will be grouped into three (3)
- Instruction: Choose what best suits to the statement below, is it Biodiversity or Stability?
Statement Biodiversity or Stability
1 In a marine ecosystem where different types of
marine animals are located like fish, crustaceans,
dolphins etc.

2 Plants, animals, and different organism interact in a

rainforest.

3 Many lions have died due to starvation

4 The Philippine eagle is considered endangered
species due to hunting.

5 Wildfire struck the forest in Australia last July, 2020.

Many plants and animals died, after several months,
plants are starting to grow again and
animals are starting to show up.

- Define biodiversity and stability?

- Biodiversity refers to a variety of different organism interact with one

another. An ecosystem compose of different organisms that plays a diverse
role such as the one utilizes the sunlight to create a chemical energy, they
are also responsible in maintaining the flow of that chemical energy,
and even responsible in circulating the essential biogeochemical
(abiotic factor) such as air, minerals, carbon, nitrogen, etc. that
ecosystem needs for it to be suitable for living.
- The variation of these organisms become valuable to human economically
and ecologically. It serves as source of food, medicine, clothing, shelter,
and energy.
- Stability is a state of balance in an ecosystem where it maintains the
flow of nutrients (abiotic factor) and the flow of energy in a form of food.
Any factor that maintains this balance gone; the system may collapse.
EXPLAIN
- Activity N o . 2 High or Low?
- Instruction: Given a sample ecosystem, tell if it has High Biodiversity /
Low Biodiversity and describe the stability if High Stability/ Low Stability
Sample Ecosystem High Biodiversity High Stability/
/ Low Low Stability
Biodiversity

1 Grass- goat- man

2 Trees, grass- giraffe- lion- hyena-
bacteria.

3 Rabbit- fox – lion

4 Plant – squirrel, grasshopper –
scorpion -eagle- fox – bacteria, fungi

5 Plant, trees, grass-grasshopper -

birds, frog, rat – snake -eagle-
bacteria.

(AP9MSP-IVd-8)

- How is biodiversity related to stability?

- Relationship between Biodiversity and Stability

- High Biodiversity = High Stability
- Low Biodiversity = Low stability
- Low biodiversity and Low stability

Figure 1.2 Low Biodiversity and low Stability

- What happened to the ecosystem when the grass suddenly gone due to
drought?
- With low biodiversity, only one source of food may die, the whole system
will collapse.
- High biodiversity and High Stability

Figure 1.3 High Biodiversity and High Stability

- What happened to the ecosystem when the grass suddenly gone due to
drought?

ELABORATE

- Activity No. 3 What’s My Value?

- Instruction: Classifying the value of organisms in an ecosystem by choosing
their value on the box below. Then put a check (/) if what kind of value it is.

 Purify Air
 Helps the farmer in cultivating farmland
 Aids in pollination
 Source of Carbohydrates
 Provides Oxygen

- Why organism is important in maintaining the stability of ecosystem?

- The higher the biodiversity the higher stability or the resistance and resilience of the
ecosystem. Where the chances of survival of each organism is depend on how the
ecosystem can hold and supply the demand of the organism lives on it.
- As a steward of this planet, we are liable to protect and conserve the stability of the
ecosystem where we are living. The resources we are getting from it, whether it is
renewable or nonrenewable must be taken in moderation so that the future generation can

Stability Ecosystem diversity Resistance Abiotic Stewardship

1. An ecosystem has an ability to remain what it is even if there is a disturbance on its

component.
2. Water, air, chemical components and other non-living factor contributes to the stability of
an ecosystem.
3. This characteristic of an ecosystem enables all organism to live well with enough source
of food, shelter, and other necessities for the organisms to survive.
4. The role of human in an ecosystem to consume and use the availability of the resources in
a moderate amount so that the future generation will still have something left for them.
5. Rainforest, grassland, marine, and desert are the different types of ecosystem.

EXTEND:

Have an advance reading on population growth and carrying capacity.

1. Define population growth and carrying capacity
2. Explain the relationship of population growth and carrying capacity using model
