About Us

Cameron and Lizzie are two 17-year-old Seniors at Severn. During our time here, we have both
felt a great sense of community, and feel like that sense grows stronger each year. Severn has
given us both a large family full of support and a strong foundation for success. However, we
want to pass this on to our classmates that might not have that same perception of the
community.

Cameron has been attending Severn since 4th grade after moving from California. Being new to
both the school and the state, she was in need of a new support system and community. She
was able to find this at Severn. When Cameron reached high school, she took full advantage of
what Severn had to offer her. She participated and thrived as a goalie on the girl’s lacrosse
team, was active in clubs including Spirit Captains and Peer Counselors and took a leadership
role in creating the school yearbook each year. For her senior year, Cameron is a Severn
Prefect, demonstrating her leadership and allowing her to provide a community for the
incoming freshmen class. Cameron is also a Severn Diplomat and in the National Honors
Society. She will continue her success playing lacrosse at Duke University and hopes to form a
community with her team there as she has been able to at Severn.

Lizzie came to Severn in 5th grade and has since felt comfortable and supported by her peers
and teachers. Through high school, Lizzie has participated in many activities including the
school newspaper, Umbrella Club, being a Severn Diplomat, and in the National Honors Society.
Lizzie has also led the club Spirit Captains throughout high school, being a president of the club
since her sophomore year. Lizzie is able to use Spirit Captains as a way to share her love and
enthusiasm for the Severn community with her peers and provide them with the same
excitement she has felt all through high school. Lizzie also participates in Severn girl’s lacrosse
and led the Junior Varsity team her sophomore year as a team captain.

About the Book page

Lizzie and Cameron had the motivation to create this book from their desire to share their
feeling of community with their peers and mentors. Their idea to do this was to create a book
including biographies of individual members of the Severn community whose stories might be
unknown. Sharing this information of individuals of the Severn community will hopefully inform
people of the diversity, while also similarity of those at Severn. The goal of this book is highlight
one of the most important parts of attending or working at Severn, the support and love one
will always receive as a member of the community.

What is the Fellows Program?

The Van Eney ’09 Fellows Program is a work that selects 10-12 Severn Seniors to pursue a
passion of theirs through a yearlong project of their choice. It provides funding and support for
those students to create and share their ideas and enthusiasm of a topic. This project is perfect
for Lizzie and Cameron and allows them to create a format to represent their idea of the Severn
Community.
