Fieona would like for mothers to have easier access to

support. “Breastfeeding support should be like a
hospital and not like a secret sorority,” she explains.
“With a hospital, people know what it's there for. When
someone is sick they go to the emergency room.
People in the community know about their local
hospital and what to do if they need it. Breastfeeding
support should be like that, so mothers are able to
easily access phone numbers for help, find support
groups, and know who to contact for assistance. This
doesn't mean everyone will use, need, or want it.
However, it's there for those who do. I have
encountered women who didn’t know what LLL was
until I explained it. I've even talked to mothers where I
work who don't know anything about the breastfeeding
programs being offered.”

Asked what might surprise others about her, Fieona

says her second language is American Sign Language.
“I am pretty fluent and am able to carry on a simple
conversation. However, I am not as fluent as I would
like to be.”
