Components: V, S, M (severed hand)
Duration: Instantaneous
From your chest, ghastly hands extend to
grapple a target creature within range. It
must make a Strength save or take (2d6)
necrotic damage, and its speed is reduced
to 0 until the start of your next turn.
Target creatures that are large size or
bigger get advantage to the strength save.

Common. Known spells that are easy
to acquire. Spells in the PHB are
common.
Uncommon. Spells that are known but
must be acquired or found.
Unique. Unknown spells that must be
found. It could require research to
learn it.
DESIGN NOTES
I wanted to make a spell that grapples at
range. Ray of Sickness (I've liked that
name as Ray implies AOE) is close
already with both prone and poisoned.
There was a version where it was more
like Witch Bolt, less range but holding
people each round. Thought it was too
strong.
Love the image of the hands coming out
of their chest. It could be a Warlock
spell.
Not sure if this spell is too strong or too
weak? To niche?
This spell might be good for items with
a wand, or rod, even just enchanted
hands. I made an example below.
BONUS ITEM
Here is an item using the spell.

Magical Hand, uncommon (attuned)
Crafted by the Death Shamans of the Rot
Jungles, this enchanted severed hand is a
gift of their cult. Once attuned, as an action, it
can be thrown at a target creature to cast
Hands of the Dead (see spell). At the end of
the duration, it will lay on the ground next to
the target creature. If the target creature
makes its strength save with a natural 20 the
magical hand is ripped to pieces and is
destroyed.
