STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Growing up in a City that is popularly known for its Heritage, I was naturally allured by the beauty
of the structures and palaces. With each passing year, the inclination towards having a career in a
field that deals with development of these magnificent structures grew. When I see an empty site,
I get abstract ideas and the splurge of concepts to turn this virtual reality into an aesthetic &
efficient project comes to me quite organically. The possibility of manifesting it into concrete
reality, inspires me to pursue a career in Construction Technology.

I believe that the best way to predict the future is to make it. With this belief, I have always planned
and intend to work towards my goals so as to fulfil them. I worked towards and secured a merit
admission for an undergraduate program in Construction Technology and Management at JSS
Science and Technology University, Mysore which is rated as one among the best Engineering
colleges in Karnataka. This further intrigued me to explore the intricacies of this field. It was
competitive, demanding and challenging at the same time. With a master’s degree in Construction
Management from the University of Leeds, I believe that I’ll be able to apply my skills in
construction management to corporate projects, which will allow me to utilize both my creative
vision and management skills to complete building projects.

Despite being a sophomore at the time, I was elected as the Vice Chairman of the committee
responsible for organizing “Tantragyaan”, a National Level Technical Symposium on
Construction Engineering. My role as Vice chair required me to guide different team leaders
requisite for smooth execution of all the activities. By doing so, I was invested in all the phases of
organizing the event. I have a keen observation and ensured that all the tasks appointed were
successfully completed. Working along with these teams helped me acquire leadership skills which
is germane in the realm of management.

Although I liked my classes, my internship experiences however, really confirmed my interest in

Construction management. During my sophomore year, I acquired in-depth practical knowledge
during an internship at Gravity One, Mysore where I was provided with an opportunity to
comprehend the principles and practical implications of Cost Management and Cost Control
Techniques on construction projects. Here, I took upon the task of performing a study based on
Resource Management, Structure detailing and Project Scheduling. In addition, I gained
knowledge on Primavera Software, maintained checklists, prepared reports and analysed delay
logs. This fruitful experience motivated me to pursue my final year project on Cost and Resource
Management. Later, I interned at BHAMYS Constructions where I was exposed to the various
aspects of Construction Engineering and Management. I interacted with Engineers having hands
on experience with cutting-edge technologies that thoroughly inspired me. It is my firm belief that
if the principles of construction management are extended in construction industry, it would result
in an overall safer, economical, profitable and speedy construction. I wish to see myself as a
remarkable contributor in the construction industry & hope to inspire and compete, all of which
would result in the betterment of the society.

I’m currently in the final year of my undergraduate degree. The curriculum of Construction
Technology and Management highlights the importance of effective team coordination for project
execution in quality construction practice and has exposed me to various components of
construction industry. During my academics, my studies emphasized on Project Management
Systems, Construction Economics and Finance, Quantitative Estimation and Valuation and other
management related subjects which shed light to the latest construction technology and
management methods. At this point of my academic career, I believe that my undergraduate
education has provided what one can call, only a glimpse of this field and there is so much more
waiting to be explored and created in this industry. I understand that Master’s in Construction
Management will be quintessential in giving me exposure and enhancement enabling me to pursue
meticulous research and excel at it.
Apart from academics, I indulge in activities that give back to the society. I have had the
opportunity to be a part of multiple non – profit organisations and currently volunteering at Project
ReachOut, a social service organisation in Mysore by leading fundraisers for the development of
students with special needs. Besides this, I also had an opportunity to be a part time tutor at
Rainbow Institute of Service & Education (RISE).

I believe after pursuing this Master’s program, will not only give me a hands on experience
working on leading projects but also expand my knowledge & learnings so as to be efficient in my
work and achieve the greatest standards of performance by efficient cost, time, quality & safety
management. Furthermore, it will also challenge me to explore and develop proficient construction
management techniques.

United Kingdom has made significant contributions to the world economy, especially in
technology. Moreover, it has been imperative in inspiring me with its contemporary & quaint
structures. To encapsulate, I desire to be part of the Master’s program at The University of Leeds
chiefly because of the facilities provided in Construction Management. Secondly, for the
investment in latest technological facilities for research and learning. The University of Leeds, as
a member of the Russell Group University has high-quality education and research. By training
under the well-designed course along with guidance of your highly qualified and experienced
Professors, I am sure to have plethora of opportunities to attain new heights in this field and make
significant progress both in my education and future career.

I believe I have the zeal to excel & efficiently meet demands of the program. It would be a privilege
to learn and grow by transforming my vision into reality by pursuing Master’s in Construction
