Course Description
Technological innovation drives how people work and interact in
organisations. BUS104 Organisational Behaviour in the Technology Era is the
study of individual and group behaviour within organisations in the modern
technological environment. Organisational behaviour is an exciting and
dynamic field of study that has great importance for achieving organisational
success. The study of organisational behaviour provides students with the
opportunity to develop and refine people management skills in an
organisational context. This course introduces students to the concepts,
theories and practices of organisational behaviour which can be applied in the
contemporary workplace. Some of the topics include personality, motivation,
group behaviour and organisational change. Students will also examine how
technology impacts organisational behaviour in different ways.

• Individual level
– Factors that affect individual employees (e.g., personality and perception)
• Group level
– Factors that affect groups (e.g., teams, communication, conflict)
• Organisational level
– Factors that affect the organisation (e.g., organisation structure, change
management)

• OB inputs – Variables like personality, group structure and
organisational culture that lead to processes
• OB processes – Actions that individuals, groups, and organisations
engage in as a result of inputs and that lead to certain outcomes.
Examples of OB processes:
– Individual level – motivation, perception, decision making
– Group level – communication, power, leadership, conflict
– Organisational level – human resource management and change
processes
• OB outcomes – Key variables that you want to explain or predict and
that are affected by other variables

• Key OB outcomes are:
– Attitudes and stress, task performance, organisational citizenship
behaviour, counterproductive work behaviour, group cohesion, group
functioning, productivity, and survival

• While studying OB you must try to establish linkages/relationships


between different OB variables. By doing so, you will better understand
how OB functions
