Firefighting
EFFECTIVE BOUNDARY COOLING
Big fires often start small. On board a ship, containing a fire can be the difference between life and
death. One of the most important ways of controlling the spread of a fire is boundary cooling.

Seagull’s new title describes how fires spread and focuses on effective boundary cooling techniques
that will ensure onboard fires can be contained and extinguished.

This e-learning module will describe procedures for controlling the escalation or spread of fire aboard
ship using boundary cooling techniques. It will provide a summary of the principles of fire control based
on the fire triangle and emphasise the importance of cooling within that paradigm. It will identify
boundary cooling techniques, the equipment used and management of the risks likely to be
encountered. The e-learning module will prepare the learner so they can initiate, maintain and control
effective boundary cooling in different types of fire and areas of the ship.
