CONJUNCTIONS

 Used to connect sentences.

Conjunction Function
And To give additional information.
But / Though / However To connect contrasting ideas (opposite aspects; something good, something
bad).

For and and but:

S + V + ,
C and / but S + V + C.

For though and however:

S + V + C . S + V + ,
C though / however.

E.g.: Sophie is extremely tall. / She’s really beautiful.


 Sophie is extremely tall, and she’s really beautiful.

Paul is very sick. / He hasn’t stopped working.


 Paul is very sick, but he hasn’t stopped working.
 Paul is very sick. He hasn’t stopped working, though.
 Paul is very sick. He hasn’t stopped working, however.

U&S is about to start a new construction in Cumbayá. / The project isn’t well accepted in the sector.
 U&S is about to start a new construction in Cumbayá, but the project isn’t well accepted in the sector.

We’re very young and intelligent. / We want to learn English so that we can study abroad in the future.
