Sunshine Marina Bay

Designed by MDL Pioneers Integrated Entertainment

Resort in Vietnam
With its architectural dynamism and a vast range of luxury experiences, it becomes Nha
Trang’s prime structural identity.

In a seaside city in Southern Vietnam, situated along the pristine coast of Nha Trang,
rises an integrated resort complex that offers a unique and lush experience of
entertainment and leisure.
It is to provide world-class business and entertainment facilities including luxury marina,
glass-bottom swimming pools, theatre, casino, shopping street, theme parks, sky bars,
and high-end commercial establishments.
Built under the inspiration of an integrated resort like the Marina Bay Sands in
Singapore, Sunshine Marina Bay hosts two 40-storey cascading hotel towers facing
each other, a waterfront promenade, and an astonishing rooftop with infinity pools and
restaurants.
Given these features, part of MDL’s architectural solution is the hotels’ fluid and
dynamic façade that intends to break the monotonous pattern of its walls and balconies.
This also gives the structure a vertical ripple effect from an inner perspective.
Besides this pattern of waves, we also altered the finishing on the beam of the balcony
ledges to a section of glass, thus, visually creating another series of vertical waves on
the façade.
The first few floors are layered balconies that have thicker elevations than those on the
top. This results in forming a cohesive texture that keeps the two buildings connected.
Additionally, there is a large non-overlapping wavy terrace at the footprint of the building
and is linked through a bridge.
Asymmetry, as typically perceived as a disadvantage for most projects, is rather seen
as an advantage by MDL. The imbalance between the two towers instead created an
accent and an interesting design proposition for the project.
Meanwhile, amidst the hotel buildings is an elliptical theatre with a 360-degree night-
show concept. This allows customers residing in the rooms facing inwards to participate
in the night displays as balconies are generously provided for them to watch shows
without having to step out of their rooms.
Informed by the features of classical opera theatres in Italy, MDL had these semi-
circular implants in the theatre incorporated with the semi-arched hotel towers, as
though they are embracing the central structure.
The theatre is rested on the basement level of the site, surrounded by an extensive
water feature.
Linked to the main buildings is a beachfront development that comprises of 1-2 floors
and will take spirited wavy feel from the main buildings.
Taking great inspiration from Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay, plant gardens and man-
made structural trees are spread throughout the landscape, converging a futuristic yet
rejuvenating atmosphere to the development.
Interestingly, from a general point of view, the entire project gives the luxury of viewing
the buildings from two different perspectives—on the outside is a sleek flat glass wall
facade and from the inside, it is very dynamic.
Sunshine Marina Bay, driven by the passion of evoking constant innovation and
bringing the utmost convenience and comfort, will not only set Nha Trang’s tourism to a
new point of horizon but will also serve as a new aspiration for today’s young dreamers.
