Levels of Biological Organization

I. CONTENT STANDARD: The learners demonstrate understanding of the different
levels of biological organization.

II. Learning Competency: Describe the different levels of biological organization from
cell to biosphere.

Objectives: At the end of the one-hour session, the students should be able to:
1. Describe the different levels of biological organization from cell to
biosphere.
2. Arrange the levels of biological organization from the simplest to the most
complex.
3. Determine the importance of biological levels of organization.

III. SUBJECT MATTER: Levels of Biological Organization

SCIENCE IDEAS AND CONCEPTS:
 Biological organization - refers to the system of classification of the levels
of living things arranged in hierarchical order.

MATERIALS:
 TV, HDMI, Laptop, Activity sheets

SCIENCE PROCESSES:
Basic: Observing, Identifying, Communicating
Integrated: Arranging the different level of biological organization in
chronological order

VALUES INTEGRATION: Demonstrate help, respect, and unity among each other.

II. Engage  You did great class. Now, we will
proceed to our next lesson.
 Before we formally discuss our
next topic, let us play a game.
You will be divide into three
groups.
 In this game, I want you to know
more about yourselves. I will give
you a category and you will
arrange yourselves according to
the category given.
 You are free to discuss who will
come first, second, third and so
on. But you will only have ten
seconds to complete each
category.
 At the end of this game, you
need to determine the one word
that is being describe by the
game. I will also give you a clue
after the game.
 Are you now ready?
 So let’s start!
o List of categories:  Yes, ma’am!

o Weight
o Birth month
o Skin color
o Length of your hair
 Okay, everyone did a great job.
So now, I told you earlier to

of the activity sheet and return
the paper to the owner.
 So, who got the perfect score?
 Okay so now let us discuss the
different levels of Biological
organization. From your activity
you learned that there are eight
levels of biological organization.
 You have also learned from your
junior high school years that cell
is the basic unit of life. It means

that life is composed of cells.
Without cells, life will not be
possible. Our body is made up of
cells which means that we are
living things. This is also a
manifestation that living
organisms are made up of
organs. These organs are made
of cells. Living things include
both animals and plants.
 Living and nonliving things are
different yet are mutually
dependent on each other. They
are classified in a hierarchical
and orderly manner according to
their level of complexity. And we
call this as biological
organization.
 Take a look at this pyramid. This
pyramid shows the different
levels of biological organization
from simple to complex.
 First on the list is the cell. As I

have earlier, said are the basic

unit of life. Cell are specialized by  Teacher will

 You have learned from your of the
previous grades that we have different
two type of cells, the prokaryotic levels of
and eukaryotic cells. biological
 Prokaryotic cells are cells with no organization

are cell with nucleus and other
membrane- bound organelles.
Examples are plant cell and

animal cell.
 Second to the order is the tissue.
They are same type of cells and
are grouped together to perform
a specific function.
 Blood, bone, tendon, ligament,
adipose, and areolar tissues are
examples of connective tissues.
And connective tissue can also
be classified into three types:
fibrous connective tissue,
skeletal connective tissue, and
fluid connective tissue.
 Third in line is the organ. Organs
are made up of different tissues
that work together.
 Example of an organ is your  Teacher will

For plant organs, we have roots, of the
stems and leaves. different
 Fourth level of biological levels of
organization is an organ system. biological
Organ system is a group of organization
organs that works together. For and discuss
example, your circulatory system more related

arteries, veins and capillaries.
 Fifth, is the organisms. The
definition of an organism is a
creature such as a plant, animal
or a single-celled life form, or
something that has
interdependent parts and that is
being compared to a living
creature. An example of an
organism is a dog, person or
bacteria.
 Next to organisms is your
population. Population is a group
of the same organisms all living
together in the same area or
place. For example, a pride of
lions.
 Nest is community. Community
is when two or more populations
interacting with each other form

a community, for example, lion
and zebra populations
interacting with each other.
 In eighth place is your
ecosystem. In ecosystem, it is
where populations living
together in one area.
 An ecosystem is a geographic
area where plants, animals, and
other organisms, as well as
weather and landscape, work
together to form a bubble of life.
 Lastly, the biosphere. All
ecosystems around the world  Teacher will
make up the biosphere. show photos
 The biosphere extends from the of the
deepest root systems of trees, to different
the dark environments of ocean levels of
trenches, to lush rain forests, biological

V. Elaborate  Do you have any questions?  None!
 If you have no questions, we will
proceed to the next activity. In
this activity it will test your
familiarity to biological
organization.
