Legend
The Legend Of Prambanan Temple

Once, there was a beautiful Javanese princess whose name was Rara Jonggrang. Rara Jonggrang
whose beauty was very famous in the land was the daughter of Prabu Baka, and evil king.

One day, a handsome young man with super natural power named Bandung Bondowoso defeated
and killed Prabu Baka. On seeing Princess Rara Jonggrang’s beauty, Bandung Bondowoso fell in love
with her and wanted to marry her.

Meanwhile, Princess Rara jonggrang felt sad due to her death father. She did not want to marry
Bandung because he had killed her father. But she was also afraid of Bandung. So to refuse politely,
she made a condition. “I will marry you but you have to build one thousand temples in one night as a
wedding gift” requested Rara Jonggrang. Bandung Bondowoso agreed with the condition. Helped by
the spirit of the demons, Bandung Bondowoso started building the temples. Approaching midnight,
the work would nearly be done. Rara Jonggrang knew and thought, “What shall I do? Bandung
Bondowoso is smarter than I thought. I would lose against Bandung.”

Suddenly she got an idea. She woke up all the women in the palace and ordered them to make the
noisy sounds of grinding rice so that the rooster thought that it had already been dawn. Bandung
Bondowoso got frustrated because he failed completing one, the thousandth temple.

The Princess has deceived me!” Following his anger, he cursed Roro Jonggrang, “You have been
cheated. Now, the thousandth temple is you!”

At once, the Princess turned into a statue. knowing this, Bandung Bondowoso regretted and he went
away into a farm land. From then, people called the temple, Prambanan Temple, and the Princess
statue, Rara Jonggrang statue.

2. Fairy Tale
Pinocchio
Once upon a time, there was a puppeteer named Geppetto. He really wanted a boy but his wife has
been died for a long time ago. One day, he had an idea. He wanted to make a puppet so he would
never felt lonely again. He made a puppet all night without resting. In the morning, finally he finished
his work. He named the puppet, Pinocchio. He played whole day with Pinocchio. However, he felt
lonely again because Pinocchio couldn’t talk or walk by himself. In the middle of the night, Geppetto
prayed to the God. His wish was Pinocchio became a real boy, human. He thought it on his mind in
his dream.
In the next morning, he surprised. Pinocchio was alive. He really was happy. He tough Pinocchio how
to walk, how to speak, how to read etc. like a teacher. Pinocchio learned fast. He entered an
elementary school. One day, Pinocchio felt bored. So, he went home late. Geppetto worried about
him. When Pinocchio came to home, Geppetto asked him. He said he was on school but he didn’t.
Suddenly, Pinocchio’s nose grow longer. It meant that Pinocchio lied.
The next day, Pinocchio got caught by thieves. The thieves was the owner of circus. Pinocchio
became a slave for the circus. He was famous because he was a talking puppet. Geppetto worried
him. Pinocchio didn’t come home for 2 days. He found Pinocchio everywhere. When he discovered
the sea, big wave smashed him. He was on whale’s stomach when he awoke. He couldn’t find the
way out.
In different place, Pinocchio finally could get out from circus. He went to home but Geppetto wasn’t
on there. He found Geppetto at sea. He had the same accident like Geppetto. He met Geppetto in
whale’s stomach. They got out from its stomach by made a fire.
They went home back together. In the end, they lived happy forever after.

3. Folktale
Ali Baba

Once upon a time there were 40 cruel thieves who put their stolen money and
treasures in a cave. They went in the cave by saying ”Open Sesame” to the cave
entrance. A poor person, named Ali Baba saw them while they were doing that, so he
heard the opening word. After they left, he went toward the cave and opened it.
Suddenly he found a very large quantity of money and golden treasures. He took
some of it and went back home. After that he became a rich man and his brother
wanted to know how he became rich.

Ali Baba turned into the richest man in his village. His evil brother was really jealous
of him, and wanted to know how he could get such a lot of money. Therefore, when
Ali Baba went to the cave again to take some more money, his brother followed him.
He saw everything, and decided to go back the next day to take some money for
himself. The next morning he found a lot of money in the cave, and he wanted to take
all of them. Unfortunately, when he was busy carrying the money to his house, the
thieves came. The boss of the thieves asked him how he knew about the cave. He
told everything, but unluckily they killed him and went to Ali Baba’s house.

After finding Ali Baba’s house, they made a plan to kill him the following night. Some
of the thieves hid in big jars, and the boss pretended that he was a merchant who
wanted to sell the jars to Ali Baba. Ali Baba who was a kind man invited the boss of
the thief to have lunch together.After lunch they took a rest. Luckily, the house maid
went out of the house, and found that there were thieves inside the jars. She finally
boiled hot oil and poured it intothe jars to kill all of them. The boss of the thieves was
caught, and put into prison.

Ali Baba was saved from the danger, and he finally lived happily ever after with his
maid who became his wife shortly after.

4. Fable
The Mouse Deer And The Tiger

One day, there was a mouse deer. He was thirsty so he wanted to drink on the river.
When the mouse deer came next to the rive, a tiger approached him and wanted to eat him.
Of course the mouse deer tried to escape, but the tiger run faster and caught him. In that
dangerous situation the mouse deer thought hard how to escape the tiger. Then he got idea
and said to the tiger, “Listen! Your mightiness and toughness are all great! But I have my
own king. He has a greater strength than yours! I am sure that nobody can match his
powers!” Because the tiger felt taunted, he declared that he would challenge the mouse
deer’s king.
Next the mouse lead the tiger to the river, and said, “Now Look at the water. You will see my
king” Foolishly the tiger looked in the river and surely saw another tiger in the water. Then
he growled, but the tiger in the river imitated to growl too. Because of his too high self
pride, the tiger jumped into the water, and wanted to fight. He was believing there was
another tiger in the water.
The mouse deer took that opportunity to escape. After fighting with himself in the river, the
tiger realized that he was fooled by the mouse deer .

5. Myths
The Myths of Dewi Sri

Once upon a time, Batara Guru commanded all the gods and goddesses to contribute their
power in order to build a new palace. Anybody who disobeyed this commandment were
considered lazy and would lose their arms and legs.

 Hearing the Batara Guru's commandment, Naga god was very anxious because he didn't have
arms or legs.  He might not be able do the job. So he asked  advice from Batara Narada who was
the younger brother of Batara Guru. Unfortunately Narada was also confused. The Naga god
became very upset.

While the Naga god was crying for his bad luck, three teardrops fell on the ground. Not long
after that, those teardrops became three beautiful shining eggs which looked like jewels. Then
Batara Narada advised him to offer those  shining eggs to Batara Guru.

With the three eggs in his mouth, the Naga god went to the Batara Guru's palace. On the way, 
an eagle asked him a question. Surely Naga god could not answer the question because he was
holding the eggs in his mouth. Seeing that, the bird thought that Naga god was arrogant and the
bird attacked him.

Being attacked, one egg fell to earth. Then Naga god was hiding in the bushes but the bird was
waiting for him. The bird attacked for the second time and one egg fell again. So Naga god only
had one egg in his mouth. He kept moving to Batara Guru's palace.

Finally Naga god arrived at the palace. He offered the egg to the Batara Guru. And miraculously
the egg hatched became a very beautiful baby girl. Naga god gave the baby girl to the Batara
Guru. The baby grew up into a beautiful girl and later known for Dewi Sri.

6. Spoof

Wrong Email Address

A couple was going to have a vacation in a tropical country but the wife was on a business trip.
The husband went to the destination first and his wife would meet him the next day. When he
arrived at the hotel, he decided to send his wife a quick email.

Unfortunately, he mistyped a letter when he was typing her email address and it was directed
instead to an elderly preacher’s wife whose husband had passed away only the day before.
When the grieving widow checked her incoming email, she took one look at her laptop screen,
let out a piercing scream and fell to the floor in a dead faint.
Hearing the sound, her family rushed into the room and saw this note on the screen.

DearestWife,
Just got checked in. Everything prepared for your arrival tomorrow.
PS. It’s really hot down here.

7. Anecdote

Fisherman

Guess what happened when there was fisherman who threw a big fish back into the
water and keep only that small one? It is unusual incident, isn’t?

One morning, a man was crossing a narrow bridge. When he saw a fisherman under him
on the shady bank of the deep smooth river, he stopped to watch him quietly.

He saw that the fisherman took off the hook and caught a big fish. But he threw it back to
water. Then he put his hook and line in again. After a minute he caught rather big fish.
Again, he threw it back into the river. Then the third time, he caught a small fish. He put it
into his basket and started to get ready to go. The man on the bridge was very surprised,
so he spoke to the fisherman. He asked why did he threw those beautiful big fishes back
into the water and just kept only the small one.

The fisherman looked up and answered, “I only have a small frying pan.”

Poor fisherman!

8. History/Biography

Sukarno
Sukarno was the first president of Indonesia. He was born in 6 June 1901 and died in 21 June
1970. He led his country to fight against Netherlands and the man who proclaimed the
independence. Sukarno was a prominent leader of nationalist movement during the colonial
period. He spent more than a decade under the detention before released by the Japanese
force.
Ir. Sukarno and all his nationalist fellows collaborated to collect support in spreading
nationalist ideas. When Japan surrender the Indonesian independence was declared by
Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta on 17 August 1945. At the same time, Sukarno was appointed
as the president and Mohammad Hatta as vice president. After became president, Sukarno had
to fight once again against resisting Dutch re-colonization efforts.
After parliamentary democracy chaos in 1957, Sukarno put an autocratic system called
Guided Democracy. It successfully ended the rebellions and instability which were
threatening the country. In the early 1960s, Sukarno brought the country to the Soviet by
giving protection and support to the Indonesian Communist Party.
Unfortunately, the 30 September movement in 1965 ended the communist era and Sukarno’s
position as president was replaced by Suharto, the man who became president for 32 years.
After Suharto in charged, Sukarno was exiled to Bogor and spent the rest of his life there.
