PART A
CONTEXT:

Entry Behavior: The learners are aware of the issues related to nature and the consequences of harming the trees

Correlation: The lesson will be related to the co-existence of nature and human and how important it is to maintain the
balance.

Teaching Aids: Source Book, Web sources, newspapers, power point presentation

Content Analysis: The poem by Gieve Patel is a protest poem. It is written in stanzas of irregular length. The title
indicates the ironical aspects of a tree. Trees are very generous and our best friend. But man’s selfish greed always
destroys the moral quality of nature. But a simple jabbing with a knife or chopping cannot kill a tree. The selfish cruel men
cuts trees in humanly. The poet ironically said it is to be uprooted and snapped out of the earth and then it is exposed in the
sunlight for drying. It passes through the process of scorching, browsing hardening, twisting and with erring. In this way
poet ironically points out our cruelty towards the tree. At last he wanted to mean we have to save the trees to save
ourselves in this world. Otherwise we will move towards the destruction.

Value/Core Component to be highlighted: Saving nature and how human greed can cause destruction.

Instructional Objectives and Specifications

A) For the Lesson: Learner will learn and appreciate the poem.

B) For the Assignment: Prepare a short paragraph on harmful effects of deforestation and how you
can contribute in bringing the change

C) For the Value/Core Component: highlighting the value of saving trees and taking charge of
creating awareness for saving trees.

Methodology to be followed:

- For the lesson – To provide them with open ended questions for discussions to make them reflect on
the topic and to introduce the context.
- The learners will give their interpretations and the facilitator will take all the views and opinions and
will highlight the important points received.
- Then the teacher will lead the class to reflect the lesson and the theme discussed and how it is connected
to all individuals.

- The teacher will sum up the lesson with some practical solutions of how as children they can protect
trees, how can they be the change.

- For the Value/Core Component- The core concept of conserving nature will be taught by giving real
life examples, asking about how they will contribute in conserving the nature. Eco clubs will be made
where each and every child has to participate and contribute for the cause.

Evaluation Strategies to be followed:


- For the lesson- revision of their understanding of theme and the literary devices, giving assignments
and questionnaire to evaluate their understanding of the lesson.

- For the Value/Core Component- Regular Follow ups of the work done by students as a part of saving
the environment.
- Evaluating the work done by the eco club and the contributions they have made.
