Elements are the fundamental components of the Earth and every matter that
exists. Obviously, our body also contains elements. E.g. when we drink water we
have element of hydrogen and two elements of oxygen. Not only two but our
body consists of 14 main elements. What are their functions? We will reveal
below.
1. Oxygen
Oxygen is an element coupled with symbol ‘O’
and atomic number ‘8’. Oxygen is a vital element
for the survival of life on Earth.
Our body cell needs oxygen to outperform their
tasks. When we inhale air, oxygen moves to lungs.
It is then carried by red blood cells to the body so
they can exhale nonessential gas i.e. carbon
dioxide.
Oxygen acts as a fuel for the body such as the fuel of the car.
2. Carbon
Carbons’ symbol is ‘c’ and atomic number ‘6’. It’s the second highest element
present in the body.
Carbon enters the body through air, carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Carbon
bonds are very important for the body.
3. Hydrogen
Hydrogen’s symbol is ‘H’ and its atomic number is ‘1’. Hydrogen is the element
which is very significant for the body.
As we discussed before, hydrogen is an element of the water. It keeps the body
hydrated. It carries nutrients and transform it into needed acids and enzymes. It
also helps in the Urinary system. It benefits includes the immunity and keeps
anxiety far.
4. Nitrogen
Nitrogen’s symbol is ‘N’ and atomic number is ‘7’. Nitrogen is also the vital
element of Earths composition of the air.
It enters into the body through every breath as well from grains, nuts, meat and
eggs.
It supports the digestive and urinary system. It helps in the evolving of human
embryo. It aids red blood cells to carry oxygen.
5. Calcium
Calcium’s symbol is ‘Ca’ and its atomic number is ‘20’. We all listen from our
childhood that milk is the source of calcium and it is necessary for bones and
tooth.
It enters into the body through dairy items. E.g. milk, curd etc.
It is very important for the body because it helps make the bones and tooth
strong and healthy. Calcium facilitates muscles that helps nerves to carry brain
signals. It is also vital for the secretion of proteins.
6. Phosphorus
Phosphorus’s symbol is ‘P’ and its atomic number is ‘15’.
Phosphorus is found in milk, grains, seeds etc.
Phosphorus is essential for the growth of the bones and body.
7. Sulphur
Sulphur’s symbol is ‘S’ and its atomic number is ‘16’.
Sulphur is brought in to the body through onions, broccoli, garlics, meat, milk and
turnip etc.
It is necessary for pancreas to regulate insulin. It is also important for generating
enzymes and antioxidants. It’s the essential element for the outer body
formation.
8. Potassium
Potassium’s symbol is ‘K’ and its atomic number is ‘19’.
It is imported to the body through vegetables like potatoes, and fruits like
oranges, banana and apricot etc.
It’s important for better immunity especially in Covid 19. It also collaborates with
nervous system, blood pressure and digestive system. It also balances water and
acid alkalis.
9. Sodium
Sodium’s symbol is ‘Na’ and its atomic number ‘11’.
It enters the body through salt.
It’s important for the balanced blood pressure. It can also harm if taken too much.
10. Chlorine
Chlorine’s symbol is ‘Cl’ and atomic number is ‘17’.
It also enters the body through salt.
It has same function as sodium.
Sodium chloride is known as table salt.
11. Magnesium
Magnesium’s symbol is ‘Mg’ and its atomic number is ‘12’.
Magnesium is present in spinach, legumes, seeds and grains etc.
It’s necessary for more efficient body defense, blood pressure and nervous
system.
12. Iron
Iron’s symbol is ‘Fe’ and atomic number is ‘26’.
It is taken from fish, poultry and meat.
Iron generates blood and is highly recommended for anemia patients.
13. Zinc
Zinc’s symbol is ‘Zn’ and atomic number is ‘30’.
Zinc is brought to the body by meat and lentils.
Zinc is important for mitosis and for better White blood cells attack.
14. Silicon
Silicon’s symbol is ‘Si’ and its atomic number ‘14’.
It is found in beans.
It helps repairing and strengthening muscular organs and for the growth of bones.
