VRP8 Componentization
 Components are replaceable.
 A component can be replaced by another component as long as the
substitute provides the same functions and services as those of the
replaced component.

 Components are reusable.

 High-quality software components can serve for a long time and are
stored in the software database.

 Components are distributable.

 VRP8 components are deployed in a distributed manner.

VRP8 Virtualized Hierarchy
 The VRP8 supports virtualization by dividing a device into VSs,
allowing flexible service deployment. Devices are categorized into
VSs based on logical resources.

VRP8 High Reliability
 On the VRP8, techniques such as Non-Stop x (NSx) and In-
Service Software Upgrading (ISSU) are implemented to provide
high reliability for services over networks, in line with carrier-class
operation criteria.

VRP8 Carrier-Class Management and
Maintenance
 Carrier-class management and maintenance
 The carrier-class configuration and management plane facilitates service
deployment and maintenance.

 The VRP8 provides better fault management mechanisms.

 The VRP8 provides plug-and-play network device management.

Multicast Protocols
 To implement a complete set of multicast services, various
multicast protocols deployed in the network need to operate
together with each other.

Multicast VPN in Rosen Mode
 Multicast VPN (MVPN) in Rosen Mode implements
multicast service transmission over MPLS/BGP VPNs.

Multicast VPN in NG MVPN Mode
 An NG MVPN uses BGP to transmit multicast protocol packets, and uses
PIM-SM, PIM-SSM, P2MP TE, or mLDP to transmit multicast data
packets. The NG MVPN enables unicast and multicast services to be
delivered using the same VPN architecture.

MPLS LDP
 The Label Distribution Protocol (LDP) is a control protocol of Multiprotocol
Label Switching (MPLS). It is like a signaling protocol on a traditional
network. RTF RTG

 Traffic engineering techniques are common for carriers operating
IP/MPLS bearer networks. These techniques are used to prevent traffic
congestion and uneven resource allocation.

MPLS L3 VPN
 A BGP/MPLS IP VPN uses the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) to
advertise VPN routes and the Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) to
forward VPN packets on backbone networks.

VPWS
 The VPWS is an emulation of the traditional leased line service,. It
emulates the leased line over an IP network, and provides the
asymmetrical digital data network (DDN) service at low costs.

VPLS
 As an MPLS-based point-to-multipoint (P2MP) L2VPN service provided over a
public network, the virtual private LAN service (VPLS) ensures that geographically
isolated user sites can communicate over metropolitan area networks (MANs) and
wide area networks (WANs) as if they were on the same local area network (LAN).

QoS Features
 The DiffServ model consists of four QoS components. Traffic classification and re-
marking provide a basis for differentiated services. Traffic policing and shaping,
congestion management, and congestion avoidance control network traffic and
resource allocation in different ways and allow the system to provide differentiated
services.

HQoS
 Hierarchical Quality of Service (HQoS) is a technology that
uses a queue scheduling mechanism to guarantee the
bandwidth of multiple services of multiple users in the
DiffServ model.

BFD (Bi-direction Forwarding Detect: draft-ietf-bfd-v4v6-1hop-02.txt ).

Default 10ms intermission, failure will be discovered in 3x intermission time.

Each datagram of BFD will not exceed 100 Bytes, Thus, occupied
bandwidth will be 78Bytes×100/s×8bit/Byte=624000bit/s=60.9Kbps.

Processed by NP on the line card, without the dealing of CPU on MPU.

E-VRRP
Backbone
 In Local area network ,each
host should connect with the
outer network through a Master Backup
certain gateway. Only one
gateway is insufficient to
insure the high reliability.
 Two routers configured with Virtual Router
VRRP can provide a unique
virtual gateway for all the VRRP
host in LAN.
 Huawei Co.Ltd.utilizes BFD BFD
to enhance the fault
detection function in VRRP,
which is also called
enhanced VRRP(E-VRRP)

VPN FRR
 In the dual-homed CE VPN, after a PE fails, VPN fast re-
route (FRR) ensures that the VPN services from a CE are
rapidly switched to the other PE.

MPLS TE FRR
 TE FRR protects links and nodes on CR-LSPs bound to an MPLS TE
tunnel. If a link or node fails, TE FRR rapidly switches traffic to a backup
path, minimizing traffic loss.

 Enhanced Trunk (E-Trunk) is a mechanism for implementing cross-device link
aggregation. E-Trunk extends the LACP to implement link aggregation among
multiple devices. In this manner, E-Trunk improves link reliability from the board

VXLAN
 As a widely deployed core cloud computing technology, server
virtualization greatly reduces IT and O&M costs and improves service
deployment flexibility.

GMPLS UNI
 GMPLS provides a unified control plane for the IP layer and
transport layer. In this manner, the network architecture is
simplified, the network management cost is reduced, and the
network performance is optimized.
