2 About Exstream
This section provides an overview of Exstream 21.3.
Exstream is a Customer Communications Management (CCM) platform that allows users to deliver
the next generation of personalized, connected customer communications. It provides the following
overall capabilities:

• Creating well designed, highly personalized invoices, statements, and other types of enterprise
communications.
• Streamlining document-intensive business processes and automating document processing.
• Consolidating, producing, and delivering customized communications when and where you want
them in paper or electronic format.

Exstream 21.3 Release Notes

4
• Enabling line of business users to design documents and communications, add messages, and
include targeted content on any type of enterprise document.
• Multi-tenant runtime support for customer communications environments, providing secure
separation of tenant data and configuration.
• Open platform with strong support for source data connectivity, formats and protocols allowing
you to easily and rapidly connect communication generation capabilities to existing business
applications.
• High performance and scalable architecture.

3 New features
Exstream 21.3 includes the following overall new features. The features described are incremental
changes made since Exstream 16.6.3

3.1 Retouch
The following features have been added for the updated 21.3 version of ReTouch:

• It is now possible to limit the resources available to the ReTouch user to only a list of resources
defined in StoryBoard, similarly to the functionality in StreamServe 5.6.2.
• The Exstream Migrator supports all of the 5.6.2 settings and restores them in Exstream 21.3

3.2 Workshop
The Tenantadmin can now set permissions on the configuration resource view in Workshop. This can
be beneficial when importing custom role, and you want them to acquire permissions to imported
resources.

3.3 Document Broker

Programmatic indexing of dynamic tables has resulted in performance improvement for Document
Broker repositories when using SQL Server.

Note: This feature is limited to Microsoft SQL Server

3.4 Support for Windows Kerberos Authentication on Microsoft

SQL Server
Kerberos authentication is supported when managing communication server related repositories
(exposed by Control Center). The general application connectivity can also use Kerberos
authentication.

For more information see the following Knowledge Base articles: KB17734092 (opentext.com)
Kerberos configuration and KB17733879 (opentext.com) Exstream settings for Kerberos support.

Exstream 21.3 Release Notes

5
Support limitation: This has only been validated with Microsoft SQL Server and Communication
Server. It has not been validated for the Exstream Engine, Content Author, Designer, or Design
Manager.

3.5 Support for IBM® WebSphere® MQ 9.1

MQ Series v 9.1 is now supported with TLS and authentication.

4 Discontinued and deprecated features

There are no new Deprecated features in Exstream (Server-Based) 21.3 compared with 16.6 Update
3. However, the features listed below were deprecated in 16.6.0. Deprecated features are still
supported but can be removed in the next version.

Special note on the Communications Server Preview Server

The PreviewServer.exe that can be used with the StreamServe External Viewer connector is no
longer shipped in the Exstream Server-Based version 21.x. Customers with StreamServe 5.6.2 and
earlier that are upgrading to this release can continue to use the 5.6.2 version of the PreviewServer
standalone executable/service. This is done by connecting it to the Exstream Server-Based 21.x
version of the StreamServe External Viewer connector in Communications Server. This is supported
while StreamServe version 5.6.2 is on current maintenance and until a replacement alternative is
announced in a coming release.

4.1 Deprecated features and supported platforms

The following features are deprecated. They are still available and supported but will be discontinued
in a coming release. We recommend you begin the process of transitioning to alternative Exstream
features that support the same use cases.

• Support for RFID output in PageOUT will be removed in a future release.

• Using Tomcat as an application server. With the introduction of web server support with Apache
and NGINX, we recommend you plan to transition to a supported web server instead of Tomcat.
Tomcat is still supported in version 21.3 but can be discontinued in the next release.
• Vista Plus Output Management (VPOM) connector. Although this connector is still supported, we
recommend moving to Output Server, and using the Output Server connector instead of the
VPOM connector.
• Operating Systems:
o Microsoft® Windows Server® 2012 R
o Microsoft® Windows 8 (64-bit)

Exstream 21.3 Release Notes

6
o Microsoft® Windows 8.1 (64-bit)
o RHEL 7.7 (ends August 30, 2021; Final RHEL 7 EUS Release)
o SUSE® Linux® Enterprise Server 12
• Database vendors:
o SAP HANA 1.0
o PostgreSQL 10 and 11.
o Microsoft® SQL Server® 2016
• Browsers
o Microsoft® Internet Explorer® 11
Note: Internet Explorer 11 is discontinued in Exstream 21.3 Update 1 and later. The
reasons are that for security reasons the Angular update is incompatible with this browser
and that the browser has reached EOL in June 2022.
• 3rd party applications
o IBM® WebSphere® MQ 8.x
• OpenText products
o OpenText Directory Services (OTDS) v 16
o OpenText Content Server (OTCS) v16
o OpenText Media Management (OTMM) v16

Service Gateway SOAP web services

• The SOAP Web Service APIs are deprecated and will be removed in a future release. You should
transition to the new REST APIs, which are documented on developer.opentext.com or available
via the local Swagger UI. You can access the Swagger UI from:
http://<sgwhost>:2719/api/index.html where <sgwhost> is the service gateway host.

4.2 Discontinued features and supported platforms

• The TrustWeaver OnDemand filters: TWOD Signature Filter and TWOD Validation Filter are no
longer supported in 16.6.0, 16.6.1, 16.6.2, 16.6.3 and 21.3. You should use the new TWOD
Corroborate Filter. The TWOD Signature and Validation filters use an old communication endpoint
that stopped working at the end of calendar year 2019.
• Beginning with Exstream version 16.4 Update 1, the Design and Production installation directory
contains only the double-byte character set (DBCS) version of the Database Administrator utility
(DBAdmin.exe, which replaces DBAdmin_dbcs.exe). The single-byte character set (SBCS)
version of the DBAdmin utility is not supplied, and Design and Production no longer provides the
ability to convert SBCS databases to the DBCS data structure.
• Oracle® 11g R2 support is discontinued from Design Manager.
• Oracle® 12c and 18c R2 have reached EOL and are discontinued from Exstream Platform.
• Microsoft® SQL Server® 2014 have reached Mainstream End Date and is discontinued from
Exstream Platform.

All Exstream applications are supported on the base operating
systems listed above, regardless of the vendor or version of
the virtual environment. If an issue is encountered relating to
the normal operation of any Exstream application while
Virtual environments running within a virtualized environment, Exstream customer
support is only obligated to attempt to reproduce the issue on
the same base operating system. If the issue cannot be
reproduced on the same base operating system, OpenText
support will request that the issue be referred to the vendor of
the virtualization software for further investigation.
Exstream (Server-Based) 21.3 works on Azure Cloud system
Microsoft® Azure® on the supported operating systems and databases vendor
versions listed above.

Exstream 21.3 Release Notes

14
Application Support information
Similar to virtual environments, all Exstream applications are
supported on the base operating systems listed above. If an
issue is encountered relating to the normal operation of any
Exstream application while running within a Docker container,
customer support is only obligated to attempt to reproduce an
issue on the same base operating system. If the issue cannot
be reproduced on the same base operating system, OpenText
support will request that the issue should be resolved by the
vendor of the containerization software.

Note: Node-locked licenses for the Exstream production

engine cannot be used with Docker containers. To run in a
Docker container, customers are required to use Engine-
Docker containers based floating licenses or transactional Engine-based floating
licenses (“Floating Server licenses”) with a separate Windows-
based License Server.

When using Docker with Floating Server licenses, be aware

the Exstream software treats each running Docker container
as equivalent to a Server, regardless of whether containers
are deployed on the same Docker host server. In this scenario,
please ensure you have sufficient Floating Server licenses to
meet your operational requirements. Performance
characteristics for Docker containers will differ from physical or
virtual machine servers.

7 Installation and upgrade notes
This section provides additional installation and upgrade information, including related or third-party
product information and any required critical patches.

7.1 Installation notes

Before you install Exstream, review these additional installation notes and verify related product or
third-party product requirements.

• A supported database must be available (see the Supported systems section for the details).
• OpenText Directory Services must be accessible.
• A supported web server must be available for the web applications. It is recommended that the
webapps be deployed in the provided Nginx webserver (inbuilt). Please note that Tomcat is
deprecated for the Exstream web applications.
Note: The procedures for making new installations or automating installations can be
simplified by using the Bootstrap installation scripts. For more information about how to use
these scripts, see Exstream Automated Installation and Deployment Guide.
In this release, OpenText is not delivering the Bootstrap with the prerequisites (Tomcat,
OTDS, and PostgreSQL). It is recommended you install non-deprecated software. Disregard
the prerequisites sections of the Exstream Automated Installation and Deployment Guide. It is
recommended that you install OTDS and your database vendor prior to the bootstrap
installation.

Changes in Exstream installation and upgrade procedure in 16.6

7.1.1.1 Web applications delivered as ZIP files

• Starting with Exstream 16.6.0, Exstream supports running the Content Author and
Communications Designer web applications on a Java application server or a web server. To
allow for this change, the web applications are now delivered as ZIP files rather than WAR files.
The ZIP files can still be renamed to WAR files for deployment on Apache Tomcat. For information
about the supported Java application server and web server vendors and versions, see
“Supported environments and compatibility” section above.

See Installation and upgrading in Exstream: What’s new in 16.6.1 Guide.

Port Monitor setup available for Exstream 16

You can find the Port Monitor setup in the “Add-ons (Release Independent)” folder. It can be installed
along with all 16.x versions or standalone.

7.2 Upgrade notes

Important
• Before upgrading to the Exstream Server-Based 21.3 from a StreamServe 5.x
environment you should apply the latest available hotfix build of StreamServe 5.6.2
and use that to package your projects for upgrade. This will ensure that certain
issues with internal Design Center project keys are handled before upgrading.
• If you are using a single-byte character set (SBCS) database and are upgrading
Exstream from a version of Design and Production earlier than 8.0, you must first
upgrade to a version between 8.0 and 16.4.0, and then convert all of your SBCS
databases to the double-byte character set (DBCS). If you are upgrading to the
current version of Exstream from 8.0 or later, or if you are using a DBCS database
from an earlier version of Exstream, then there are no additional upgrade
considerations for your database. For more information about upgrading SBCS
databases, see Installation and Upgrade Information in Design and Production
documentation.

8 Patches
A patch is a piece of software that is designed to fix or improve a computer program or its supporting
data. These may include repairs to security vulnerabilities or resolution of bugs and may improve
usability or performance. On OpenText My Support you will find two general types of patches.
Hotfixes are also known as quick-fixes or bug fixes. Updates are also known as service packs or
service releases.

8.1 Updates
Updates consist of a number of fixes combined into a single patch. An update may also include new
features proactively introduced into the product.

• Exstream (Server-Based) 21.3 Build 16.6.4.327 is available as a patch, as well as a full install.
That means, if you have previously installed the 16.6.0 GA release, the 16.6 Update 1 GA
release, the 16.6 Update 2 GA release, or the 16.6 Update 3 GA release, you are able to update
that environment by applying the Exstream (Server-Based) 21.3 (Hotfix) installer. This installer is
available on the Exstream Patches -> Patch 21.3 (Server-Based) folder on My Support.

Exstream 21.3 Release Notes

19
• When installing hotfix builds, follow the instructions in Exstream System Administration, which
describe how to install a hotfix. In particular, review the manual steps needed to apply a hotfix to
the tenant repository.

Note: The following files are overwritten with the 21.3 default configuration. If you have
customized these files, please backup your customized files so you can restore them after
running the hotfix setup. The hotfix setup backs up the configuration files to the following
directory:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\StreamServe\Hotfix_backup_buildnr_XXX
• configuration for odbc—that is, if you have customized for running in secure mode in
<ExstreamInstallationDirectory>\Exstream\16.6\Server
\global\repositoryodbcproviders.xml
\solutions\management\mgwconnections.xml
• The template of the repositorymanager.xml and threadmanager.xml in
C:\Program Files\OpenText\Exstream\16.6\Server
\solutions\management\config\16.6\STRSCS
\solutions\management\config\16.6\STRSSG

Issue number Issue description

EXSFOUR-20782 beginattachment and endattachment scenario is not working with Easylink

EXSFOUR-12072 ICCS: Resources that are included in the Content Server synchronized Theme, which are
subsequently deleted in ICCS/ReTouch documents, re-appear in documents following a regenerate
action. Workaround – 1) Remove the resource from the Theme, 2) check-in, approve and re-
publish the Theme, 3) Synchronize the new Theme version in Content Server. The resource can
now be manually added by the ReTouch user to subsequent documents, subsequent deletions of
the resource will not re-appear on regenerated documents.

EXSFOUR-25546 Easy Link connector triggers email even with empty “To” address

EXSFOUR-24916 Font difference with the Japanese characters in the output PDF compared to original input PDF

EXSFOUR-25400 After changing the description of published theme, it is changing to unpublished state

EXSFOUR-16735 SimpleRESTClient: Failed to connect cURL HTTP client error is shown in the application log when
archiver server repository with secure channel profile is linked to domain
Workaround for this issue by using Certificates from <Exstream program
folder>\16.6\Server\global\security\certificatestore\trusted\authorities can be copied to the
applications “authorities” folder e.g.,
C:\ManagementGateway\16.6\root\applications\CS1\Dev\security\certificatestore\trusted\authorities.
The issue is happening when all the profiles are enumerated while looking out for the Archive
Server repository profile.

EXSFOUR-35731 The implementation of the stored variable functionality introduced in 16.0 that can be used by the
script function “addstoredvariables”, will have as a side effect that the $ character will not be
interpreted as a string if it used as a variable value.
