2 About Exstream
This section provides an overview of Exstream 21.3.
Exstream is a Customer Communications Management (CCM) platform that allows users to deliver
the next generation of personalized, connected customer communications. It provides the following
overall capabilities:
• Creating well designed, highly personalized invoices, statements, and other types of enterprise
communications.
• Streamlining document-intensive business processes and automating document processing.
• Consolidating, producing, and delivering customized communications when and where you want
them in paper or electronic format.
3 New features
Exstream 21.3 includes the following overall new features. The features described are incremental
changes made since Exstream 16.6.3
3.1 Retouch
The following features have been added for the updated 21.3 version of ReTouch:
• It is now possible to limit the resources available to the ReTouch user to only a list of resources
defined in StoryBoard, similarly to the functionality in StreamServe 5.6.2.
• The Exstream Migrator supports all of the 5.6.2 settings and restores them in Exstream 21.3
3.2 Workshop
The Tenantadmin can now set permissions on the configuration resource view in Workshop. This can
be beneficial when importing custom role, and you want them to acquire permissions to imported
resources.
For more information see the following Knowledge Base articles: KB17734092 (opentext.com)
Kerberos configuration and KB17733879 (opentext.com) Exstream settings for Kerberos support.
The PreviewServer.exe that can be used with the StreamServe External Viewer connector is no
longer shipped in the Exstream Server-Based version 21.x. Customers with StreamServe 5.6.2 and
earlier that are upgrading to this release can continue to use the 5.6.2 version of the PreviewServer
standalone executable/service. This is done by connecting it to the Exstream Server-Based 21.x
version of the StreamServe External Viewer connector in Communications Server. This is supported
while StreamServe version 5.6.2 is on current maintenance and until a replacement alternative is
announced in a coming release.
The setups are available in the Platform folder on MySupport for Exstream (Server-Based) 21.3.

IMPORTANT: This section gives an overview for supported environments and compatibility. For
Exstream Design and Production components, please also review the specific Release Notes for
those components.
Supported operating systems for the Exstream design and desktop tools environment
Note: Microsoft® Windows 7 is only supported for Design Manager and Designer.
Note: For additional operating systems supported by Exstream Design and Production, see
OpenText Exstream Design and Production Release Notes.
Supported databases
6.1.2.1 Supported databases for the Exstream platform.
For more information, see OpenText Exstream Design and Production Release Notes.
Exstream (Server-Based) 21.3 allows the following web applications to run directly on a Web server
without Java dependencies.
Running Exstream with unsecured HTTP is not supported since HTTP is deprecated and Exstream is
not designed for unsecured HTTP connections.
Directory servers
Note: OTDS is mandatory for the Exstream platform.
All minor releases of the stated major versions are
supported.
Note: For the latest compatibility information for OpenText products, refer to the Compatibility
Matrix (https://knowledge.opentext.com/go/matrix) on OpenText My Support.

(Localization done
in version 16.6.0)
• A supported database must be available (see the Supported systems section for the details).
• OpenText Directory Services must be accessible.
• A supported web server must be available for the web applications. It is recommended that the
webapps be deployed in the provided Nginx webserver (inbuilt). Please note that Tomcat is
deprecated for the Exstream web applications.
Note: The procedures for making new installations or automating installations can be
simplified by using the Bootstrap installation scripts. For more information about how to use
these scripts, see Exstream Automated Installation and Deployment Guide.
In this release, OpenText is not delivering the Bootstrap with the prerequisites (Tomcat,
OTDS, and PostgreSQL). It is recommended you install non-deprecated software. Disregard
the prerequisites sections of the Exstream Automated Installation and Deployment Guide. It is
recommended that you install OTDS and your database vendor prior to the bootstrap
installation.
• Starting with Exstream 16.6.0, Exstream supports running the Content Author and
Communications Designer web applications on a Java application server or a web server. To
allow for this change, the web applications are now delivered as ZIP files rather than WAR files.
The ZIP files can still be renamed to WAR files for deployment on Apache Tomcat. For information
about the supported Java application server and web server vendors and versions, see
“Supported environments and compatibility” section above.
Important
• Before upgrading to the Exstream Server-Based 21.3 from a StreamServe 5.x
environment you should apply the latest available hotfix build of StreamServe 5.6.2
and use that to package your projects for upgrade. This will ensure that certain
issues with internal Design Center project keys are handled before upgrading.
• If you are using a single-byte character set (SBCS) database and are upgrading
Exstream from a version of Design and Production earlier than 8.0, you must first
upgrade to a version between 8.0 and 16.4.0, and then convert all of your SBCS
databases to the double-byte character set (DBCS). If you are upgrading to the
current version of Exstream from 8.0 or later, or if you are using a DBCS database
from an earlier version of Exstream, then there are no additional upgrade
considerations for your database. For more information about upgrading SBCS
databases, see Installation and Upgrade Information in Design and Production
documentation.
8 Patches
A patch is a piece of software that is designed to fix or improve a computer program or its supporting
data. These may include repairs to security vulnerabilities or resolution of bugs and may improve
usability or performance. On OpenText My Support you will find two general types of patches.
Hotfixes are also known as quick-fixes or bug fixes. Updates are also known as service packs or
service releases.
8.1 Updates
Updates consist of a number of fixes combined into a single patch. An update may also include new
features proactively introduced into the product.
• Exstream (Server-Based) 21.3 Build 16.6.4.327 is available as a patch, as well as a full install.
That means, if you have previously installed the 16.6.0 GA release, the 16.6 Update 1 GA
release, the 16.6 Update 2 GA release, or the 16.6 Update 3 GA release, you are able to update
that environment by applying the Exstream (Server-Based) 21.3 (Hotfix) installer. This installer is
available on the Exstream Patches -> Patch 21.3 (Server-Based) folder on My Support.
Note: The following files are overwritten with the 21.3 default configuration. If you have
customized these files, please backup your customized files so you can restore them after
running the hotfix setup. The hotfix setup backs up the configuration files to the following
directory:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\StreamServe\Hotfix_backup_buildnr_XXX
• configuration for odbc—that is, if you have customized for running in secure mode in
<ExstreamInstallationDirectory>\Exstream\16.6\Server
\global\repositoryodbcproviders.xml
\solutions\management\mgwconnections.xml
• The template of the repositorymanager.xml and threadmanager.xml in
C:\Program Files\OpenText\Exstream\16.6\Server
\solutions\management\config\16.6\STRSCS
\solutions\management\config\16.6\STRSSG
• customization for the managementgateway, in regard to the threads and pools in
mgw-repositorymanager.xml and mgw-threadmanager.xml in

EXSFOUR-12072 ICCS: Resources that are included in the Content Server synchronized Theme, which are
subsequently deleted in ICCS/ReTouch documents, re-appear in documents following a regenerate
action. Workaround – 1) Remove the resource from the Theme, 2) check-in, approve and re-
publish the Theme, 3) Synchronize the new Theme version in Content Server. The resource can
now be manually added by the ReTouch user to subsequent documents, subsequent deletions of
the resource will not re-appear on regenerated documents.

applications “authorities” folder e.g.,
C:\ManagementGateway\16.6\root\applications\CS1\Dev\security\certificatestore\trusted\authorities.
The issue is happening when all the profiles are enumerated while looking out for the Archive
Server repository profile.
EXSFOUR-35731 The implementation of the stored variable functionality introduced in 16.0 that can be used by the
script function “addstoredvariables”, will have as a side effect that the $ character will not be
interpreted as a string if it used as a variable value.
