GLASS AND BRITTLE POLICY

AIM: Prevention of Glass and Brittle material contamination of products.


BACKGROUND: Glass and Brittle materials contamination of our product is regarded as a major
problem on Food product safety.
In other to protect our consumers and ourselves from hazards presented by broken glasses and
brittle materials, we have taken all reasonable precautions to prevent such incidents.
There are various sources of Glass and Brittle materials contamination, such as inclusion in raw
materials, breakage of windows and light fittings, optical glasses and work wears with glass
components.
The objective of this policy is to embed preventive Quality Assurance and Good Manufacturing
Practices to ensure that risks of such contamination are minimized through design and other
sources.
GLASS AND BRITTLE RULES

 Containers or articles made of glass such as tumblers, mugs, watches, etc.) Are not
allowed in the plant (factory floor- oil mill, SEP, filter room and crystallizers in the
refinery).
 Cracks or breakages of sight glasses must be reported immediately for documentation.
 Finished products or semi-finished products containing glass debris MUST be rejected
when detected.
 All fluorescence and other lightening tubes in the plant MUST be covered with glass
covers.
 Incoming pallets with broken glasses detected on them SHOULD be rejected and
reported immediately.
 All inspection lamps must have adequate protection for the bulbs to prevent product
contamination in case of breakage.
 Glass register shall be maintained and updated as required.
Note: Recontamination of other containers by glass debris from cleaning activities must
be prevented at all times.
