Objective Life Processes
1.5a. The student will investigate and understand that animals, including humans,
have basic needs and certain distinguishing characteristics.
Key concepts include a) basic needs include adequate air, food, water, shelter, and
space (habitat)
In this activity, my students are going to use Desyner to create a vision board of an
animal’s habitat.
Pedagogy Planning
Activity
1. Students will watch the YouTube video What is a Habitat? to showcase
different animal habitats. We will pause the video after each habitat to
discuss different animals that live in those habitats/common characteristics
they have.
2. Students will get to discuss the differences they see between types of
animals and what characteristics the animal has that make them suitable for
that habitat from what we learn in the video.
3. Discussion Prompt Questions: How do they look (fur/scales)? Do they swim?
Fly? Walk? What do they eat? Do they like it cold or warm?
4. Students will be able to answer: what is a habitat? Air, food, water, shelter,
and space an animal needs to live
5. Students will be able to answer: what makes up their (a human’s) habitat?
Food, water, a place to live, their own room or bed, etc.
6. Students will use Desygner to make a vision board to create and label a
habitat with all the things their animal would need to live and one animal
that would NOT live in that environment. Students will pick an animal from a
pre-set list to create a habitat for.

A mobile app alternative (without the pay walls) may be to use something like
Pinterest and have them create a Pinterest board of that animal.
