In this activity, my students are going to use Canva to create a mental
health awareness poster.

easier if they number the action
in order and think of this from the
view of a substitute teacher. This
lesson was left on the desk, can
you follow it and teach the class

9.1 The student will apply health knowledge
and skills to achieve and maintain
long-term health and wellness.
P) Identify signs and symptoms of
mental illnesses or challenges (e.g., anxiety,
depression, suicide, eating disorders, and self-harm
behaviors).
1. For the last health days in April,
students will be introduced to mental
illnesses such as types of anxiety and
depression, what are suicidal
thoughts / where to get help, and
different types of eating disorders.
2. Students will be shown varios videos,
read some articles, and even take a
mental health test for themselves.
3. On April 21st, students will watch this
YouTube video to get a better
introduction to mental health

over this article to discuss suicide
prevention

also watch this video on eating
disorders

Students will then end the class with
taking a youth mental health test

4. On april 25th, students will have the
opportunity to choose a mental illness
to complete an awareness poster on.
This can be something we learned
about in class, or one of their own
choices (pre approved by the teacher
first). Students must also write their
name and mental illness on the
signup sheet, no more than 2 people
per topic.
5. The poster must include the name of
mental illness, symptoms of that
illness, ways to prevent it / seek help,
and a hotline number if applicable.
Students must also make sure to add
some pictures and / or color into their
posters, no plain backgrounds.
6. Posters will be due in Canvas on May
2nd. Students will need to save their
poster as an image to their device,
and then attach that image in the
Canvas submission box. Students will
also have the choice of having their
poster hung in the school, if they are
interested they should leave a
comment under the assignment
submission so their poster can be
printed!.
For this assignment, students will be using
Canva. Students should select posters, create
your own, and they can work from there! They
will be able to add color, pictures, textboxes,
and more.
