Introduction:

Crease is a fold in fabric introduced unintentionally some

stages of processing. Crease or crushing of textile
material is a complex effect involving tensile, compressive,
flexing and tensional stresses. Crease recovery is a fabric
properly which indicates the ability of fabric to go wear is
not a change in appearance that is generally desired. The
ability of fabric to resist creasing is in the first instance
dependent on the type of fiber used in its construction.
Some of fiber type such as wool and cultivated silk has a
good resistance to creasing whereas cellulosic martial
such as cotton, viscose and linen have a very poor
resistance to creasing.

Objective:
1. To know about crease property.
2. To know about crease resistance and recovery.
3. To know about crease recovery tester
4. To know how to determine crease recovery of fabric
by crease recovery tester.

Raw Materials
 Cotton fabric
 Polyester fabric
Apparatus:
 Scissor
 Template
 Crease recovery tester
 Glass plates
 Electronic balance
 Weigh

Atmosphere:
Temperature 29̊c
Relative Humidity – 63%

Method: ISO 2313:1972

Working procedure:
1. The specimen fabric cut by template(4×1.5)cm and
carefully folded in half
2. The creases is important on fabric by placing in
between to plates and adding 1000 gm weight on it
3. After 1 minute the weight is removed from the
creased fabric is attached by the clamp of the
instrument.
4. Then it is allowed to recover from the crease the
recovery time may be very to particular crease
5. When crease recover the dial of the instrument is
rotated to keep the free edge of the sample in line
with the knife edge
6. The recovery angle is read from the engraved scale.
7. In this way 10 tests are done in warp way and 10 for
weft way.
8. The main value of recovery angle is taken and thus
crease recovery is measured

Data collection:
Sample: 1. Crease recovery for cotton fabric in warp way
Observation Value(Degree) Average(Degree)
1 142
2 140
2 139 140
4 141
5 140

2. Crease recovery for cotton fabric in weft way.

Observation Value(Degree) Average(Degree)
1 140
2 138
3 141 139.6
4 139
5 140
3.Crease recovery for polyester fabric in warp way.
Observation Value(Degree) Average(Degree)
1 144
2 143
3 141 143
4 147
5 140

4. Crease recovery for polyester fabric in weft way.

Observation Value(Degree) Average(Degree)
1 150
2 148
3 145 148
4 147
5 149

Result and Discussion:

1. Crease recovery for cotton fabric in warp way is 140
degree.
2. Crease recovery for cotton fabric in weft way is 139
degree.
3. Crease recovery for polyester fabric in warp way is
143 degree.
4. Crease recovery for polyester fabric in weft way is
148 degree.
 We know that if the angle is 0̊ then recovery is zero
and if the angle is 180̊ then recovery is full. So here
from the sample we can see that for Polyester fabric
Crease recovery is better than cotton fabric.

Precaution:
Crease recovery tester machine has to be operated
with great care.
Will try to cut the fabric correctly.

Conclusion:
Crease recovery test of fabric is determined depending
upon the recovery angle. This experiment is very helpful in
our future life. So we study very carefully this experiment.
