The sun has set, and the pond is still. Nell and Fido
stand and look at the ducks. Nell is a small girl with a

back. Fido takes Nell’s doll in his mouth. “Stop!” Nell
yells. She chases Fido. Fido drops the doll in the pond.
The biggest duck looks at the doll. The biggest duck
looks at Nell. The biggest duck brings the doll back to
Nell. Nell says, “Thank You!” Fido barks. The big duck
quacks.
