Intellectual Property (IP)

• Intellectual property is a property that arises from the


human creation.
• IP can be categorised into:
➢ Literary and artistic works – books, paintings, musical
compositionsm plays, movies, radio and tv programs,
performances and artistic works (protect by
copyright).
➢ Industrial property – product of an idea or concept for
commercial purposes (protect by trademark, patent).

IP can be protected by:


• Patent – protection for industrial properties that involve
invention of process or product.
• Trademark – protection for industrial properties that
represent identity of business or product.
• Copyright – protection for literary and artistic works such
as books, paintings, music, movies and broadcasts.
• And others, such as industrial design, geographical
indication and layout design.
