JOB SAFETY ANALYSIS (JSA)

GEORGE DAHDAH AIRPORT PROJECT.

REQUIRED PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Slip Resistant Shoes or Slip Resistant Ladder Rungs.
Gloves, Safety Glasses, & Dust Mask for use in jobs as specified by the supervisor.

SEQUENCE OF JOB STEPS POTENTIAL HAZARD HAZARD CONTROL


Carrying the ladder to the work area. Muscle Pull/Strain Use Proper Lift & Carry Techniques:
 Ask for help if the ladder is too heavy.
 Bend at the knees and lift the ladder with your
leg muscles instead of your back muscles.
 Limit turning and twisting motions while
carrying the ladder. This may cause a back
injury.
Visual/Manual inspection of the ladder before use. Cuts/Punctures/Scrapes. Inspect the ladder by checking the following items:
Muscle Pull/Strain. (Discussed in Title 1)  Check for loose or bent ladder rungs and
missing parts.
 Ensure that the ladder is suitable for the
employee by checking the duty rating sticker
 Check if ladder is clean, free of oil, mud, or any
other slippery materials to prevent slips and
falls. Wear slip-resistant shoes at all times.
 Check for protruding screws, rivets, broken
metal, and other metal parts that can cause a cut
or scrape during use
Proper placement/setup of ladder prior to performing a Uneven Surface, Debris Hazards  Ensure the ladder is placed on even and compact
job task. ` Slips/Trips/Falls, Electrical Hazards surface.
 Ensure there is no debris above or near the
ladder that could pose a potential falling object
hazard
 Place the ladder in a position that is safe for you
as an employee and others
 Use a Portable Fiberglass Ladder when working
on, around, or near a possible electrical hazard

Ascending and descending ladder to complete a job task. Slips/Trips/Falls.  Wear slip resistant shoes or make sure the
ladder has slip resistant rungs.
 Always maintain three points of contact
with the ladder. (One hand/two feet, two
hands/one foot)
 Always face the ladder and keep body
centered between the side rails to maintain
balance while climbing
 Never climb on or above the 2nd rung
from the top of the ladder or sit on the top
of the ladder.
 Do not carry heavy materials up the ladder
while climbing.
 If needed, have another employee hold,
and secure the base of the ladder before
climbing
 Remove all objects/housekeeping tools
from the top of A type ladder before
climbing down.

Performing job duties while working from A type ladder. Slips/Trips/Falls, Falling Objects  In general, ladders should not be used as a
work platform, except A type ladders and
only for a short time period.
 Ensure you hold the ladder firmly with
one hand and have both feet firmly on a
ladder, then use your free hand to perform
the task
 Overreaching in front or to the side of the
ladder can cause the ladder to tip over
 Move the ladder as needed to reach
objects and perform a job task. NEVER
‘walk’ or ‘jog’ the ladder to another work
area.
 NEVER stand on or above the 2nd rung
from the top of the ladder or sit on the top
of the ladder to perform a job task.
