ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study was to determine the Mental Health issues faced
by the Senior High School students of Bukal Integrated National High School
during this time of pandemic as they approach the New Learning System of
education. An online interview was conducted through messenger to gather the
needed data. The four-item researchers-made questionnaire was made to be
distributed to ten (10) random Senior High School students. The questionnaires
contains the challenges faced by the students and if they were able to cope up
with it. Seven respondents completed the first round of the interview, additional
three respondents completed the second round of interview. The result of the
study shows that the students find it hard to adjust in the New Learning System
of education. Also, they faced different challenges including stress, anxiety,
mental breakdown, poor of internet connection, household chores and finding it
hard to answer the modules alone. Mental Health has been always an issue
especially now that the country is facing a pandemic. Thus, the researchers
realized the importance of conducting a research regarding the mental health
issues faced by the Senior High School students. There is a need to
acknowledge the challenges brought by the New Learning System as it affects
the mental stability of the students and come up with a solution to overcome it.

CHAPTER 1

The Problem and It’s Background

A. Rationale

The global impact of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) widely affects
the lives of the people around the world. It left the countries with uncertainties
about their safety. Countries are now implementing lockdowns and various health
measures such as social distancing, quarantine implementation and closure of
public places including schools. However, the challenges related to the impact of
pandemic in High Schools students’ Mental Health Issues continue to rise
beyond the phase of pandemic.

The present study is focused on how to deal with the mental health that
the students are facing during the phase of pandemic. As community quarantines
were implemented in the Philippines, following the safety health protocols,
school-based health measurements such as counseling was taken away from the
students that makes them mentally vulnerable.

The closure of the schools has negatively imparted 91% of the world’s
student population (Lee, 2020) which lead to anxiety and fear effect to
adolescents. Absence of physical structure of education such as outdoor
activities, physical activities and opportunities for socialization can lead to
boredom, disruption in routine and pessimistic mindset towards studying. Thus, it
results in growing mental health challenges for the students. (Jiao et.al., 2020).

As the New Learning System is continuously being implemented, it is

noticeable how students are having difficulties on dealing with it. The growing
number of Covid-19 cases complimented the growing numbers of students
experiencing Mental Health Issues. The researchers want to seek answer on

8
how to eliminate the Mental Health challenges brought by the Pandemic for the
Senior High School students.

There is an urgent need to pursue this research as it is being experienced

continuously that makes the way of studying very hard, thus it opens the
vulnerability of the students towards issues in mentality. Difficulties in adjusting to
the New Learning System were experienced by many. Through this study, many
people would be aware how the New Normal affects the Mental Health of the
students and the measurement and approach that the students can use to cope
up with it.

B. Statement of the Problem

The purpose of the study is to provide the Mental Health of the Senior
High School student during the time of pandemic as they encounter the
challenges brought by the New Learning System.
Specifically, it sought answers to the following questions:
1. What are the challenges on the New Learning System that the students
encounter?
2. How does the challenges affect the Mental Health of the students?
3. How does the students reacts with the New Learning System?
4. What are the ways on how the students can properly handle the challenges
brought by the New Learning System in the Mental Health of the students?
5. What is the project that can be proposed based on the results of the study?

C. Significance of the Study

This research will determine the challenges brought by the pandemic to

the Mental Health of the Senior High School Students and recommend some
ways to overcome this issue.

9
To SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. This study will educate on the
possible challenges in Mental Health that they can encounter during the
Pandemic. It will help them in preparing from possible Mental breakdowns
brought by pressure. This study will motivate them to be Mentally Healthy despite
of experiencing pressure and anxiety.

To SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS. This study will serve as clear

picture for the teacher on what the students are going through during this school
year. It will help them to be more knowledgeable about the student’s
shortcomings in life. It will enable them to consider the Mental Health of the
students when the classes are still ongoing.

To PARENTS. This study will serve as a reference for the daily behavior
of the students at home during classes. This study will encourage the parents to
always look out for their children’s Mental Capacity of Thinking. The results of
this study will be a guide for the parents on how they can approach their
sons/daughters who’s experiencing Mental Breakdowns during this pandemic.

To FUTURE RESEARCHERS. This research may serve as a guide or

basis for future researchers. The findings and recommendation of this study will
be the additional information in conceptualizing another research.

D. Scope and Delimitation of the Study

This qualitative research aims to assess the Mental Health of Senior High
School Students in this time of pandemic. According to Bhandari (2020), this kind
of research involves collecting and analyzing non-numerical data to understand
concepts, opinions or experiences. As a phenomenological study, it determines
the challenges brought by the pandemic to the mental health of senior high
school students and determine the ways on how to overcome it. This is
conducted through simple random sampling method. Thomas (2020) defined

10
this method where each number of the population has an exactly equal chance of
being selected. This research will be conducted to the 10 senior high school
HUMSS student of Bukal Integrated National High School (BINHS), S.Y. 2020-
2021.
In this qualitative research, the interview guide will serve as the main
instrument of the study. This interview guide is a researcher made instrument
based on the statement of the problem. It is composed of four (4) questions.
Objectively, interview questions are formulated to gather necessary information
about the participant's mental health issues and their coping up mechanisms.
Interviews is religiously complied to ethically follow the norms of conducting
research.
In gathering data, individualized and group discussion is employed
depending on the availability of the participants. Because of the current
pandemic, personalized interview would be impossible. This resort to the usage
of social media platforms through Messenger chat. According to Mellett (2018),
these platforms provide two way interaction for conducting a qualitative research.
Interview are recorded and transcribed and transcribed in Verbatim. Anonymily of
the participants is secured likewise with the information they will provide. In
analyzing data, Thematic Analysis is employed. It is usually applied to a set of
texts to identify common themes such as topics, ideas, and patterns of meanings
that came up repeatedly (Caulfield, 2020).

CHAPTER II

Review of Related Literature

This chapter presented conceptual literature and research literature, which

the researchers used to provide information toward the enrichment and
understanding of the study.

Mental Health of the Students During The Pandemic. According to

Felman (2020), mental health refers to cognitive, behavioral, and emotional being
of a person such as how people think, feel and behave. Emerging the research
assessment of Mental Health to the current health implication of Coronavirus
Disease 2019 (COVID-19), it is identified that there is a big possibility of
moderate-to-serve self-reported depressive and anxious symptomatology among
general public (Wang et.al.2020).

The 2019 Annual Report of the Center for Collegiate Mental Health
reported that anxiety continues to be the most common problems (62.7% of
82,685 respondents) among students who completed the Counselling Center
Assessment of Psychological Symptoms. The Pandemic possibility itself has
caused much worry, stress and grief. These stressors can caused mental health
changes for anyone and can acute symptoms to appear for people who
experience pre-existing mental health changes.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), the Coronavirus

pandemic rapidly sweeps across the world it is inducing a considerable degree of
fear, worry and concern in the population at large and among certain groups in
particular such as older adults care provides and people with underlying health
conditions. In public mental health terms main psychological impact to date is
elevated rates of stress and anxiety. But as new measures are introduced
especially quarantine and it’s effects on many people usual activities routines or

12
livelihood-level of loneliness, depression and self harm on suicidal behavior are
also expected to rise .As parts of it’s public health has worked with partners to
develop a set of new materials on the mental health and psychosocial supports
aspect of COVID-19.

The study in the Journal of Medical Research found that 71% of

students reported more stress and anxiety due to the Covid-19 outbreak and
91% reported negative impacts of the pandemic including fear and worry about
their own health of loved ones. Another study finds social isolation and loneliness
raised the risk of depression and possibly anxiety in children and teens . Reports
of depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts among older adolescents and young
adults have increased. It is significant increases anxiety substantial, increase in
depression increase in suicidal ideation and more extreme psychological
symptoms. Experts says Mental Health challenges for students of all ages are
complicated by a variety of pandemic factors.

With the global development of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)

Outbreak, the physiological issues which accompany the pandemic have rapidly
Compounded it’s public health burden (Totales et al.,2020).Emerging research
Assessing Mental Health Implications of COVID-19 has identified a heightened
prevalence of moderate-to-serve self-reported depressive and anxious
symptomatology among general public (Wang et al.,) reflecting the widespread
effects of uncertainty and health- related fears. However, the further research
investigate beyond the population level is required to understand the
individualized disruption of lives and routines as a result of COVID-19,and it’s
associated psychological impacts.

Challenges Related Mental Health of students During the Pandemic.

The Covid-19 pandemic widely affects the schools and cause some challenges
as it moved to alternative classes. However, according to an article in Child and
Adolescent Psychiatry and Mental Health (2020), anxiety, lack of peer contact

13
and reduced opportunities for stress regulation are the main concerns that may
trigger the student's Mental Health especially with those with disabilities, trauma,
experiences and existing mental health problems and migrants.

Recommendations in strengthening students’ Mental Health.

MacPhee (2020) pointed out the need to eliminate the existing mental health
issues through supporting the development of life skills promotes social
connectedness, identify students at risk and increase help seeking behaviors.
Furthermore, learning to cope up with stress or any mental health issues in a
healthy way will make you, the people you care about and those around you,
become more resilient (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2021).

14
CHAPTER III
Research Method and Procedure

This chapter presented the research method, subjects of the study, data
gathering instruments and data gathering procedure.

A. Research Method

The study applied the qualitative method of research. According to Bhandari

(2020), qualitative method is a kind of research that involves collecting and
analyzing non-numerical data to understand concepts, opinions or experiences.
This research used Phenomenological Study in which it describes the essence of
the phenomenon from the perspective of the one who experienced it (Neubauer
et.al, 2019).

B. Subject of the Study

The respondents of the study were Ten (10) Senior High School Grade 11-
HUMSS student of Bukal Integrated National High School S.Y. 2020-2021. The
researchers utilized a Random sampling technique, in order to perform a
research wherein the number of population has an equal chance of being
selected.

15
C. Data Gathering Instrument used

The data gathering instrument used by the researchers was an interview

questions made by the researchers in accordance with the problem that would
sufficient the needed information in the research.

Construction of the Interview Questions. The interview questions was

prepared by the researchers anchored on the topic related to the Mental Health
of the Senior High School students during the pandemic as they approach New
Learning System. Then, the researchers conceptualized the needed items in the
interview to answer the problem raised. The first draft of the interview questions
was submitted to the subject teacher for corrections, comments, and enrichment
of contents.

Interview Questions. The data gathered from the interview questions

were analyzed and interpret based on the given answer of the respondents. The
responses were given corresponding qualitative description as reflected on the
respondent's response.

Administration. The interview questions was distributed in the exact

target number of respondents. The researchers asked for the approval of the
respondents in answering the interview questions before sending the copies of it.

Retrieval of Data. The researchers retrieved the collected data through

Messenger Application. The results of the retrieved data were gathered and
tabulated in accordance with the themes for the given questions. Afterwards, the
data were analyzed and interpreted.

16
D. Data Gathering Procedures

The qualitative phased follow the Caulfield, J. (2020) steps in the thematic
analysis where: first, reading and familiarizing in the collected data is done to get
a thorough overview about the data collected before analyzing it.

Second, the data undergoes coding phase to highlight phrases or sentences

to describe the content. Third, after the codes were created, the next step is to
grouped and clustered the data with the similar themes. Themes are broader
than codes since you need to combine several codes to form a theme. Fourth,
the clustered themes needed to undergo reviews to make sure that the collected
themes are useful and accurate to the presentation of the data. Fifth, naming the
themes according to the significance of the theme and ways to understand the
data were conducted.

After naming the themes, the analysis of the data will be written. Thematic
Analysis requires an introduction to establish the research questions, aims and
approach. It explains and show you the analysis based on the time answered the
research question.

17
CHAPTER IV

Presentation and Analysis of Data

This chapter is concerned with the presentation and analysis of data

regarding to the Mental Health of the Senior High School students during the
pandemic as they encounter the New Learning System. It exemplifies and
highlights the challenges faced by the Senior High School students in the New
Learning approach and ways to overcome and adapt into it.

Research Question #1: How do you adjust in the New Learning System?

The following theme emerged as expressed by the participants of the

study: (1) Finding ways to answer the module with a sub-theme; (a) Self studying
and (2) Acceptance with a sub- theme; (a) Having positive mindset, (b) doing
good in answering the module.

Theme 1: Finding ways to answer the module

The students said that they were able to adjust in the New Learning
System by Self-studying. It is reflected in the following responses:

“I find ways to answer my module on my own”

“Self-studying”

“Study the modules on my own”

“Nakaka-adjust ako sa pamamagitan ng pagsasagawa ng ayos ng

module”

It is evident that the Senior High School students were still new to the New
Learning System that is being implemented in caution for the Covid-19 virus.
However, despite of being new to this kind of learning, the students were able to

18
come up with a strategy on how they can efficiently adapt to the New Learning
System.

Self-studying is defined as a learning method wherein the students are

direct studying outside the school premises without the teacher’s direct
supervision. It enables the students to take control on what they need to do and
learn by themselves in order for them to be more responsible in answering their
school activities.

Furthermore, self-studying contributes in the learning efficiency of the

students as they approach the New Learning System. According to the article in
Great Power Learning (2018), self- studiers were able to think deeply about a
certain topic and make connection with them while learning. Also, it boost the
self-esteem of the students to be more independent person who can accomplish
things without the help of others.

Theme 2: Acceptance

The students said that they were able to adjust in the New Learning
System by accepting the challenges they were about to face. It is reflected in the
following responses:

“Keep a positive focus”

“As a student it is hard for me to overcome this kind of new learning. I

have to accept it as a challenge because we can’t do anything about it. Being a
student isn’t easy for me but I need to take this as my responsibility because I
had no choice and besides, it is my obligation as a student”

“I just go with the flow”

“I just accept the fact that we can’t have a face to face learning because of
the pandemic.”

19
“Through the Modular Distance Learning”

“Self-isolation”

Everything happens in a blink of an eye. The world turns into something

that everyone did not expected to be. Neither foresee about this pandemic.
Additional to that, the New Learning System were implemented too in line with
the health protocols restriction. Thus, the students were left no choice but to
accept the fact that they would be feeling with this new system of learning.

Acceptance approaches, according to Bissett, et Al. (2017), helps reduces

the emotional reason in making decisions and actions. Through this, we can
conclude that acceptance plays a big role in adjusting on the New Learning
System of Education. It serves as the starting point of coping up with the new
system. Acceptance is a good start in adjusting and making ourselves
comfortable and flexible with the New Learning approach whilst battling with the
pandemic.

Research Question #2: What are the challenges you encounter in the New
Normal System of Learning?

The following themes emerged as expressed by the participants of the

study: (1) Poor Internet connection, (2) Household chores, and (3) Having a hard
time to understand lessons alone.

Theme #1: Poor Internet connection

According to the response of the students, poor Internet connection is one

of the major challenges they encountered in dealing with the New Learning
System. It is reflected in the following responses:

“Poor Internet connection and lack of sleep”

20
“The challenge that I encountered in New Normal System is the internet
issue”

“Inadequate time to answer the modules, household chores, noise from

the environment, lack of signal and I find it hard to understand the module on my
own”

“Sometimes the topic in the module is hard to understand and sometimes

the internet connection is poor”

“Poor Internet connection”

“Because of this new learning I encounter more challenges as a student. I

experienced to study and understand every subject on my own. I experienced
poor internet connection. And I experienced how hard it is to balanced the
modules and Household chores”

“Bad connection of internet in sending video presentation or images”

Internet had been widely used for a long time now in many aspects
especially in studying. During this time of pandemic, internet is badly in demand
for everyone as it is the only way where the students can search and find
something that can help them with their lessons and activities. Despite of being
highly in demand, poor internet connection had been always be a problem. This,
I became a challenge for the students under the New Learning System.

According to Lynch (2017), up to 70% of teachers assign homework that

requires the use of the internet. About 65% of students use the internet to
complete homework, which includes doing research, submitting assignments,
emailing teachers, and collaborating online with classmates. Thus, those
students that has no internet access or have slow internet access cannot easily
cope up with the deadlines and end up submitting incomplete outputs.

21
Theme #2: Household chores

According to the response of the students, Household chores are one of

the major challenges they encountered in dealing with the New Learning System.
It is reflected in the following responses:

“Inadequate time to answer the modules, household chores, noise from

the environment, lack of signal and I find it hard to understand the module on my
own”

“Because of this New Normal Learning, I encountered more challenges as

a student. I experienced to study hard and understand every subject on my own.
I experienced poor internet connection sometimes and I experienced how hard it
is to balanced modules and household chores”

The New Learning System only takes place inside our home meaning,
students are still responsible in their household chores despite of having school
works at home. However, it sometimes hinder the time for studying and
answering modules at home. As it happens every day, it became a challenge that
the students encountered whilst dealing with the new approach of learning.

According to the article of Rinzin (2020), out of the 396 who participated in
the UNICEF’s U-Report South Asia poll, the biggest concern for more than 100
Bhutanese youth was about not having time to study at home due to household
work during the Covid-19 pandemic. This shows how Household chores affect
the time allotted for studying.

Theme #3: Having a hard time to understand lessons alone

According to the response of the students, having a hard time to

understand the lessons alone is one of the major challenges they encountered in
dealing with the New Learning System. It is reflected in the following responses:

“Sometimes the topic in the module is hard to understand”

22
“It is hard for me to study my modules on my own way to understand what
it is all about”

“Napakahirap magsagot ng module mag-isa kasi maraming lesson na

hindi ko talaga maintindihan”

“Sometimes the topic in the module is hard to understand and sometimes

the internet connection is poor”

Studying lessons is normal for students but studying all of the lessons
alone is quite hard to do. Almost all of the students rely on the discussed lessons
of the teacher to understand the topic before, when face to face classes are still
allowed. But, as the new learning approached this school year, the government
restricted the face to face classes in caution with the rising cases of Covid-19 in
the Philippines. Thus, it results in understanding the lessons alone which became
a challenge for the students.

As stated by Kumon (2020), self-learning is an important skill as they are

the starting point for the journey through education and beyond to adulthood,
building independence and ability to progress without reliance on a teacher.
Despite of being a challenge, studying alone will be a bridge towards
independent grows of a person as a person. It allows the students to be more
responsible towards their obligation as a student and be more matured enough to
take their responsibilities.

Research Question #3: In your own perspective, how does this New
Learning System affects your Mental Health as a student?

The following themes emerged as expressed by the participants of the

study: (1) Stress, (2) Anxiety, and (3) Exhaustion.

23
Themes #1: Stress

Based from the response of the students, the New Learning System
greatly affects their Mental Health as it leads them to be stressed. It is reflected
in the following responses:

“Sobrang pag-iisip sa modules na humahantong sa stress na nakaapekto

sa akong mental health”

“It affects by having lack of sleep and it cause stress for me”

“It’s hard to understand the module so I became stressed”

“This new normal learning affects my mental health a lot. The experience
of being stressed every time that I’m doing my modules. The feeling of being
alone while doing my modules gives me headache”

“This new normal affects my mental health by having a lot of activities in

modules that I don’t understand easily, so that I became stressful”

It is evident that the students' mental health was greatly affected by the
sudden change of learning system. Thus, it triggers different mental health
problems that affect the school performance of the students.

Stress— as defined by the Merriam Webster— is a phenomenon wherein

someone experience a concern or anxiety. Hetrick et.al. (2019) pointed out that
academic-related stress can reduce academic achievement, decrease motivation
and increase the risk of school dropout. In addition, KVC Blogs (2020) give
emphasize on how academic stress leads to less well-being and a possibility of
developing anxiety or depression. Additionally, those students who experienced
mental health problem tend to have a poor level of performance for school
activities.

24
Themes #2: Anxiety

Based from the response of the students, the New Learning System
greatly affects their Mental Health as it leads them to be stressed. It is reflected
in the following responses:

“It greatly affects my mental health because I often have mental

breakdown. I also now have anxiety”

“It affects me on a way that if I don’t know the answer, I want to stop it
(answering). I experienced depression and anxiety almost every day”

Academic-related stress often leads to anxiety if it is not well taken care

of. Dealing with anxiety is harder than everyone can imagine. It affects not only
the mental health of the students but also their physical and social health, which
leads them in having a lot performance in academic stuffs.

International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards

(IBCCES) stated that one (1) in every eight (8) children has an anxiety, according
to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA). When students
experienced unnoticed anxiety, their mental health is at risk. It can lead to social
behavioral problems, poor performance and learning, poor self-care practices
and low self-esteem. When anxieties are not addressed immediately, the
symptoms can worsen creating a viscous cycle that the students are
experiencing now.

Theme 3: Exhaustion

Based from the response of the students, the New Learning System
greatly affects their Mental Health as it leads them to be exhausted. It is reflected
in the following responses:

“Laging pagod”

25
“It greatly affects my mental health because I often have mental
breakdown. I also now have anxiety”

Exhaustion is a feeling that always been with us even during the face to
face classes. Having 8 subjects to study for a day is tiring and energy draining for
everyone. However, learning from home didn’t lessen the exhaustion that
everyone felt. Ironically, studying at home, with no one to teach you, is mentally
exhausting.

According to Villines (2020), one must practice mindfulness and making

environmental changes either at work at home to relieve mental exhaustion.
Being able to find the appropriate flexible learning or strategies for yourself is an
important key in making you studies easier. It will lessen the burden and
uncertainty in the student's mind. Thus, it will boost someone's eagerness to
finish their task without having negative thoughts and cramming.

Research Question #4: Were you able to overcome the challenges you
encounter while studying in a normal way of learning?

A. if yes, how did you overcome these challenges?

B. If no, what do you think you need to overcome these

challenges?

The following themes emerged as expressed by the participants of the

study: (1) Yes with a sub- themes (a) Seeking help from elders, (b) Trusting
yourself and your capabilities, (2) No with a sub-theme (a) overthinking.

Theme #1: Yes

Majority of the respondents agreed that they were able to overcome the
challenges that they encountered in the New Learning System with their different
strategies and beliefs to overcome it. It is reflected in the following responses:

26
(A) Seeking help from elders

It was stated by the respondents that they were able to overcome the
challenges brought by the pandemic through the help of the elders. It is reflected
in the following responses:

“I overcome this kind of challenges by the help of my family, friends, and also
our mighty God”

“I overcome these challenges by knowing that I am not alone because I have

my family and friends who will help me”

“Yes, I was able to overcome these challenges because topic in module is

explained by the elders very well”

In this time of pandemic where we live in a completely different life from the
previous one, it is hard to say that everyone has already cope up with it.
However, some also find solution to make themselves better and more
comfortable with the current situation. As stated by the respondents, they were
able to cope up with the New Learning System because they gain strengths from
the elders who can help them.

Kumon (2020) stated that encouraging and helping the children to do their
works enable them to gain a better understanding of what they are best at and
what they need to work on. In addition, the strategy of talking to the child about
the lessons that they need to study boost the comprehension and determination
of the students to do better.

(B) Trusting yourself and your capabilities

It was stated by the respondents that they were able to overcome the
challenges brought by the pandemic by trusting yourself and your capabilities.. It
is reflected in the following responses:

27
“Yes, I was able to overcome these challenges by studying hard, trusting
yourself, know your priority and have faith on God”

“Yes, kasi ginagawa ko ang akong makakaya para matapos ang module”

“Yes, by managing my responsibilities efficiency”

“Tiwala sa sarili at sa panginoon.”

The students came up with a realization that in order to succeed their journey
to the New Learning System, having trust to yourself and to your capabilities is
necessary.

Legg (2018) pointed out that self-acceptance can help someone to build their
confidence, allowing others to trust one person more, and make the process of
decision making much easier. To trust yourself, all you need is to make a little
effort, create self-love, and find the ability to look inward. The respondents
incorporated this value and moral to stay positive in every situation that at in.

Theme 2: No

Two of the respondents disagreed that they were able to overcome the
challenges that they encountered in the New Learning System. It is reflected in
the following responses:

A. Overthinking

It was stated by the respondents that they weren’t able to overcome

the challenges brought by the pandemic because of overthinking. It is
reflected in the following responses:

“No, I need to take things easily and I should stop myself from thinking I
must do everything perfectly.”
“I think no, but I have to continue this kind of learning for my dreams”

28
Despite of having a successful coping up mechanism for the majority of
the respondents, some are still having a hard time to cope up with kind of
learning modality. Two out of the Ten respondents answered that they weren’t
able to overcome the challenges brought by the New Learning System in this
time of Pandemic because they tend to overthink about their current situation.

Hasan (2019) pointed out that overthinking focuses on the negative—

rehashing the past, dwelling on bad experiences or worrying about the future.
Overthinking impairs the stability of our mind to function properly as it blocks the
positive thoughts in our head. Thus, it results slacking of the students in doing
their modules, as they were less motivated to do the work.

Proposed Study

From the study, the researchers found out that most of the Senior High

School students struggle with different mental health problems as they approach

the New Learning System. Because of this, the researchers came up with an

idea to create a video campaign containing the significance of being aware from

the mental health problems caused by the New Learning System of Education

during the time of pandemic.

Through this proposed study, the researchers can spread awareness in

every Senior High School students who are experiencing mental health issues

that their feelings and emotions are valid. It contains the challenges brought by

the New Learning System in the Mental Health of the students and ways to cope

up with it.

29
CHAPTER 5
Conclusions and Recommendations

This chapter presented the conclusions and recommendations of the study.

A. Conclusions

Based from the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn:

1. Senior High School students find it hard to adjust in the New System of
Learning in using Modular Distance Learning.

2. The students were caught up with different challenges such as poor signal
connection, difficulties to understand the lessons alone and household chores
impeding the time for studying that they needed to face in order to cope up in the
New Learning System.

3. The mental health of the Senior High School students was at risk as they
experienced different mental health problems such as Stress and Anxiety.

4. Despite of having a lot of difficulties and challenges, the students were able
to overcome all of it through seeking help from elders and trusting yourself and
your capabilities.

5. The proposed study is necessary in promoting mental health awareness to

the students.

30
B. Recommendations

From the findings and conclusion of the study, the following

recommendations are offered:

1. Find ways to study individually such as self-studying will help in coping

in the New Learning System.

2. Acquire internet access with good signal strength and find ways on how
the students can finish their household chores earlier than expected.

3. Never put yourself in the pressure of the modules, study and learn on
your own pace.

4. Seek help from the elders who can help you in understanding the
lessons and trusting yourself in the process of learning.

5. Be Aware through a video campaign that shows the significance of the

possible impact of the New Learning System in the Mental Health of the students
in this time of Pandemic.
