The code of conduct has now been approved and will be e mailed to all Members by
JM with the membership renewal invoice. 200 copies of the Code have been printed
with copies in the bar and in the Professional’s shop. There should be regular
reminder emails to members regarding slow play and the need for slow groups to let
players through, particularly if they have lost a hole in front of them.
A Social Media Policy is being produced by JM and RW has provided JM with copies
of examples used by other Golf Clubs.
Invitation Day (11th June 2022) it is proposed that a reminder email is sent out to all
members.
A complaint was received regarding members being allowed to play on the course
prior to the April Medal. Should the course be played (general play) prior to the first
tee time of a drawn competition? The committee view was that this is a Club
Manager decision, however, the Committee Members majority view &
recommendation is that it should not be permitted. Committee to discuss with JM
and SB.
A number of complaints were again received regarding slow play resulting in some
members leaving the course. This is now becoming a major problem acknowledged
by the Committee and the Club. PB will raise with JM and Niel Strawson with a
proposal to have signs erected advising players of speed of play.
It was reported that a Member playing in the April medal, having hit his ball out of
bounds on the third hole, tossed his new ball in the air rather than dropping it from
the knee. A Committee Member immediately advised the player how to drop a ball
properly. The player then dropped the ball correctly but unfortunately hit this ball
out of bounds again. The player then proceeded to toss another ball in the air, rather
than drop from the knee, and played on ignoring the advice just given. There is a
growing concern regarding the competency of members now playing in
competitions. This is likely to be linked to the increase in new playing members who
are able to join without any assessment of their ‘golfing competency’. It was agreed
that a rules education program is required for all members. It is also recommended
that all new members, if not assessed for competency, be provided with a form of
‘basic golf rules and course etiquette’ booklet. The benefits of this are many fold
including, improved speed of play; reduced infringement of rules; reduced conflict
on course and potentially reduced damage to the course.
Course work ongoing and looking good for summer.
