PRELIMINARIES
The session was done thru face to face and observed minimum health protocols. It began at 8:00
o’clock in the morning with a prayer, singing of national anthem, SDO hymn and a zumba/energizer thru
audio-video presentation. L and D coordinator, Ma’am Rowena D. Rodriguez checked the attendance,
followed by an opening remark with Ma’am Lilian S. Lusanta and finally, Ma’am Joan A. Jaca gave her
message and tackled the training orientation.

SESSION PROPER
After having a roll call of teachers and two parents attendees per section, Ma’am Angelica P.
Bajandi, the first speaker, presented the objectives of her topics the “Marungko Approach” and “Fullers
Technique”. The session highlighted on how to address the struggling learners with regards to their
reading skills. Ma’am Angelica also emphasized how Marungko Approach and Fullers Technique work to
help struggling readers can read through the help of parents as reading home facilitators.
Ma’am Jennifer G. Deogrades, the second speaker, presented as well the objectives of her topics
“Story Reading Framework” and “Sequencing Events”. With her session, teachers identified the nature,
process and importance of SRF as an effective teaching strategy. Recognized and utilized the different
steps in SRF and demonstrated competence in teaching explicitly reading comprehension. Teaching
Sequencing through Explicit teaching had the following steps; Introduction, Modelling, Guided Practice,
Independent Practice and Application.
In the afternoon session, Ma’am Joan A. Jaca, our school principal, delivered her topic on how to
teach Cause and Effect explicitly using gradually release of responsibility or known as the Vygotsky
Scaffolding Theory; the Introduction and Modelling/Teaching(I Do), Guided Practice(We Do), Independent
Practice and Application(You Do). She stressed why should the learners be familiar with the signal words
and also enlightened the mind of the participants that these signal words are contributory to vocabulary
building, helpful in identifying cause and effect and essential in determining the text structure. The
participants gained so much knowledge and learnings with the three speakers. They are so grateful and
lucky enough that they have attended the sessions with brilliant facilitators.
The session ended with the Demo-teaching of Ma’am Rowena D. Rodriguez, a grade one teacher
utilizing the Story Reading Framework in Mother Tongue.
