The City of Waterdeep, the Crown of the North
Waterdeep – A Tourist’s Guide
• Open Lord Laeral Silverhand, a Chosen of Mystra and the incumbent
leader of Waterdeep. Known for her superb organization and her
ambition, she aims to unite the wayfaring city-states on the coast.
• There are twenty-six Magistrates (like senators; judiciaries) that
govern and strictly enforce the Laws of Waterdeep. They are
forthright and inquisitive.
• Waterdeep is an expansive city full of intrigue – love, crime, hopes,
and dreams are prevalent around every corner. You can go from the
fashionable nobles and lush gardens to the despondent and cold in
about ten minutes.
Wards
• Castle Ward – government agencies, courthouses, the prolific Castle Waterdeep
• City of the Dead – large city park and picnic area and holds the deceased of the
city in tombs, mausoleums, crypts, and graveyards; the place of many nefarious
affairs
• Dock Ward – The Great Harbor of Waterdeep; docks, shipyards, warehouses, and
plenty of taverns filled with sailors
• Field Ward – unofficial ward, home of the most destitute; refugees, travelers,
nomads, the outskirts of the city
• North Ward – lifestyles of the rich and wealthy; high-class bars, shops, and
boutiques dot the many huge manors and mansions
• Sea Ward – extended corner of the city, filled with even more luxury and home to
prominent noble families
• Southern Ward – the middle-class district and the true heart of Waterdeep;
settlers, farmers, and the working people
• Trades Ward – the shopping district
The Mysteries of Mount Waterdeep
• Waterdeep is built atop and all-around Mount Waterdeep.
• The Yawning Portal holds the well that descends into the Undermountain, a
dark colossus of caverns made by the mad mage Halastar Blackcoat. Filled
with traps, tricks, riddles – and of course, monsters – not many have
ventured into Undermountain and have came back alive.
• Delilah’s recon groups have not only successfully explored and mapped the
entrance of Undermountain, but also have found clues that lead to some
sort of passage to the beaches near Castle Waterdeep.
• Vajra Safahr has also made her allies and companions aware of Gaius
Tamlin’s, former and rather scorned candidate for the Blackstaff position,
presence in Waterdeep.
• Safahr’s recent studies into the magic of dreams made her question if that
is why Gaius returns. But, nonetheless, she has ascertained numerous
sources that suggest there is some magical dream artifact dormant near
the beaches of Castle Waterdeep.
