Unofficial Information for Members at ATU Locals 241 and 308
“Hour of Power” Inspires Public Transit
Workers Throughout North America!!
Various members and riders attended and
viewed live coverage at the “Hour of Power”
protest outside of the ATU Local 241 office on
December 22. They protested the refusal of
the Local 241 and Local 308 presidents to hold
virtual mass membership meetings.
Present at the Local 241 office that day were
BOTH ATU Local 241 and Local 308 presidents
Keith Hill and Ken Franklin. Strangely, President
Hill offered the members and police—who he
called for protection—hot cocoa. But then he
literally ran away after refusing to talk with
coworker and co-organizer, Eric Struch, who
was unjustly suspended by a manager for
demanding President Hill give him a union
newsletter during Hill’s Chicago Garage visit.
The union president was so angry with Brother
Struch, that he actually instructed a manager
to punish him. This is typical of many union
officers at 241 and 308: When members criticize
or refuse to obey them, they resort to shaming,
threatening and assaulting them. Since meetings

have been cancelled, there is no efficient way for
members to fight violations of union bylaws.
At least President Franklin engaged with the
protestors and independent media. Although
Franklin refused to accept responsibility for
his numerous failures at Local 308 and failed
to condemn president Hill for calling police on
peaceful union members, it was a testimony of
how disconnected some union officers are from
union members.
