The Ant and the Dove

One hot day, an ant was seeking for some water. After walking around for a moment,
she came to a spring. To reach the spring, she had to climb up a blade of grass.
While making her way up, she slipped and fell unintentionally into the water.

She could have sunk if a dove up a nearby tree had not seen her. Seeing that the
ant was in trouble, the dove quickly put off a leaf from a tree and dropped it
immediately into the water near the struggling ant. Then the ant moved towards the
leaf and climbed up there. Soon it carried her safely to dry ground.

Not long after at that, there was a hunter nearby who was throwing out his net
towards the dove, hoping to trap it in this way.

Guessing what he should do, the ant quickly bit him on the heel. Feeling the pain,
the hunter dropped his net and the dove flew away quickly from this net.

LUTUNG KASARUNG

Long time ago, there was a king named Prabu Tapa Agung. He was an old king with
two daughters, Purbararang and Purbasari. He planned to retire and wanted Purbasari to
replace him.
Hearing this, Purbararang was angry, because she was older than Purbasari. She,
together with Indrajaya, her fiancé went to a witch and asked her to put a spell on Purbasari.
Then they gave her a bowl of drink and told Purbasari to drink it. She did what her sister
asked to do. Later, Purbasari had a bad skin. There were black dots all over her body.
Purbarrang asked Purbasari to go the forest to protect the family.
Purbasari was very sad because she had to stay in the jungle. To amuse herself, she
spent her time playing with some animals there. There was one monkey that always tried to
cheer her up. It was not just an ordinary monkey, he had magical power. And he also could
talk with humans. The monkey's name was Lutung Kasarung. He was actually a god named
Sanghyang Gurumina. Lutung Kasarung planned to help Purbasari. He made a small lake and
asked her to take a bath there. And then, Purbasari turned back into a beautiful princess. And
she, accompanied by Lutung Kasarung returned to her palace.
Purbararang told Purbasari that she would handed over the kingdom to her in one
condition that Purbasari fiancé was more handsome than hers. Lutung Kasarung helped her
by changing himself into a very handsome prince, more handsome than Purbararang’s fiance.
Finding the fact, Purbararang forcefully, handed over the kingdom to Purbasari. And from
that time, she ruled the kingdom wisely.
