“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we
ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.”
Romans 8:26-27 (NIV)

ADORATION: God, you are…

God uses our prayers to accomplish His work in the world. This session will help us value prayer as
God does. The circle shows the Process of Prayer – God’s action in human affairs

THE FATHER’S ROLE

Prayer begins in God the Father – the 12 o’clock
CONFESSION: God, I’m sorry… position, God the Father releases His will to the Holy
Spirit.
“But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit.
For the Spirit searches all things, yes the deep things of
God.”
1 Corinthians 2:10

THANKSGIVING: God, thank you…

Three intercessor are involved in the prayer process.
Read the passages and find out the role of each:

1. The HOLY SPIRIT’S Role:

The Holy Spirit, at the 3 o’clock position:
 Romans 8:26-27 ____________________________________________
SUPPLICATION: God, please…
 John 14:12-15 ______________________________________________
 John 14:16-18 _____________________________________________

The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

James 5:16b
2. The SON’S Role: Prayer Journal
The third intercessor, at the 9 o’clock position. Power for praying comes from uniting our
prayers with the praying of Jesus to whom God has given all authority in heaven and earth.

 Isaiah 53:12 ________________________________________________ Date:

 Romans 8:34 _______________________________________________
 John 14: 16-18 _____________________________________________

3. The BELIEVER’S Role:

We Christians are at the 6 o’clock position in “the Process of Prayer” diagram.

 Ezekiel 22:30 ________________________________________________

 1 Thessalonians 5:16-19 ______________________________________
 Ephesians 6:18 ______________________________________________

CONCLUSION:
1. The Spirit entrusts His groaning to us in the form of prayer burdens.
2. Effective prayer expresses those burdens which the Spirit stirs within our hearts.
3. Fullness of the Spirit enables us to reach our highest prayer potential.

REFLECTION:
What has the Lord been saying to you in this lesson?

In what ways might you know when God is stirring you to pray?

The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

LESSON 3: GROWING STRONG IN PRAYER God is eternal and timeless. He has already accomplished everything He is ever going to do!
God has answers prepared and waiting for all the prayers that we pray. Thank Him to prepare
your heart to receive His prepared supply.

1. GOD IS! WORSHIP HIM (Hebrews 11:6)
Our faith expands through worship. God’s delays are not denials. They allow time for God to do five important things:
Worship is exploring and admiring God. The better you know Him, the more you can trust  Change us.

What two essential elements do we discover about God in worship? (Hebrew 11:6)  Win spiritual battles.
 ___________________________________________  Accomplish details that are related to our requests.
 ___________________________________________  Provide greater answers than we expected.
What are some ways in which to worship the Lord? REFLECTION:

ACTIVITY: PRAYER PARTNERS

BIBLICAL FOUNDATION
“If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in
heaven will do it for you.”
Matthew 18:19 (NLT)

A prayer partner is someone who:

 Listens carefully.
 Listens with love.
 Listens in the Holy Spirit
 Speaks the truth in love.
 Knows that only God can change the human heart.
 Accepts the fact that sometimes they will fail.
 Knows their own constant, personal need of God.

Why the Power of Two?

1. Strength. A bundle of sticks cannot be broken.
2. Encouragement. “For if one falls down, his friend can lift him up. But pity the man who falls
and has no one to help him up.” Ecc. 4:10
3. Success. “Two are better than one because they have a good return for their work.” Ecc.
4:9
4. Defense. “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves.” Ecc. 4:11
5. Faith added to faith. “If two of you shall agree…” Matthew 18:19
6. Overcomes our limitations. “The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The
head can’t say to the feet “I don’t need you.”” 1 Cor. 12:21

The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
