Specified Model: Yardney Model ___________ Centrifugal (Sand) Separator

General: The centrifugal separator system shall remove suspended solid contaminants from irrigation
water which have a specific gravity of two (2) or greater. Typically 98% removal efficiency
of 74-micron or larger particles is attained with sand and water in a single pass. The
separator shall also be capable of effectively removing larger particles, from 3/8" up to 2" in
size, depending on the separator model. The separator shall utilize a two-stage open cavity
acceleration chamber for creating unobstructed centrifugal spinning action propelling heavier
particles out and downward in a spiral motion to the solids accumulation chamber. The use
of tangential slots or holes shall not be permitted to achieve centrifugal acceleration in the
acceleration chamber. The accumulated particles are removed through a purge outlet from
the solids accumulation chamber either manually or automatically.

The effective operational flow range of the separator specified above shall be within a
minimum flow of ________ and a maximum flow of ________ US gpm. Minimum available
inlet pressure will be 25 psi and the pressure loss at the maximum flow through the separator
shall be no more than 10 psi. Total system operating pressure shall be calculated to include
the minimum inlet pressure, the pressure drop through the separator and the operating
pressure requirement of the system.

Separator The housing shall be of ______________ (vertical, 22 1/2° angled or horizontal)

Housing: configuration. The angled and horizontal separators shall have built-in supporting legs (free
standing leg support for vertical separators is available.) The housing shall be fabricated
from carbon steel (Type 304 or 316 stainless steel and other alloys are available as options).
Scotchkote 134 fusion bonded epoxy environmental coating is available as an option on
wetted surfaces.

Connections: The inlet and outlet size of the separator shall be ________ (available in standard sizes:
1/2", 3/4", 1", 1-1/4", 1-1/2", 2-1/2", 3", 4", 6", 8", 10", 12", 14" and 16"). The vertical
separators up to 4" size shall have female IPT inlet/outlet connections. All others shall have
150 psi flanged inlet/outlet connections. All purge outlet connections shall be female IPT.

Clean Out All 4" and larger angle separators shall include a standard 2" plugged female IPT clean out
Access: access port on the solids accumulation chamber.

Purge A manual purge valve or an automatic purge package are optionally available. The optional
Packages: automatic purge package shall include an electrically 12 VDC, 110VAC or 220VAC, please
specify. Operated normally closed solenoid valve and a controller featuring programmable
purge duration and purge frequency functions.
