Subject: A business plan on “BTex” a start-up business that makes export quality eco-
friendly rugs made out of banana fiber.

Dear Miss,
It is our absolute pleasure to complete and submit the business plan on BTex, a sustainable,
breathable, environmentally friendly product which is made out of banana waste. We will export
our product and sell them locally to some local enterprises. For now, we are offering our rugs at
a cheaper rate but we won’t compromise with our quality at any cost. This business plan covers
all the areas of this business with proper description and evidence.
To complete this report, we have researched systematically on multiple areas of the business, we
analyze the market thoroughly, prepare a business model canvas, and analyze the stakeholders.
We are honored to work on this project, as it has a very important role in waste management.
This report helps us learn practical entrepreneurial skills which will help us in the future. We
really appreciate your effort and really hope you are satisfied with our work.

Sincerely,

Introduction
Banana fiber, also known as Musa fiber, is one of the most durable natural fibers on the planet.
The banana plant, often known as the plantain plant, produces not only a delicious fruit but also
textile fiber. The fiber is created from the trunk of the banana tree and is sustainable. It is also
quite durable. Banana fiber is comparable to natural bamboo fiber, but it is believed to have
greater spinnability, smoothness, and compressive strength.

While abaca is a type of banana plant that does not yield fruit, it does have lasting properties.
Although it is not cultivated for human consumption, it has significant ecological advantages like
soil management, ecosystem restoration, intercropping, and the utilization of waste products as
plant food.

Banana, one of Bangladesh's most important fruits, has risen to prominence among the country's
fruits, not only because of its massive yields but also because of its growing fame among many
farmers as an economic crop and among many people as a nutrient-rich fruit that is available all
year and has a higher eating rate than any other fruit. The banana is hence known as the "Apple
of Paradise." It's also called "Adam Fig" (International tropical fruits network, 2016). Narsingdi,
Gazipur, Rangpur, Bogra, Nator, Pabna, Noakhali, Faridpur, and Khulna are the major banana-
growing districts in Bangladesh.

Despite its many advantages as a textile for the fashion industry, banana fiber is relatively
unknown and underutilized. A bunch of bananas takes nine months to develop on a banana tree
(The surprising science, 2017). “After that, the bananas need another two to three months to
mature. The mother plant dies at the end of this cycle” (Sanders, n.d., para 3). As a result, it must
be trimmed down.

After that, the banana fiber may be removed from the Banana pseudostem, which resembles a
tree branch and is worthless once the fruit is plucked (Mantra workshop, 2013). We decided to
collect just banana fiber from suppliers after estimating the massive process of banana fiber
manufacture. Because our product will have no carbon impact, it will provide us with lucrative
potential in Bangladesh's textile sector. As a result, five of our partners have chosen to open a

5
factory to pursue the commercial manufacturing of environmentally friendly carpets at a lower
cost and sell them to profitable markets across the globe.

Nature of the business
First and foremost, we will install seven weaving machines in our plant in Gazipur. We would
gather banana fiber from traditional handcrafted items BD, who is a possible provider, to create
carpets in big quantities. We'll dye the fibers after they've been collected. The fiber will next be
fed into the weaving machine. After that, the product will be sliced and shaped to the desired
size. It will also be sewn after the shape has been supplied. Furthermore, we will apply a label to
our goods and handle the packing.

Finally, it will be put into storage. Our rug will be 4*2.5 feet in size and will cost about 700 TK.
Because our product has no carbon impact and is very eco-friendly, maintaining its quality will
be our top focus.

After we finish our final product, we will sell it to our local businesses, Aarong, Nodi, and
Karuponno. We will also offer our goods to worldwide markets, such as banana fiber rugs
exporter and textile exporter because it is in great demand. As a result, we'll concentrate on
exporting the carpets we've made to these profitable industries via exporters.

2. Business Model

A. Business Model Canvas

12
Key partners: our one of the most important key partners is NGOs (BRAC bank and BRAC
microfinance) from where we are going to take loans. Apart from that there are venture
capitalists who are going to support our start up financially. We also have suppliers, local
transporter and international transporter such as crown logistics Ltd.

Key activities: our key activities will be building relationships with customers so that we can
grow our business. As a new venture, we have to do marketing and advertising and collect raw
materials and manufacture the product. Also, we need to do Inventory management and train the
manpower so that they can work properly. And last but not the least transporting the rugs to the
exporter.

Key resources: our most important key resources will be banana fiber. Another key resource
will be Equipment (Weaving and sewing machines) for manufacturing our products. Also, there
will be capital, human resources and factories.

Value proposition: we will be fulfilling the social needs of our customers by making our
business sustainable and eco-friendly. We need less water and land for our manufacture and it
will be biodegradable, durable and in high demand. Customers will be satisfied because we will
keep it low price. This product will be good absorbent, highly breathable, and carbon footprint
free.

Customer relationship: we will have a business to business relationship. We will take feedback
and rating from the customer so that we can improve accordingly. Also, there will be one to one
marketing conferences, seminars and workshops.

Customer segments: the geographical segmentation will be in all over Bangladesh and also
other international exporters. As it will be a B2B business, we will segment our customers in
local enterprises (Aarong, Nodi, Karuponno), banana fiber rugs exporter and textile exporter.

Channels: the channels through which we will be connecting with our customer and other
partners are logistic partners. We will collect the Raw Materials from the suppliers and transport
them to the warehouse through our local transporter. We will store the finished goods in the
inventory and transport them to the respective location after getting orders.

13
Cost structure: our cost will be divided into some sectors. They are: promotional cost,
administrative cost, production cost, factory fixed and variable cost, wages and salaries of the
employees, Insurance, transportation cost.

Revenue streams: we will get our revenue from product sales.

B. Pricing Model
A pricing model ensures that a business operates smoothly and that revenues are easily
recognizable for the owners. As a result, we needed to create a specific pricing model for our
banana rugs.

In that case, the price of each individual rug will be 700 taka. We conducted market research
regarding how much this type of rugs should be priced. As we are manufacturing it from banana
fiber, it will be sustainable and biodegradable, our products will be in high demand. But as a new
entry we will keep the price lower. We’ll use penetration pricing strategy here. We will offer a
low price so that we can attract our customers and establish monopoly in the market. After some
initial time, when we will reach our customers, we’ll apply a competitive pricing strategy.
Competitive pricing is a pricing approach that considers the prices of competitors when
estimating the cost of the same or similar products. It will help us control the competition by
selecting a strategic price. So that, we won’t lose our market share and target customers from the
competitors.

C. Social goals
Businesses of all sizes must define social goals and make sure they are met to gain a competitive
advantage and remain relevant in the eyes of customers. If our product is not socially acceptable,
it will never be successful. In order to genuinely capture the essence of being a great product,
products must also bring people together and become a part of their daily lives.

14
In that case, our product will be in customer’s choice and they will be satisfied as it is a
sustainable and eco friendly product. It is biodegradable, has no adverse effect on the
environment and has strong moisture absorption quality. It is a great opportunity to manufacture
an environmentally friendly product from waste. Recently there are numerous potential
customers who are interested in organic products. So, our products from banana rugs will get a
significant advancement as there is the increase in environmental awareness, ecological concerns
and current economic condition. Also, with the attractive pricing and fashionable design we
really think our product will be a great success.

D. Financial sustainability
A company that has established financial sustainability sells a product or service at a price that
not only covers its expenses but also provides a profit. When a business first starts out, it's a
good idea to assess its financial viability in the marketplace. Because without financial
sustainability the business cannot cope up in the long run.

Our products from banana fiber rugs will be preferable to the people because it will be low
priced and environment friendly. At first, we will keep a minimum profit so that it can expand to
the customers and more people can gather knowledge about it. Our products will be fashionable,
trendy and easy to use and low affordable. We will take care of the quality of our products also.
So, our target customers won’t hesitate to buy our products.

We are going to use banana rugs for manufacturing our product at a cheap price. Also,
manufacturing our product with the help of different types of equipment and packaging it in our
factory located in the same area, keeps the cost down to a minimum. We truly think that this can
be a financially sustainable business model that we can earn sales revenue on.

15
E. Sustainability:

When a company's business activities do not harm the environment or biodiversity, it is said to
be sustainable. Sustainability is a technique that every company should keep in mind at all times
during its processes.

Our product from banana fiber rugs will be not only not harmful for the environment but also, we
are transferring waste into value. It is a great example of sustainability in our society where
people are only thinking about profitability in business. So as a sustainable business our products
will be good for the planet and global economy.

F. Eco-friendly

Our products from banana rugs will be eco-friendly because we do care about the environment
and global economy. We have already ensured that it will be sustainable and now we want to
take it a step further to be eco-friendly. It will minimize any kind of harm or pollution to the
environment. As we are using banana rugs as a raw material, it is a recycling process which will
reduce pollution and also lower our cost. Also, we need less water in manufacturing and our
products will be good absorbent, highly breathable, and carbon footprint free. So, there will be
no harm in the environment.

G. Ethical

In terms of safety and comfort our rugs will be preferable to the exporter and customers. We will
use our technologies and equipment to its full extent to make sure that the final production can
be as good as it could be. We will highly focus on our workers safety and satisfaction as well.
We’ll make sure our business will be child labor free and will pay the workers minimum wages
also. There will be rules and regulations for our human resources so that they can grow an ethical
mind set and work accordingly.

3. Business Environment analysis

PESTEL Analysis

Political: Political Instability is a huge problem for any business activities. Political anarchy has
been a huge problem in our country since it’s beginning. Political anarchy is the most
challenging part for every business in Bangladesh. Most of the time strikes, hartals go on. Which
has stopped every sector in our country. Which also creates problems in transportation
distribution and many business systems. Again, the change in government can result in changes
in trading policies, tax reform etc. Another concern is corruption, which is another problem in
our country. Running Political party powerful politicians entities often try to impose their illegal
demands regarding the small business. They want to benefit, which is really frightening.

Economic: Bangladesh’s economy is one of the fastest developing countries in the world. It has
nominal power which is 35th in the world. And 30th largest in terms of purchasing power. Our
country's GDP is totally dominated by ready textile exports, our agricultural industry and most
important is our remittance. We get huge amounts by remittance. Last few years our
unemployment rate has been decreasing dramatically. Where, due to Covid-19 other countries
suffering their economy then our country's economy is still increasing. This is a positive aspect
for our Btex.

Technological factors: Nowadays technology is the most important part for every sector, not
only business. We can not think for a moment without technology. Everyday technology is
getting more advanced. It is a great concern for us. In future we will add more technological

17
equipment to increase the efficiency of our production. Then we will get better quality and
efficiency. Technology can reduce our waste. All are the positive side for B tex

Environmental Factors: The environment is a very crucial part for every business, Since our
business is dependent on banana fiber’s environment is involved in every way for processing.
Every year natural disasters destroy many tree’s. But bananas are those types of trees which are
not damaged by storms. So we say that it will be environmentally friendly. There will be no
harm to the environment by our business. For this reason we will build our production facilities
in that way no harm is done to the environment.

Legal factor: we must have a thorough knowledge of any developments in federal policy. We
will have legal counsel to keep us informed about any legislative or regulatory amendments
made by the government. So that we do not have any problems running our company. We can
conduct our business easily and smoothly. Also we must follow existing rules and regulations of
Bangladesh such as:

1. Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act,1995

2. The Partnership Act,1932

3. Bangladesh Labour Act,2006

4. Bangladesh Labour Rules,2006

18
Porter’s Five Forces

Threat of New Entry: This business is still new in our country and it has a lot of potential. Any
entrepreneur can be attracted by this and they will want to invest in this. So the Threat Of new
entrants into our industry is medium to high.

Bargaining power of suppliers: The bargaining power of suppliers is low. Because banana trees
are available in our country. Banana trees produce bananas just one time in their lifetime. So,
after that farmers have to cut down those trees in order to produce bananas or anything else in
that soil. It costs them time as well as money. Our suppliers will collect these stems from the
farmers and we will buy it for 200tk per kg from them. It is good for both parties. Suppliers are
happy because they are getting money for selling something which was totally useless before.
For this reason, We can get low prices from them which is why their bargaining power is low.

Bargaining Power of Buyers: The bargaining power of customers is not so favourable for them.
There are not so many business firms which are producing banana rugs in our country. Interested
buyers have low options in their hand. So, as of now their bargaining power is very low.

Threat of substitution: Substitution of the items is different categories that have the same
purpose that a product serves. Our threat of substitution is high. When it comes to buying rugs,

19
customers can easily look for rugs made of cotton, silk, plastic, jute and many other raw
materials. It seems we have many direct competitors in the market.

Rivalry among existing competitors: Our Rivalry among existing competitors is typically high.
There are indirect competitors that have been in the industry for a long time. Many existing
companies are involved in this type of business and a lot of them have strong market share. So,
there is ongoing rivalry between competitors in this business.

SWOT:

Strength Weaknesses

● Lack of experience
● Low cost
● Eco friendly product ● Consumer are unaware
● No major direct competitor
● Difficult to handle buyer

Opportunities Threats

● Export product globally ● Natural Disaster

and internationally
● Competitors might come up
● Low price to other existing
rugs ● Political instability

Strength:

Low cost: Since Banana trees are available in our country. So We get our raw materials at low
prices.

20
Eco-friendly Product: As we are using banana fiber as a raw materials It minimize any kind of
harm and pollution to the environment

Direct Major Competitor: There are not so many competitors as this business is still pretty new
in our country. So this is the biggest advantage for us .

Weakness:

Lack of experience: Banana rugs are a totally new product in our country. We are the first to
start this business. That’s why we will be totally dependent on our research.

Consumers are unaware: Since we are recent mover a lot of consumers are unaware of us. It is
difficult for buyers to believe us. But we are able to strengthen our defence.

Opportunity:

Export product globally and internationally: we will export our product to foreign countries.
So there is a huge opportunity for global expansion. We will expand our product nationally and
internationally.

Low price to other existing rugs: there are huge rugs in our country but these are high prices.
Our products are low prices compared to existing rugs. Due to low prices we get a huge
opportunity.

Threat:

Natural disasters: Natural disasters are a big threat for our business. Sometimes natural
disasters destroy our land and trees Since we get our raw materials from banana trees. So that is a
huge threat for our business.

21
Competitor might come up: if other well-known companies might come up with similar
products then it will be difficult to compete with them.

Political Instability: Since we start our business globally and internationally so political stability
is important for us. If political instability arises buyers won’t come to visit our country. And it is
a major threat for any exporters. Political instability might hamper our business activities.

Stakeholders Analysis

Competitor: Competitors are one the biggest challenges. We have to keep our eyes on our
competitors, And also we have to monitor their business activities so that we can know what to
22
do next to survive in the market. Since our business is a new and new idea, that is very important
for us to keep our position in the market.

Transporter: they are the one who transfer our product to the customers. The transporter will
have high power and low interest in our business. We need to keep them informed about the
date. Location and weight of the goods to be transported.

Government: Government always keeps the highest power in every country. We must abide by
the rules and regulations of the government, pay taxes. So we need to be aware of government
rules and regulations.

Local government: Gazipur is the location of our factory. Due to this, we have to maintain good
ties with the local government. They have high power and low interest in our business. So we
must maintain their rules and regulations policies.

Media: For marketing promotional proposals, we will make advertisements. Due to this, we will
have to keep contact with the media people.

Bank and NGO: Banks always take financial support. And they have low power and high
interest in our business.

Suppliers: Suppliers have low power and high interest in our business. The main raw materials
for our business is banana fiber. Suppliers will provide us with these fibers.

Employees: they always work with us. They depend on our salaries for their livelihood. They
also have low power and high interest in our business.

Customer: Customers are the heart for any business. They bring revenue for us. Customers will
have not only the high power but also a high interest level in our business. And we always try to
keep our customers.

Venture capitalist: they are the private investors which give funds or exchange the business.
We must manage them closely. They have high interests. When the company makes a decision
they also have high power in the business.

23
Regulatory agencies: Regulatory agencies that set and monitor rules and regulation for doing
business. They have high interest and high power in the business.

4. Description of

ventures Mission
Our company's mission is to produce high-quality carpets that are environmentally friendly,
long-lasting, and water-resistant, and to sell them on the worldwide market at a fair price.

Vision
Our vision is to become the most renowned textile organization in Asia.

Product
Producing banana fiber-based carpets will be a profitable venture due to its numerous
advantages, such as the rug's extremely strong yarn. The yarn is light and airy, resulting in a
beautiful rug. It may also be used to retain moisture. Moisture is immediately captured and
released. It has good fibers with little elasticity. The pile-on banana fiber carpets will be lustrous
and bright. It's also relatively light. It is regarded as environmentally friendly. It's a
biodegradable substance. Furthermore, the material has no negative impact on the environment.
Most significantly, when compared to other fibers such as jute fiber, the rugs' price will be
inexpensive, as will their durability and ease of manufacturing from banana fiber to rugs. For
example, our banana fiber rug will cost 700 TK and each size will be 4*2.5 feet.

24
Because there is less rivalry in the market, our company will have a competitive edge. The
emblem and the name of our company, "BTEX," shall be the trademarks of our company. Our
company's logo and name will be registered under the Trade Mark Act of 2009 and the Trade
Mark Rule of 1963. Following the guidelines set by the Bangladesh government, our company
will go through the trademark registration procedure. By registering a trademark, we will be able
to bring our company to the attention of the general public. It will also assist us in taking legal
action against individuals who have infringed on our trademarks. We will continue to extend the
term of our trademark every ten years to ensure that no one else may use our logo or name.

Musa fiber, the strongest banana fiber, will be the product we gather for our business because
Bangladesh produces a large amount of it. The total annual biomass production of banana pseudo
is 3777874 tons. Since Bangladesh spends around Tk 1200 core on cotton imports each year,
there is a potential to replace a portion of the raw fiber deficit by extracting banana fiber. Tk 200
per kilogram is the price of the fiber.

Banana fiber is fast becoming known across the world for its incredible versatility. The fibers
used to weave banana fiber carpets are inherently bright, with a lustrous outer gloss. Not only
does this result in a beautiful product, but the fibers are also quite durable. The biodegradable

25
and environmentally friendly material is light and absorbs moisture well. It's easy to pick a rug
based just on appearance, but employing high-quality materials like banana fiber may result in a
genuinely stunning product.

The goal of investing in this business is to meet the growing demand for natural resources while
also providing a means for people to consume them without harming the environment in the
global market. As previously said, our country imports a lot of cottons, but there aren't many
companies that make banana fiber carpets. As a result, we may conclude that this company is
unusual in that there is less rivalry in the local market.

Size of Business

Our investor has extensively researched the demand for carpets in the worldwide market,
government laws and regulations, and legal processes because this firm has a large profit margin.
The business climate has been thoroughly examined. Also, the laws and regulations that our
company must follow have been thoroughly examined. We are currently seeking land in lease in
Gazipur so that we may build our plant there. We've also looked at the basic equipment that will
be required when we begin producing carpets. Our business has also been licensed. Our
company's logo has also been created, which will be utilized as a trademark.

Office Equipment

Laxmipura, Gazipur, will be our headquarters. We'll rent a factory there because ours will be a
medium-sized operation. We'll be producing super-intensive rugs at that plant. We want to put up
seven weaving machines, which will be operated by some of our staff. After that, some of our
staff will cut and shape the product to our specifications. We will then set up our sewing
machine. Then we'll keep our rug in the sewing machine to design and overlock it. The next step
is to label our carpets, which we have opted to do manually.

Then we'll set up our generator so that we can keep producing our goods. We'll also have a major
office in Gulshan, Dhaka, which we've rented for other essential office functions. We'll have
three areas of the workplace, one for each of the five company partners and their workstations.
26
The second one has desks for higher-ranking staff, as well as an office waiting room for visitors.
The waiting area will be furnished with a television, a sofa, a tea table, a router, and other
amenities. Every part of the workplace will have its restroom, complete with fixtures, sinks, and
mineral water dispensers. Our office will also feature printing and faxing capabilities.

A central air conditioning system will be installed throughout the office. In terms of people, we,
the five partners, will be present, as well as four additional higher-ranking managers. Every
employee will be paid 6500 TK, while supervisors will be paid 9250 TK. Each is in charge of
machinery, quality control, and overall management. The firm will employ 12 people to operate
the machines and work on the final product.

Gazipur is a good location for our plant since it produces the most bananas in Bangladesh and it
is also an industrial region where we can acquire land at a reasonable price. Our labor costs will
be lower here, and we will have access to more resources.

Business equipment is required. The following is a list of the essential equipment we'll need to
start the rug factory:
● Weaving machine
● Sewing machine
● Industrial scissors per piece 800 TK
● Industrial anti-cutters per piece 2000 TK
● 2 Generator with 3000W-3500W
● CCTV Camera
● Scanner
● Electrical Installation

We must invest a specific amount of money here since these are the few key pieces of equipment
that we will require throughout the business. To prevent leasing or renting difficulties, all of this
equipment will be acquired with our own money from the United States, China, and the United
Kingdom.

5. Production plan

A. Manufacturing Process:

The most important material to start our production is Banana Fiber. We know that after
harvesting bananas from the trees, the trees die, and if the stems of the trees are kept in the land,
the land becomes infertile, or if the stems are burned, it pollutes the environment. So making
fiber out of the waste is a very environmentally friendly thing and a good way of earning. This
fiber is biodegradable, sustainable, and carbon footprint-free. Though we can produce the fiber,
the process is time-consuming and requires land, resources, and capital.
For this reason, we have decided to outsource the material to make the rugs. We will collect the
fiber from Classical Handmade Product BD, as it is the most renowned and award-winning
company for its quality materials. The head office of Classical Handmade Product BD is situated
in Baridhara DOHS, and they have factories in multiple places in Bangladesh.

Figure 1: Making of Banana Fiber at Classical Figure 2: Banana

After collecting the fiber, we will shift it to our production plant through our local transportation
partner, “Truck Lagbe.” After the fiber reaches the manufacturing plant, we will start working
on it immediately.

33
Figure 3 & 4 show the transfer of the fibers from the suppliers to the manufacturing plant

We will color some of the fiber manually and dry them under the sun upon getting the fiber. We
will check whether we have any defective materials or not. If we find any faulty parts, we will
immediately reject them. After all the fiber gets prepared, we will put the fibers into the weaving

After finishing the fiber weaving, we will take out the rug fiber. Then we will cut the edges and
shape them according to the desirable rug size. Next, we will stitch and overlock the edges using

the heavy-duty rug and carpet sewing and overlocking machine KK812-P. That’s how we will
finish making our rugs, which will shift to the following departments for labeling and packaging.

Subsequently, we will send the rugs to the labeling unit, where labeling will be done. Then we
will send the goods to the inspection unit, where quality will be checked and inspected whether
there is any defect or not. If we find any defect, we will immediately reject that unit of the
product to assure quality. Then we will scan the product before storing so that we can check
further how much product is in inventory and how much is stock out. Finally, the rugs will be
packaged and stored in storage until shipment.

B. Physical plant:
To manufacture our rugs and run all the production and operational activities, we need a proper
production/ physical plant. So, we are going to lease a factory in Laxmipura, Gazipur. We have
selected this area to make the transportation process easier and cost effective. Since we will start
our business at a medium scale, we need to lease a medium size factory, where we can set all our
equipment and machineries properly and run the operations effectively and efficiently without
any interruptions. In the factory, we will need storage to store the raw materials safely. We will
need different departments to run different activities, such as coloring uitm drying unit, weaving
unit, shaping unit, sewing unit, labeling and scanning unit, quality control unit and lastly finished
goods storage unit. Apart from these, we will need spaces for our administrative works. We will
decorate our factory in such a way that it will give a good vibe, where employees will get enough
area to breathe and feel motivated to work efficiently.

6. Operational Plan

A. Description of Company’s Operation: Although the head office of BTex will be located in
Gulshan, Dhaka, the manufacturing and distribution process will take place in Laxmipura,
Gazipur. Company operation of BTex is as follows:

❖ After getting all the necessary licenses and documentation ready, we will request our

local government to grant us the permission to start the business.

❖ To manufacture our rugs and run all the production and operational activities, we are

going to lease a factory in Laxmipura, Gazipur.

❖ To run our operations smoothly and produce great quality products, we are going to

import the best machinery and equipment from the USA, UK and China.

❖ As soon as we collect our main raw material which is banana fiber from Classical

Homemade product BD, we will store it in our warehouse and start our production
immediately after checking the quality.

❖ We will send our products for labeling and packaging after finishing the fiber weaving

and shaping them according to the preferred rug size.

❖ Quality inspection will take place in multiple steps as producing the best quality rugs is

our primary target.

❖ Our local transporter ‘Truck Lagbe’ will transport the finished goods from our warehouse

to the local buyers (Nodi and Karuponno).

44
❖ Our international transportation partner ‘Crown Logistics Ltd.’ will export the rugs to our

buyers in Germany (CCE Hanseatic Agri Gmbh).

B. Flow of Order
In Bangladesh our main target customers are local enterprises that are interested in organic,
biodegradable, eco-friendly home-decor items, and since we are exporting our product in
Germany as well, we have to be very cautious as people there are very conscious about the
environment. For this reason, we have to position ourselves very firmly in the customer's mind.
From our observation, we know that we will receive more orders during the winter season from
both our local and international buyers. To get the product, buyers need to place an order at our
Head Office, situated in Gulshan, Dhaka. They can contact us through our hotline “18999” and
through our website as well. The order should be placed before two months of the expected
product delivery date, as it takes time to make banana fiber rugs. We will make the rugs based on
the demand size, and it will follow the first come and first serve principle. Upon finishing the
orders, we will transfer the products to their respective locations through our logistic partners.

Figure: Flow of Orders

45
C. Technology Utilization

There are multiple entrepreneurs in our country who have identified the opportunity of banana
stem rugs and started doing business already. This banana fiber is a valuable raw material which
is sold 200 tk per kg and also exported at a large scale in European countries. As there is already
an existing market for this banana fiber in our country, we have to make sure that BTex is
providing the best quality experience to the buyers or it will be difficult for us to compete in the
market. We will use 7 eco-friendly weaving machines which will be imported from India to
make the rug fabric from the banana fabric. Six KK812-P sewing machines will be used for
stitching and overclocking the edges of the rugs as this heavy-duty machine delivers high quality
finishing to the rugs. We will import top quality generators from ‘Factory Outlet Q store, China’
to keep incessant workflow in our production plant. We will make sure that these machines are
environment and workers friendly. Other than these, our facility will be covered by CCTV
cameras to provide security from any kind of unfortunate events.

46
7. Market plan:

A. Product:
Our product is a Banana Fiber rug which falls under the home decoration product
category. Since our business is new, right now we will only produce one type of rug in
only one size and design on a mass scale. In the future, when we will expand our business
on a large scale, we will introduce different categories and offer customization of the
product as well. We can further divide our product into three levels - core benefit, actual
product, and augmented product to get a deeper understanding about the product.

Figure 15: Three levels of product

a. Core Benefit: This level will deal with the core reason or main purpose of buying a
product. Since our product is a home decor item, people will buy it to decorate their
home. Also, our product is good to the Earth, so it is a good option for the environment
conscious people. Apart from these, we will export our product to Germany, where due to
cold weather, people purchase this product to make their floor warm and cozy.

b. Actual Product: It is the tangible or physical part of the product that the customers
purchase to avail the core benefit of the product. It consists of the brand name, tagline,
features and attributes, size, quality, design, and packaging of the product. Our brand
name is “BTex” and the tagline is “It’s Green and Clean”. Our rug size is 4 * 2.5 feet,
and we will produce it in an uniform design. As already mentioned, our main aim is to
provide the best quality product, we won’t compromise with it, so we will use the best
quality materials to make our product. And we will keep our packaging simple to reduce
waste.
47
Figure 16: Visual of our product

c. Augmented Product: This is the intangible part of the product, or the extra value or
services that the customers will get from the product. Since our customer segment is
B2B, we will try our level best to ensure quality and proper service. That’s why all our
equipment and raw materials are to be collected from the best dealers and suppliers.
Apart from that we will keep a very professional relationship with our customers, we will
give offers, and we will establish a strong social media presence to communicate with our
consumers and help them solve their problems.

B. Price:
For the first year we will use the penetration pricing strategy. As we know, in this strategy the
price is kept low to attract more customers and make the reach high. We will charge Taka. 700
for each unit of the product, which is quite low if we consider our competitors. Since, our
customer segment is B2B, they will get attracted and may order at a large scale. Which will
eventually help us achieve economies of scale. But for the furthermore years when our business
will expand, we will make a change in our pricing strategy, that time we will use competitive
pricing to increase our profit margin.

48
C. Place:
Since our target audience is B2B segment, in Bangladesh, we will target local enterprises within
Dhaka, such as Nodi, and Karuponno as these companies are prone towards environmentally-
safe, biodegradable, and organic products. We will distribute our products in Dhaka with our
local transportation partner “Truck Lagbe”.
Apart from these, we will export our product in Germany as well where our buyer is “CCE
Hanseatic Agri Gmbh”. This company is very much interested in our product as they are an agro-
based company and want organic products. We will distribute our product there with our
international logistic partner “Crown Logistics Ltd.”

D. Promotion:
To attract our customers, we have to create awareness about our product. For the B2B segment
it’s a bit different and difficult, but we will choose strategy in such a way that helps us create
mass awareness and buzz about our product. We will have both physical and digital presence.
Since we distribute our product both locally and internationally, we have to be very careful. In
Bangladesh, we will use TVC, newspaper advertisements, seminars and campaigns to
communicate with our target audience and let them know about our product. But for the
international buyers, we have to establish a very firm presence on social media. We will have our
official website, and official pages on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Linked in. We will use
search engine optimization to make our reach high. For the first year we will do aggressive social
media marketing so that more people can know and get attracted with our product.

E. Positioning:
Positioning is extremely important in the marketing context, as it deals with how the customer’s
perceive the product in their mind. And it is not in the marketer's hand. We have decided to
position our brand based on product benefits. As the tagline says, “It’s Green and Clean”, we
will position our product in such a way that people will remember it based on the social and
environmental benefits they will be getting after purchasing the product.

49
F. Packaging:
As we start our business with an environmental goal that we will try our level best to not pollute
our nature much and mitigate waste, we will keep our packaging simple and easy. For this reason
we will use locally made plain paper carton boxes. Unfortunately, to secure our packaging, we
have to use scotch tape, which is made out of plastic and bad for the environment but we don’t
have any option. Hence, we have to use it until we get some better material.
