Activity: Label and move chamfers


In this activity, you will:

 Identify angled faces that are not recognized by NX as chamfers.


 Label angled faces as chamfers so they will update when Synchronous Modeling
commands are used.
 View the difference between labeled and unlabeled chamfers.
 Edit the size of a labeled chamfer.

Move the stepped face


The design intent is to move the stepped face and have the chamfer face remain the
same size.

1. Open syn3_label_chamfer.

2. Choose Home tab→Synchronous Modeling group→Move Face .


3. Select Top Border bar→Face Rule list→Single Face.
4. Select the face as shown.

5. In the Transform group, from the Motion list, select Distance.


6. In the Distance on-screen input box, type .5 and press Enter.

The length of the angled face increases. This face is not recognized as a
chamfer and the typical chamfer offset distances are not maintained.

7. Press Esc or Cancel to exit the command without moving any faces.

Label the chamfer faces

1. Choose Home tab→Synchronous Modeling group→Label Chamfer .


2. Select the angled face shown.

The two adjacent construction faces are highlighted.

If the construction faces are not highlighted, you can use select Select Face
1 and Select Face 2 options in the Construction Faces group to select each
face manually.

3. To label the chamfer, click Apply.


4. Select the angled face as shown.

5. To label the chamfer, click the middle mouse button.


6. Select the angled face as shown.

7. To label the last chamfer, click OK.

Move the stepped face and labeled chamfer

1. Choose Home tab→Synchronous Modeling group→Move Face .


2. Ensure Top Border bar→Face Rule list→Single Face is selected.
3. Select the face as shown.

4. In the Transform group, from the Motion list, select Distance.


5. In the Distance on-screen input box, type 2 and press Enter.

The length of the angled face is unchanged. This face is now recognized as a
chamfer and the offset distances are maintained.

6. To move the faces, click the middle mouse button.

Note If you see an active <OK> button in the dialog box, you can choose another
command without clicking the middle mouse button to complete the
current command.

Change the chamfer size

1. Choose Home tab→Synchronous Modeling group→Resize Chamfer .


2. Select the three faces as shown.

3. In the Offsets group, from the Cross Section list, select Symmetric Offset.

The original angled faces were not symmetric in length and height. It would
have been difficult to make this change without using the Label
Chamfer and Resize Chamfercommands.

4. To edit the chamfer, click the middle mouse button.

5. Close the part now or close all parts when you exit the session.
