Chapter - 4 Moving Charges and Magnetism

Module - 2 Worksheet
Note : Each Question carries 5 marks
1) Two identical coils each of radius R and having number of turns N are lying in
perpendicular planes, such that they have common centre. Find the magnetic
field at the centre of the coils, if they carry currents equal of I and ✓3I
respectively.

2) The magnetic field due to a current carrying circular loop of radius 12 cm at

its centre is 0.5 × 10-4 T. Find the magnetic field due to this loop on the axis at
a distance of 5 cm from the centre.

3) What is the magnitude of magnetic field as a distance r/2 on the axis from the
centre of a current carrying coil of radius 'r.

4) State the Biot-Savart law for the magnetic field due to current element. Use
this law to obtain a formula for a magnetic field of a circular loop of radius R
carrying a steady current I.

5) What is the ratio of magnetic field at the centre of a current of radius 'a' and at
a distance 'a' from centre of coil and on axis of the coil?

6) A long straight wire in the horizontal plane carries a current of 50 A in North

to South direction. Give magnitude and direction of B at a point 2.5m east of
the wire.

7) Two straight infinitely long and thin wires are spaced ✓2 m apart and carry a
current of 5A each. Both wires carry the current out of plane of paper. What is
the magnetic field at a point P distance 1 m from both the wires?

8) What is the basic difference between magnetic field and electric field?

9) A current is set up in a long copper pipe. Is there a magnetic field (i) inside
(ii) outside the pipe?

10) How will the magnetic field intensity at the centre of a circular coil carrying
current change, if the current through the coil is doubled and radius of the
coil is halved?
