EEE 3102 CIRCUIT AND NETWORK THEORY III CAT 1 SOLUTIONS

DATE: 25th June 2021 TIME: 1 HOUR

1) In mathematics, signal processing and control theory, a pole–zero plot is a graphical

representation of a rational transfer function in the complex plane which helps to convey
certain properties of the system such as stability. For the RC Circuit network in Fig. 1, answer
the following questions.

𝑽𝒐 (𝒔)
i. Determine the transfer function 𝑯(𝒔) = ⁄𝑽 (𝒔) . (2

Derive the transfer function and draw the magnitude and phase frequency response and
deduce the type of filter represented. Consider evaluating the circuit to be either a
lowpass filter, a highpass filter and/or an all pass filter. Recall that the general form of a
𝒔+𝒛
transfer function 𝑻(𝒔) is: 𝑻(𝒔) = 𝒌
