INTRODUCTION
An internship is a professional learning opportunity that provides students with meaningful, practical work in their field of study
or career interest. An internship allows a student to explore and develop their career while also learning new skills. It allows the employer to
introduce new ideas and energy into the workplace, develop talent, and possibly create a pipeline for future full-time employees.
Internships play a significant role in a student's involvement in the corporate world. It is commonly referred to as "on-the-job
training". The goal of an internship is for the student to observe, learn, and experience the environment in each agency that they choose. One
of the goals of an internship is to instill in students the competencies, work ethic, and values necessary for furthering their education and/or
entering the corporate world. It is simply the final aspect of a college student that serves as a steppingstone toward a holistic development
equipped with skills and knowledge acquisition. A college student is required to complete an internship in an industry that is directly related

to the student's post-secondary goal. To improve their competence, students are exposed to and become familiar with work-related
environments related to their field of specialization through OJT. Students are able to: gain relevant and practical industrial skills under the
supervision of industry experts and workers; appreciate the importance and application of the principles and theories taught in school;
improve their technical knowledge and skills; broaden their skills in communications and human relations; and develop good work habits,
attitudes, appreciation, and respect for work. These prepare them to meet the demands and challenges of post-graduation employment.
The internship program is both beneficial and effective to the students and the Host-Training Agency. It enables the
student to acquire skills that cannot be learned in the classroom environment such as developing soft skills such as interpersonal skills,
professionalism, confidence, and self-efficacy. On the other hand, the employer will obtain access to low-cost to free of labor which is a big
help for them to reduce their workload such as doing clerical functions and giving assistance in technologically-inclined work to the officers
who find it difficult to do their task that requires online. Hence, having an internship program is a great avenue to hone the skills of the
students and be ready and qualified as they start to enter in the corporate world.

multiple tasks that I was instructed to do and most importantly, I was able to enjoy and feel the warm welcome of all the officers at the
agency.

Interview clients. One of my major accomplishments as an intern was interviewing clients; we were tasked with gathering only the client's
personal information, and the probation officers would conduct the rest of the preliminary interview. Some clients find it difficult to
understand some questions that are asked to them, so as an interviewer, I tried asking them in different languages, be it in Ilocano or Ibanag,
even though I am not fluent in Ilocano just the basics, I am trying harder in order for the client to understand and supplement the needed
information to be gathered.
Filing of Documents. It was quite easy but it was the most exhausting part. Given that there are numerous files of parolees and probationers.
It was tiring to locate several files because there are instances that it was not alphabetically organized and you cannot just put the document
in; I had to go over the file and place the document in a proper sequence. It might sound exaggerated however I felt that it was tantamount to
lifting dumbbells at the gym due to placing in and placing out of the folders.
Encoding and Photocopying. This is the expected work for an intern, and I consider this also as one of my performance highlights because
in this type of task even though it is bulk, I am able to do it fast and accomplish it completely.
Always find ways. This was and should probably be one of the attitudes should an intern possessed; however, I consider this also as my
performance highlights. Whenever my boss is asking for some assistance especially on technology, sometimes I find difficult as well, but
instead of saying that I don’t know what to do, I will search for a solution and try until I was able to solve the problems that they encountered.
Experiences
During my internship, it was timely that the assistant regional director was scheduled to audit the files of our probation officers and the
administrative officer; there were a plethora of files that needed to be completed and updated. We worked as quickly as we could on the task
that was assigned to us; encoding or writing the client's profile, doing the BATH plan, or The Behavior, Attitude, Trait, and Habit plan, in
which you should determine the client's bad habit based on the information provided at the Post Sentence Investigation and provide ways to
eliminate these bad habits; photocopying documents; tabbing of documents; labeling the files and putting docket numbers, in order our
officers can focus more on the more complex aspects of their work. As a result, all files were prepared and ready for audit. Our tasks that was
designated to us may be easy as it seemed, but our officers are thankful, and it made me feel satisfied that we experienced one of the busiest
In line with this, with all the large workloads, every officer would always remind us, “relax, don’t overdo too much, piles of work won’t run it
is always there, don’t forget to take care of yourself” and that’s how we would pause for a minute, laugh, and then they would genuinely
share pieces of advice if we want to work in their office in the future, how they achieved their position without the “backer system”.
Further, the bond that we shared with them enabled us to work comfortably and happily and I will be forever grateful for all the learnings that
Problems Encountered
It is normal to have problems at work; however, as an intern, there is always a point when you will get nervous despite the fact that our
officers are understanding and patient. I was told to deliver the letter to an office, but due to the letter's confusing address, I delivered it to the
wrong office, RTC Branch. 17 and it was supposed to be delivered in the Office of the Clerk of Court, luckily they didn't put a mark as
"received copy" in their office, so they returned the letter to our office, and that's the time I felt so embarrassed, because it was just a simple
task and yet I found it confusing, nonetheless, I got the letter again and delivered it to the right office.
The following week, I was instructed to deliver a letter again, and it was almost the same scenario, but before delivering the letter, I double
checked to avoid making the same mistake, and I asked our administrative officer where I should deliver the letter, and I followed what he
said. Unfortunately, the letter he told me to deliver to the Clerk of Court's Office was supposed to be delivered to RTC Br. 17 and it caused a
problem, which I don't know what it is, but I felt responsible for the error that was made, but the officer told me it wasn't my fault. The
feeling was nerve-wracking when you make a mistake in the field of legal aspect, it’s as if you committed a crime.
Being an intern during this time of pandemic is unpredictable; you never know whether you'll finish the assigned hours working
on-site or not because there is a possibility that it might shift to virtual internship due to the threat of the virus. However, I am blessed that I
As an intern at the City of Ilagan Parole and Probation Office, I have learned and realized a lot of things. One of the things that I
have learned is how to provide excellent service to clients and treat them with the utmost respect, even if they have been convicted of a crime.
I have witnessed the transformation of one's probationers as they learn the consequences of their actions and are molded to not repeat their
mistakes and to be law-abiding citizens. Furthermore, performing clerical functions that may appear to be simple and easy to accomplish,
such as photocopying, filing, and printing documents, contributed a big help to reducing the officers' heavy workload and allows them to
focus more on the more complex aspects of their work. In addition to this, as I have learned the administrative work such as tabbing of files,
preparing and securing logbooks, and outgoing communications I was able to assist officers in ensuring that their files are ready for audit.
Auditing files is one of the most exhausting parts at you may encounter at the City of Ilagan Parole and Probation Office, as an
intern it made me feel overwhelmed, with the tons of files that needs to prepare and needs to be update but one thing that cross my mind is
that, this is the real world of corporate worker, I questioned myself on how they can even endure sitting at their table facing their laptops from
8:00 am to 5:00 pm for one supervising officer handles a hundred of clients and you will reflect if you can do what are they doing, however as
an officer in this agency they always say that they started from the bottom as administrative aide to supervising officer thus, their passion and
For over a month that I have been an intern in this agency, it was a monotonous yet I have learned different things on strategizing
on how I will be able to accomplish tasks on a fast-paced and enable to multi-task to cope up with all the work that designated to me by one
officers to another. I am thankful that I have my co-intern that we helped each other, and when I find the task challenging at times, we
frequently switch tasks or do the task in half, which is why we have completed all of the tasks assigned to us quickly.
COLLEGE OF BUSINESS, ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND ACCOUNTANCY PAGE
I am beyond grateful for every single lesson that the City of Ilagan Parole and Probation Office taught me, as well as their
unending patience whenever I made a mistake on something. They always remind me that it is normal for me to make mistakes because I am
a beginner, and there is always room for improvement. They taught me/us that do not stop learning even if you reach the highest position and
At the end of my work hours, I always felt that being an intern at the City of Ilagan Parole and Probation Office was tiring yet
