1. Review
a. In your past lesson, you explained and identified the
importance and components in a health appraisal. Now, what is
health appraisal again children?
How important is undergoing health appraisal?

undergone any of the health appraisal procedure ? Which is it
and why?

Our lesson for today is about undergoing health appraisal
procedure.

2.Discussion
HEALTH APPRAISAL
Is an evaluation procedure of an individual’s health which is
performed to gather information about his/her current fitness status
as well as his/her risk of developing various medical condition.

1. Height and Weight Measurement

Measuring your height and weight is part of the annual screening


process done by your school nurse or doctor. It is important to
monitor an infant or child’s health. It is used to calculate body mass
index, or BMI, to ensure the health status of the child.

2. Vision Screening

Is an efficient and cost-effective method to identify children with visual


impairment or eye conditions that are likely to lead to vision loss. A
referral can be made to an appropriate eye care professional for
further evaluations and treatment

3. Hearing Test

Audiometric – is part of an ear exam that tests how well a


person is able to hear. It is done by measuring how well sound
can reach the brain.

4. Dental Examination

Taking care of your mouth, teeth and gums are worthy goal to have
healthy teeth. Good oral and dental hygiene can help prevent bad
breathe, tooth decay and gum disease. It can help you keep your
teeth as you get older. It’s because regular dental visits are essential
for the maintenance of healthy teeth and gums. And in between those
examinations, it is important that you keep your gums clean and
healthy.

5. Breast Self-Examination for Girls


Helps doctor check that everything is normal. Doctors don’t usually
start doing breast exams until a girl is in her 20’s. A doctor or nurse
practitioner will fell a woman’s breast to check any lumps and bumps
and see if there are changes. Because the changes in the
reproductive system, another important test breast examination for
girls and testicular for the boys. Examination should be done every
month and at the end of menses in all menstruating women.

6. Scoliosis Test

Is a simple screening test that can detect potential problems. If you


notice any unevenness, you should contact your doctor for an
examination.
Using a scoliometer can help determine the severity of the curve.
Scoliosis is usually confirmed by taking X-Ray of the entire spine
looking from front and back.
