UPLIFTING HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

TO COMBAT COVID-19
(CAMPAIGN SPEECH)
“ Battle for the life we yearn for years”

1. INTRODUCTION
➢ The Importance of Staying Healthy Throughout Pandemic
❖ In several areas throughout the world, new waves of
COVID-19 infections are constantly re-emerging. Even
though vaccination campaigns have been implemented, the
unbalanced distribution of vaccinations and the
introduction of new COVID-19 variants means that the
pandemic remains uncontrolled. Affected nations have
implemented stringent preventative measures such as
lockdowns, house confinement, and social isolation. There
are so many changes going on, which makes people
frustrated, apprehensive, and anxious. The administration
has urged us all to stay at home to flatten the curve. We all
have a role to play in protecting our own and others'
physical and emotional health, and it is more important
than ever to take care of our mental health and well-being.
Many of us are currently thinking about how we can help to
overcome this unusual situation, having been greatly
troubled by the recent pandemic. Simply adhering to the
health protocols implemented by our government and
keeping ourselves healthy is sufficient. As others risk their
lives to keep society safe, we must do our part to reduce the
load on frontline workers, because the healthier we are, the
more likely we are to handle illnesses such as the common
cold and other viruses.

2. BODY 1
➢ What is Covid-19
❖ COVID-19 is a global infectious disease caused by the
SARS-CoV-2 virus that has resulted in almost 550,000
illnesses and around 25,000 fatalities globally. It is a
member of the coronavirus family, which infects both
animals and humans. This one began in China at the end of
2019, in the city of Wuhan, the capital of China's Hubei
province, which has a population of 11 million people. on
March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization officially
declared the outbreak to be pandemic. Coronavirus
outbreaks have prompted global worry over the last two
decades, including one in 2003 with the Severe Acute
Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and another in 2012 with the
Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) (MERS).
COVID-19 can induce flu-like symptoms such as fever and
a dry cough, as well as lethargy, aches, and nasal
congestion. Other symptoms, such as a loss of sense of
smell or taste, have surfaced as the pandemic spreads over
the world; however, they are not clear proof of infection
with the novel coronavirus, and the World Health
Organization is examining this. Anyone can get sick with
COVID-19 and become seriously ill or die at any age. The
COVID-19 pandemic is causing a global challenge not just
in terms of infectious disease, but also in terms of the
serious negative impact it has had on individuals.
3. BODY 2
➢ The physical effect of Covid-19 and how to cope with it up

❖ The worldwide COVID-19 pandemic has forced the

closure of gyms, stadiums, pools, dance and fitness
studios, physiotherapy centers, parks, and playgrounds. As
a result, many people are unable to engage in their normal
solo or group athletic or physical activities outside of their
homes. In such circumstances, many people become less
physically active, have more screen time, have
unpredictable sleep patterns, and eat poor diets, leading to
weight increase and loss of physical fitness. The World
Health Organization (WHO) suggested that individuals
should maintain unchanged or improve healthy lifestyles
(healthy eating, and physical activity to stay healthy
during the pandemic, especially during the lockdown
period. Physical exercise and relaxation techniques can be
useful assets in helping you stay calm and maintain your
health during this time. The World Health Organization
advises 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical
activity per week or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity
physical activity per week or a mix of the two. Many
people may still exercise at home without any equipment
and in a little amount of space. For people who spend a lot
of time sitting at home, there may be ways to be more
active during the day, such as stretching, doing
housework, climbing stairs, or dancing to music which
can help ease your muscles and improve blood circulation
muscle activity. Furthermore, for those with internet
access, there are several free guides on how to keep active
throughout the pandemic. Physical fitness games, for
example, may appeal to individuals of all ages and be
employed in tight quarters. Strength training is another
essential part of maintaining physical fitness that does not
require huge places but helps maintain muscular strength,
which is especially important for elderly people or those
with physical limitations.

4. BODY 3
➢ The psychological effect of Covid-19 and how to cope
with it up
With the new coronavirus infecting the planet, there are many
unknowns about the sickness, which might be devastating. In
general populations, there were reports of discomfort, anxiety,
depression, and sleeplessness. Strong restrictions to prevent
COVID-19 transmission have resulted in isolation,
unemployment, and lack of access to health care, which may
trigger or aggravate the current mental health condition. The
lockdown has led to a major economic slump, instability, and
severe poverty, maybe lead to suicide attempts. Furthermore,
persons with mental diseases are unable to get healthcare
treatments. The consequences might be severe in resource-
constrained nations like ours, where poor economic status is
worsened by insufficient welfare support. In the Philippines
during the early stages of the epidemic, many people expressed
moderate-to-severe anxiety, and moderate-to-severe depression
and psychological effects. It is extremely important to evaluate
the occurrence of negative mental health disorders in a
population and to prevent the psychological dangers and
repercussions. We can all play an important part in preventing
suicide by socially interacting with those who are afflicted and
linking them to mental health services or medical treatment.
You may also comfort them by just telling them that you care
about them and that they are not alone; sympathize with them.
DOH, in collaboration with WHO Philippines, encourages all
Filipinos to get actively involved in the conversation on mental
health. If you or someone you know is suffering sadness, don't
be afraid to talk about it. The first step toward recovery occurs
at home, in a setting that supports open dialogue, and obtaining
medical counsel.

5. CONCLUSION
➢ Summary of the speech

❖ It has been tough for Filipinos to deal with the

consequences of the COVID-19 epidemic and the
quarantine imposed to prevent additional COVID-19
spread. Many individuals have been unable to work or
have lost their employment; others may have had trouble
returning to their home provinces; and still, others may
have been affected by the loss of loved ones or have been
separated from loved ones. This is still a particularly
difficult period since Although safety health protocols
have effectively limited the virus's transmission, they have
resulted in considerable changes in people's lives, such as
working from home and a lack of contact with family and
friends. Lockdown or home confinement tactics make
people feel bored and secluded, which negatively impacts
their psychological health. Furthermore, movement
limitations and limited availability of fresh food during
the lockdown period may substantially impact people's
eating behaviors and comprehensive lifestyle preferences.
Coping with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic is
extremely difficult, particularly for vulnerable persons
with preexisting mental illness and poor socioeconomic
positions. Because mental health issues are considered a
social burden, people may be hesitant to discuss their
thoughts. Stress factors include an increase in the number
of cases and deaths as a result of COVID-19, extended
social isolation as a result of lockdown and social or
physical separation, economic failure, and poor healthcare
access. The interaction of these elements can intensify the
challenges we currently have. As a result, prompt
interventions to improve and safeguard people's mental
health, as well as suicide prevention methods, are
extremely important. It is also important to study the
impacts of COVID-19 confinement on changes in dietary
behavior, physical activity, and mental health, as well as
uncover protective factors that may mitigate such
consequences. The COVID-19 crisis may provide a
chance to strengthen our country's initiatives to solve
physical and psychological health issues, which could
save many lives.
