Mrs. Mills’ 6th Grade Classroom Syllabus 2022-2023

I am so excited that another school year is starting. This is some vital

information you will need to be successful during the coming year in 6th grade.
The most important things will be checking that your student is turning in work on
Aeries, and checking their school email daily!!! Please get signed up for Aeries
now and start checking grades by the second week. I will put assignments on
Google Classroom so that students and parents can check them at home.
Assignments will be turned in, in-person unless otherwise stated on Google
Classroom. Please remember all classroom rules are important. Rules that I remind
students of the most are:
1. No hats/head- coverings (boys and girls).
2. No cell phones out of your backpack
3. No eating in class
4. Water is allowed, students must bring a water bottle that will close completely

English/Writing
Our English/Writing program is called Amplify, and it is completely online.
The Amplify program for sixth grade is broken into 8 units. Each unit is broken
into sub units and finally, daily lessons. Students will be working on vocabulary,
reading, and responding to comprehension questions in a variety of ways: multiple
choice, short answer, paragraph and group response everyday! We will also read
some complete novels with the program.
We will be starting Amplify the week of Monday, August 15, 2022.
Reading
Students will take the Star Test and the I-Ready test to determine reading levels
and be placed in the reading group which is appropriate for their ability. In my
reading class we will be reading grade level novels and have discussions daily.
Students need to read EVERY night for 30 minutes no matter how long we
read in class. AR points will be assigned that are appropriate for each student's
ability level.
History
Sixth grade history (social studies) is fun. We study ancient civilizations and
spend the majority of the time in Egypt, China, Greece and Rome. We will have
many activities and videos. The textbook is available through Clever, and a hard
copy may be obtained by emailing our librarian: sjohnson@basslakesd.org.
If you have questions or concerns please ask me, and if we need more time,
let’s set up a time after school to talk. I am looking forward to the best year
ever.
Thank you,
Mrs. Mills
