(Accept any suitable answer) SECTION D Question 6 (Suggested answer) Of all the school celebrations, my favourite event would be Teachers’ Day. It has been a tradition in my school for the Fifth Formers to organise the event, Our preparations Kicked off months ago before the big day. My class decided to present @ traditional dance. 1 watched in pure fascination as my classmates twirled and spun around gracefully. Soon, I found myself volunteering to be in the.team. { have never tried so hard before. Everyone stared in awe and marvelled at it. Most ‘of my teachers and friends sang praises of my work. I was dumbfounded because I never expected such a wonderful response. Nonetheless, I could not help grinning from ear to ¢ Iwas elated and obviously very pleased with myself. Above all, T was grateful that I could show appreciation for my beloved teachers in my own special way. Question 7 (Suggested answers) ‘The Elephant Man I dislike the ending of the novel The Elephant Man because its main character falls victim to the prejudice ‘and indifferent attitude of society. Joseph Merrick may be “very, very ugly” but he is “a very interesting man. He can read and write, and he thinks a lot.” He enjoys the beauty of nature around him and loves to watch plays. Merrick stil “remembers his mother” although she has abandoned him. He is then paraded around the country by Simon Sileock so that people could gawk at the young man with “elephant” looks for a mere “two pence.” Merrick is a sensitive soul ‘who is unfortunate enough to be born the elephant man. Society, however, is unable to accept him as he is. Its this ‘unkind attitude that drives him to his sad demise ~ Merrick ies trying to sleep like a normal human being. 10 Moby Dick 1 like the ending of the novel Moby Dick because the moral of the story teaches us that vengeance does not pay. This is the case of Captain Ahab who spends “three years” hunting the whale, Moby Dick. The whale had taken his leg and he is now hunting it “to the end of this world.” Finally, after three days, he has an encounter with the “most dangerous animal” in the Pacific Ocean where he lost his leg years ago, In the ensuing battle, Moby Dick out manoeuvres Captain ‘Ahab, a man with “forty years of hard work", and drags ‘him down to his watery grave still entangled in the ropes. I like the ending because it also gives me a sense of justice for Captain Ahab’s men who no longer have to endure the tyrannical ways of their captain. We Didn't Mean to Go to Sea T like the ending of the novel We Didn't Mean to Go to Sea because the Walker siblings find their way home after drifting to Holland and back again. The ending is also exciting because they run into their father unexpectedly in Flushing and together, they sail back to Harwich in the Goblin, John, Susan, Titty and Roger “didn’t mean to go to sea” but thanks to an interesting turn of events, they find themselves drifting on the open sea, The children “love ships and the sea” and the spirit of adventure. Soon, they find themselves embarking on one when they drift past “the Beach End buoy” and head far “out at sea.” When they eventually return to Harwich, they find their mother and Bridget waiting for them. Now who is going to tell her about their adventure? “Daddy’ll tell her that we didn’t ‘mean to go sea,” said Susan confidently to the others.
