FIRM-UP
What are Noncommunicable disease?

The main types of NCD are cardiovascular diseases (such as heart attacks and

stroke), cancers, chronic respiratory diseases (such as chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease and asthma) and diabetes.

Noncommunicable Disease

1. An allergy is an immune system response to a foreign substance that's not

typically harmful to your body. These foreign substances are called allergens.
They can include certain foods, pollen, or pet dander. Your immune system's
job is to keep you healthy by fighting harmful pathogens.
2. Asthma is a condition in which your airways narrow and swell and may
produce extra mucus. This can make breathing difficult and trigger coughing, a
whistling sound (wheezing) when you breathe out and shortness of breath. For
some people, asthma is a minor nuisance.
3. Heart and blood vessel disease (also called heart disease) includes numerous
problems, many of which are related to a process called atherosclerosis.
Atherosclerosis is a condition that develops when a substance called plaque
builds up in the walls of the arteries. This buildup narrows the arteries, making
it harder for blood to flow through. If a blood clot forms, it can block the blood
flow. This can cause a heart attack or stroke.
4. Cancer refers to any one of a large number of diseases characterized by the
development of abnormal cells that divide uncontrollably and have the ability to
infiltrate and destroy normal body tissue. Cancer often has the ability to spread
throughout your body. Cancer is the second-leading cause of death in the
world. But survival rates are improving for many types of cancer, thanks to
improvements in cancer screening, treatment and prevention.

Malignant and Benign Tumor

Malignant tumors have cells that grow uncontrollably and spread locally and/or to
distant sites. Malignant tumors are cancerous (ie, they invade other sites). They
spread to distant sites via the bloodstream or the lymphatic system. This spread is
called metastasis.

Benign tumors are noncancerous growths in the body. Unlike cancerous tumors,

they don't spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body.

Five major categories of cancer, based on their histological characteristics,

are: carcinoma; sarcoma; myeloma; leukemia; and lymphoma. In addition, there are
also some mixed types. The most common sites in which cancer develops include
the skin, lungs, female breasts, prostate, colon and rectum, and uterus.
