alignment which is the main structuring device
of the scheme.

This feature path will a consistent feature of the

landscape and will be continued into various
other areas of the scheme including the Retail,
Residential and Central Park zones.

The feature path rolls in and out of the green

Elements

Kiosks

The canopy elements to the feature path have been developed as a series of
modular panels that will be mounted to standard poles. The panels will be light
weight and open in nature, potentially made from glass reinforced concrete (GRC).
Each panel will be in-filled with a pattern element. This pattern could be influenced
by the option of solar elements within each panel to power the landscape lighting
03 in the park. It is intended that the pattern should cast an interesting shadow
pattern onto the below pavement. A continuous beam will follow the full length of
the feature path and provide lighting to it.

Two solid canopies over the seating areas will provide fuller shade and shelter
for users. These will be constructed of suitable light weight materials such as
aluminium sheets.

Canopies

Canopies in the Central Park are to be permanent fixtures, which add much
needed shade, as well as architectural interest. These highly visible objects for
features to create local identity. Two permanent kisks will have build-in canopies
in order for people to have shade or shelter when they are buying or enjoying
something bought at the kiosk.

Planting Strategy

General principles

As With the Discovery Centre, and the general principles of the planting Tree Planting
strategy for Bhartiya City, native plant species should take priority in
the planting plan as far as possible. This will ensure minimal water
requirements and enhance the biodiversity and ecological value of the
05 site. The planting should aim to showcase the quality of plants native to
the area particularly with the tree species.
Palm Planting

Non-natives will be used for impact planting and colour.

High Level Planting -Type 1
Planting should be implemented with strips of each species forming long
swathes within each zone. This mass planting technique will ensure
maximum impact of colour, texture, and leaf shape. Medium Level Planting -Type 2

Species shown are indicative and represent design intent. Finally species
to be agreed with local designer.
Small Level Planting -Type 3

Feature Planting -Type 4

Proposed Trees

Tree planting will focused on native species, with other commonly found species in
Bangalore being used for colour and flower variety. The trees will create a strong
green edge to the Northern side of the linear park.

The range of species, flower times, colour and heights of the trees will be further
05 enhanced by palm planting that will add further variety particularly in terms of
height and canopy texture.

High Level Planting - Type 1

Acting as the backdrop to the linear park, this zone of planting will screen views
towards the low level parking area of the SEZ and the boundary wall.

They will be typically over 1.2m tall and consist of species that have screening
ability due to density of foliage or large leaf shapes.
05 Some taller shrubs such as Plumeria can be used in gaps in the tree panting to fill
the mid level zone.

Flowering plants are preferred to provide year round interest and colour.

Medium Level Planting - Type 2

The mid level zone of planting will be bold and dramatic in shape, texture and
colour. It will contrast from the high level planting, and be a noticeable swath of
planting typology within the planting area of the park.

Finer shaped leaves and textures will be mixed into this zone, and plants will be
05 clumped in large groups to emphasise flowering displays.

Colours of flowers and leaves should be bold and prominent.

Low Level Planting - Type 3

The lowest level of planting will focus on greenery and texture to contrast the
boldness of the mid level. It will be lower growing / groundcover species, creating
a soft dense zone of planting.

Particularly used around the roundabout to allow strong views to the wall and
05 signage.

Feature Planting - Type 4

Mixed swathes of low maintenance evergreen and deciduous shrubs,

groundcoveres and perennials in the flower beds along the feature path. Mostly
0.3-0.5 m high plants with decorative flowers or leaves.

These add seasonal colour and interest to the feature path journey and provide a
05 green break between the feature path and road edge paving.

Outline Lighting & Wayfinding

Lighting Strategy

The landscape in the linear park will be predominately light by integrated lighting
elements within objects in the landscape as opposed to individual stand alone
columns.

The primary lighting mechanism in the landscape will be from the integrated
06 lighting elements from the feature canopy beam, the curving steel form that
creates a continuous ribbon above the feature path. This integrated lighting
approach will reduce the clutter in the scheme and further highlight the form of the
canopy / ribbon.

Feature lighting to benches, seating steps and water features will offer a highlight
points and spill lighting over areas of the landscape.

Wayfinding Strategy

Wayfinding will be developed based on a three tier system of guidance.

Tier One - Information Boards. Large format information boards

06 showing maps of the city, a users current location and places of
interest. Usually placed at arrival points and major nodes.

Tier Two - Totem Signs. Slender information boards offering simple

graphic guidance and information. Usually placed at points of
decision and major path junctions.

Tier Three - Finger Posts. Most basic level of directional guidance,

predominately word based information. Usually located and minor Tier One - Tier One - Tier Three -
junctions / decision points, or between tier two signage if distances Information Totem Sign Finger Post
are significant. Board
