While avoiding white sugar, white rice and white flour, do eat plenty of whole grain breads and brown rice. As our Stephen Ministers continue to work to bring Your hope and healing to those most in need of it, we ask You to calm the storm and bring peace and tranquility into our care receivers' lives. Consider This Your Invitation

As the "Lay Witness Weekend" (October 14-16) draws near and the planning intensifies , I am reminded of the parable of the Great Banquet in Luke 14:15-24. Many people who were invited for whatever reason (busyness, work, etc.) made excuses not to attend and in doing so missed a great opportunity. I am inviting YOU to the Lay Witness Weekend because you are my church family and I love you and I don't want you to miss this great opportunity. The Lay Witness Weekend is many things to many people, but most of all it's a spiritual retreat with Jesus, the Holy Spirit and His people. It is prayer, wonderful prayer. It is a time of deep fellowship with your church family members. It is renewal, healing and love. It is a time to laugh and cry together. It is a time that I don't want YOU to miss! Plan right now to put this weekend aside for you and your family to attend. The weekend is for individuals and families-- adults, youth and children. Experience it together. Put aside the golf game, work, soccer games, shopping or whatever excuse gets in the way and come to a great spiritual banquet. Make your faith walk with Jesus a priority for this weekend and hold that time aside for this event. Can this weekend change your life? I believe it can, but why don't you ask my wife Sandy? Her husband was saved at a Lay Witness Weekend on November 3, 1983 here at ESUMC. See you in October. Ken Brown

FAITH PROMISE UPDATE

One of our FAITH PROMISE Partners is Monroe County Habitat for Humanity (MCHFH). Leslie Howes, a member of this church, is the Executive Director. This organization works steadily and faithfully to provide affordable housing for those in critical need. The process involves much more than hammer and nails, roofing and doorways. The relationships with contractors, volunteers, families needing affordable housing, supporting community businesses and churches build a community network for "respectful stewardship of all human, economic, and natural resources." MCHFH offers a time to explore the many volunteer opportunities on the last Wednesday of each month from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Office, 912 Main St., Stroudsburg. There are many opportunities besides helping at the work sites. Volunteers are also need on committees to search for property acquisitions, to assess family requests, to help with fundraisers and in raising awareness with churches, synagogues and temples. Volunteers are needed at the office. The number one request on the Wish List of MCHFH is prayer. Through prayers they find answers to many of their constant challenges. The second request is for volunteers. For more information on any aspect of this FAITH PROMISE Partner, you can call 570-476-9846 or a lot of information can be found at www.habitatmc.org. MCHFH has already completed 15 houses for families. Now some have even been rehabilitated homes through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. Your continued support through prayer and funds for our 12 Partners of FAITH PROMISE is witness to how our faith is extended well beyond 83 South Courtland Street, East Stroudsburg, PA. Donations may be made today in the envelope enclosed in the Weekly News, in "Missions" line of regular envelopes, or anytime with a notation for Faith Promise.
