OmniPro - Functions and Applications

Image Viewing
OmniPros interactive image viewer is designed for fast, efficient and simple image review and
film preparation. A series of images is chosen by the user and called up for rapid display in
the viewer window. Several series, containing images from different modalities, can be dis-
played concurrently. Images can be manipulated individually or in user-selected groups.

Viewer Window
A single large image or a matrix comprising multiple images is displayed in the viewer win-
dow. Each indivudual image may be fully windowed with 256 gray levels per image.
The size of the viewer window is user-adjustable and may be expanded to cover the entire
screen. Alternately, the viewer window may be sized down to allow simultaneous display of
several independent viewer windows or applications.

Image Placement
Images may be moved, copied, swapped or deleted from the viewing window. Simultaneous
viewing of the same image with different zoom and window parameters can be achieved by
duplicating images and placing them side-by-side or one above the other.

Zoom and Pan

Zoom and pan are carried out in real time using a mouse, with the entire image constantly dis-
played during manipulations.

Copy Parameters
Zoom and pan factors and the window center and width may be copied from one image to
another or to all the selected images in the window. Furthermore, new images may be dis-
played with the current window and zoom, instead of the window parameters with which they
were recorded.

Scrolling
Images may be scrolled individually, by rows or by pages using the scroll bar.

Cine
Images may be displayed as a cine animation at a user-set rate or via mouse-driven leafing
using the scroll bar.

Invert Images
Images may be inverted left-right and up-down.

Image Parameters
Patient and image information may be displayed for convenient filming.

Window Control
Predefined preset windows and mouse-driven fine adjustment enable fast and convenient set-
ting of optimal window center and width. In addition special windowing functions are avail-
able:

• Highlight window paints in color a user defined range of pixel values.

• Double window simultaneously displays two independent density ranges on the same
image.
• Reverse image reverses the gray levels and displays a negative image.
• Alternate window rapidly switches between any two windows.

Image Graphics
Annotation text and a variety of graphic aids may be individually positioned and manipulated
with the mouse to assist in the interpretation of clinical images. They include:

• Annotation text anywhere on image.

• Regions of interest - circular, rectangular or irregular shape, with instantaneous calcula-
tion and display of area, average pixel value and standard deviation.
• Lines for distance measurements.
• Arrows for pointing to features.
• Angle measurements.

OmniPro - Image Management And Archiving

Images in the OmniPro archive are organized according to the DICOM-3 hierachical model.
Images can reside on local devices such as the workstation fixed disk, on optional removable
EOD (Erasable Optical Disk), or on remote devices connected via LAN (e.g. a CT-Twin or
HeliCAT scanners fixed disk or EOD).

To the user, there is no distinction between images residing on different devices. The images
selected from several devices may be specified as input to applications.
The local disk stores images using lossless compression, effectively doubling the disk capacity.

The following image management tasks are provided:

• Sorting capabilities to facilitate selection and navigation

• Copying images from any storage device to any other DICOM 3.0 device (local, remote or
removable).
• Selectively deleting images from any local device.

OmniPro - Communication And Networking

OmniPro communication is based on the DICOM-3 standard (conformance statement is avail-

able). This enables the OmniPro to communicate with any DICOM-3 compliant product
(including other vendors scanners and workstations). OmniPro can send and retrieve images
from other stations and other stations can retrieve and send images to and from the OmniPro.
The OmniPro can function both as a server and as a client. Images are transferred in the
DICOM-3 protocol based on TCP/IP as transport/network layers and Ethernet as a data-link
layer. OmniPro can be also connected to the Elscint CT LAN. OmniPro can retrieve images
from any CT scanner, OmniView, IDC or GyrexView station up to 60 meters away.

DICOM conformance statement is available.

Filming
Any one image or a series of images may be recorded on film using the AMC option. Auto-
filming of user-selected images and series from any local or remote storing device is available.

OmniPro - Image Processing Functions (Optional)

Multi-Planar Reformatting
Acquired images may be quickly reformatted into any user defined plane (coronal, sagittal,
oblique) or curved planes. Interactive and easy manipulation is provided including plane
thickness, position and orientation, number of displayed planes and spacing between planes.
Other manipulations such as zoom, pan, windowing and leafing through images are also avail-
able. Flexible display formats include multi-planar oblique display (with reference images),
coronal/sagittal display, or single image with reference axial image.

3D Reconstruction
Fast reconstruction of three-dimensional images of up to 15 different tissues or organs pro-
vides easy to understand presentation of complex anatomy.
Real-time manipulation of 3D images includes zoom, pan, rotation around any axis, and cut-
ting of the organs with a user-defined viewing aperture to expose underlying tissues. Selective
tissue cutting enables cutting through selected tissues without affecting other tissues. Making
a tissue transparent enables viewing of underlying organs.

To enhance visuality, contrast and brightness of the tissues as well as the light source place-
ment can be change interactively.
CT/MR values can be displayed on the cutting aperture surfaces, and the 3D image can be cor-
related with the original images.
Special graphic aids are available to enable 3D distance and angle measurements.
To define tissues and organs, rapid and straightforward segmentation tools are available. These
tools range from interactive thresholding level adjustment to sophisticated tools such as seed
planting region growing and advanced morphological methods (erosion, dilation, etc.).

MIP and CT Angiography

Maximum Intensity Projection images, from a volume set of images, can be quickly recon-
structed to demonstrate enhanced vascular structures. The projection images can be interac-
tively generated in any arbitrary viewing angle. The MIP images can be windowed, zoomed
and panned as any ordinary CT image. Minimum Intensity Projection images demonstrate air-
ways.
Easy to use tools for defining a volume of interest for the projection, and to extract unwanted
tissues (e.g. bones) from the projected volume are available. The projection images can be
correlated with the original images.
