The Monk, the firt gothic novel

The Monk is considered the first gothic terror novel, set and written in XVIII century by
Matthew Gregory. The story in described in Madrid, Spain. The novel has several
characters but the main is Ambrosio, a monk who is considered a saint by the people of his
town.
The story begining when Ambrosio is giving a sabbath and there are one women in the
church that found the monk very handsome. The monk meets the woman eventually and he
fell in love with her but she did´nt, she see Ambrosio like a father and like the most closes
to God. The monk becomes very obsessed with her and makes a deal with the devil to have
her, then kidnaps her.
Ambrosio, the monk is an egocentric person who thinks that he can do everything in life
without punishment, and believes that he is truly an envoy of god, he does everything
without thinking about the consecuences of his actions. The monk pretending all the time to
be a good person, even when he has committed terrible acts.
The monk is a novel that represent the human nature, and that when someone wants to do
things well, their nature added to the desire to do things that they have never done, makes
him commit dishonest acts against the established moral rules. Which Is a novel that
constantly changes the plot and keeps your attention, being an unforgettable book.
