Hospital Profile

The King Fahd Armed Forces Hospital is situated in the busy seaport of
Jeddah in the Western Seaboard of the Red Sea. Initially there was only a 76-bed
Armed Forces Hospital in Jeddah. However, to meet the medical needs of the
personnel of all the Armed Forced Installations there, a new and progressive 420-
bed Armed Forces hospital was directed to be built by His Royal Highness Prince
Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, Second Deputy Premier, Minister of Defense and
Aviation and Inspector General. Now, the Hospital has five city-wide satellite clinics
form part of a national network of healthcare facilities directly managed by the
Medical Service Division (MSD) of the Ministry of Defense and Aviation
(MODA). JCI (Joint Commission International) accredited.

One of the primary concerns of the ministry is to provide medical care to all
of the Armed Forces Personnel. Therefore, medical services have been established in
all military locations.

The hospital provides a wide range of primary, secondary, tertiary medical


services to members of the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces and their dependents. The
Cardiac Center, situated within the main Hospital, is the only adult cardiac surgical
facility in the Western Region.

In-service training and education are actively promoted by the Departments


of Medical Education and Nursing Education and from within the individual
departments. The program includes a weekly hospital Grand Round, monthly Nursing
Grand Rounds and regular nursing study days. Inter and intra-departmental activities
include seminars, case presentations and Journal Clubs. The hospital is also a
designated training center for junior medical and nursing staff.

All departments and units, both medical and non-medical, have written
Policies and Procedures to ensure delivery of consistent levels of quality care and
service.

 Assess, plan, implements and evaluates individual patient care.


 Supervises junior and new staff and participates in Orientation and
Developmental Programs.
 Takes charge of the department in the absence of the person
responsible as required or requested.
 Undertakes the role of the Primary Care Provider specific to a defined
patient group.

department/ward.

Through the vision and effort of enterprising and well-meaning incorporate


namely: Capt. Isagani Bautista, Dr. Corazon Bautista, Dr. Josefino Miranda, Arch.
Ramon Kaimo, Dr. Jaime Go, Dr. & Mrs. JosepitoQuintos, Mr. Juanito Mendoza and
Dr. Jimeniano Antonio, Surigao Medical Center was founded in 1972. Built on
strategically located compound, the center was then an eight bed capacity hospital.
At the start, it provided health care services to the people of Surigao City and hereby
communities.

The center had its times of difficulty when in 1987, it experienced decreased
in average census and it could not recruit competent nurses. It was for forced to
down grade its capacity from 80-20 beds. However, true to its resilient character, the
center applied upgrading its capacity from twenty to eighty in 1995. Since then,
Surigao Medical Center has expanded to where and how it is now a reputable health
care provider in CARAGA region not only to communities but to the industrial
establishments as well. It has grown into a medical facility of 100 bed capacity,
manned by highly competent staff and ably complemented by expertise of the top
medical practitioners in the city. The center now is capable of giving emergency care
and providing efficient out-patient and in-patient health and medical services. It has
consistently and continually upgraded its diagnostic, clinical and medical equipment
topped recently by its acquisition of Siemens AcusonSonoline G60s and 4D
Ultrasound System.

Aspiring to lead in providing quality and top of the line health care services,
Surigao Medical Center is now embarking on another expansion adding another
building that will bring the hospital capacity to 200 beds. This center will do, thinking
that, it can enhance further the services it brings to clients and patients in the
region.
